Title: Edward the Second (Dramatized) Subtitle: BBC Radio 3: Drama on 3 Author: Christopher Marlowe Narrator: Toby Jones, Patrick Kennedy, Anastasia Hill Format: Original Recording Length: 1 hr and 58 mins Language: English Release date: 12-06-10 Publisher: BBC Worldwide Limited Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 13 votes Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: A BBC Radio 4 full-cast adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's notorious portrait of a weak king in thrall to his passions, who pays the ultimate price for choosing his heart over his political responsibilities. Originally broadcast 13 September 2009 in the Drama on 3 slot. Edward, preoccupied by the banishment of his lover, Gaveston, barely acknowledges the nascent crises that threaten his realm. Chief among his critics is the morally righteous Mortimer, horrified by the king's criminal lapse of duty and yet able to countenance the further crime of taking arms against his king. As their enmity develops, and Mortimer's political grip tightens, he takes Queen Isabella as a lover, and plots the death of Edward, even after his abdication. Toby Jones stars as Edward, Patrick Kennedy as Mortimer and Anastasia Hille as Queen Isabella. Produced by Jessica Dromgoole.

Plus, she's always in trouble at work - her preschool charges adore her, but the adults don't always appreciate her unusual opinions and forthright manner. Dr. Battista has other problems. After years out in the academic wilderness, he is on the verge of a breakthrough. His research could help millions. There's only one problem: his brilliant young lab assistant, Pyotr, is about to be deported. And without Pyotr... When Dr. Battista cooks up an outrageous plan that will enable Pyotr to stay in the country, he's relying - as usual - on Kate to help him. Kate is furious: this time he's really asking too much. But will she be able to resist the two men's touchingly ludicrous campaign to win her round? Anne Tyler's retelling of The Taming of the Shrew asks whether a thoroughly modern, independent woman like Kate would ever sacrifice herself for a man. The answer is as individual, offbeat and funny as Kate herself.

Holy Shakespeare! Audiobook by Maisie Sparks

https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/54/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Holy Shakespeare! Subtitle: 101 Scriptures That Appear in Shakespeare's Plays, Poems, and Sonnets Author: Maisie Sparks Narrator: Sarah Mollo-Christensen Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 12 mins Language: English Release date: 10-31-16 Publisher: Hachette Audio Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: One hundred and one lines or passages from William Shakespeare's works paired with Scripture passages that appear in the bard's classics. To be published just in time for the Shakespeare 400th celebrations. Shakespeare was heavily influenced by Holy Writ. Bible lines, characters, and narratives are "verbal characters" in his plays, poems, and sonnets, sometimes subtly and sometimes blatantly. But they are there, revealing the deep scriptural well that was the culture from which Shakespeare drew and reminding us of scenes and stories in the Bible. Shakespeare knew the Bible - as did everyone during that time. He used Scripture freely in what he wrote because through such biblical allusions, audiences would immediately grasp his meanings, characterizations, and unfolding situations. His works - meant to be performed - gave Scripture life. The Bible was not mere words in Shakespeare's work but, like all of Scripture, was used for reproof, instruction, conviction, and training. Listening to Shakespeare with an ear that's open to whispers from God's word can kindle passion for both his great literary works and the greatest book of all, Holy Scripture.

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (Adaptation) Audiobook

https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/54/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (Adaptation) Author: William Shakespeare, Joe Bevilacqua - adaptation Narrator: full cast Format: Original Recording Length: 4 hrs and 9 mins Language: English Release date: 07-07-15 Publisher: Joe Bevilacqua, Waterlogg Productions Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: When veteran award-winning radio theater producer Joe Bevilacqua was a student in his final semester at Kean College (now Kean University) in 1982, he designed his own course, in which he produced and directed a radio version of Hamlet. Casting Kean faculty and students, and portraying the melancholy Danish prince himself, Bevilacqua did not simply complete his nearly four-hour radio adaption of Shakespeare's greatest work. He did so while carrying a double major in speech-theater-media-communication and English and while producing, acting in, and sometimes writing radio plays for the WKNJ Radio Theater he founded at the college station. He also portrayed Dr. Martn Dysart in Equus on the Kean Stage and worked 24 hours per week as the assistant manager of Kean's Writing and Math Lab. After graduating summa cum laude, Bevilacqua saw his production of Hamlet picked up and distributed by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) and aired on public radio stations nationwide. Bevilacqua went on to become one of the most prolific radio-drama producers in the United States as well as an on-camera actor in such films as The Fly Room and The Better Angels. He also appeared in television shows, including portraying British General Bernard Montgomery in the History Channel's The Wars and the head of NBC in 1931 for HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle, Claudius. Claudius had murdered his own brother, Hamlet's father, and subsequently seized the throne. He also married his deceased brother's widow, Gertrude.

Title: Women of Will Subtitle: Following the Feminine in Shakespeare's Plays Author: Tina Packer Narrator: Tina Packer, Nigel Gore Format: Unabridged Length: 15 hrs and 12 mins Language: English Release date: 04-07-15 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 23 votes Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: Women of Will, a narrative combining trenchant analysis and riveting scenes, explores the themes of love, loss, freedom, control, violence, and power through the heroines of Shakespeare's text. Drawing on her knowledge as director, actor, and teacher, Packer traces the chronological evolution of Shakespeare's female characters and examines Shakespeare's own journey and growth as a writer from feckless misogynist in his youth to committed lover in his middle years to unrepentant feminist in his final years. Based on her five-part theatrical performance of the same name (currently touring throughout the world), Women of Will combines the knowledge of performance, discussion, and debate with the dramatic tension stemming from the influences Shakespeare responded to in his life and from Packer's desire to show how powerful and distinct the women characters are in his plays. From Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing to Lady Macbeth to Paulina in A Winter's Tale and everyone in between, Women of Will gives a unique and exhilarating perspective on some of the most well-known classical texts in the English language.

Conner Format: Original Recording Length: 12 hrs and 10 mins Language: English Release date: 07-08-13 Publisher: The Great Courses Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 256 votes Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: Shakespeare's works are among the greatest of humanity's cultural expressions and, as such, demand to be experienced and understood. But, simply put, Shakespeare is difficult. His language and culture - those of Elizabethan England - are greatly different from our own, and his poetry, thick with metaphorical imagery and double meanings, can be hard to penetrate. Yet the keys to understanding Shakespeare are written into the plays themselves. If you can learn to recognize the playwright's own clues, you'll become able to engage meaningfully with his language, to follow the plot structures and themes that drive his plays, and to track the development of his characters. Over the course of 24 lectures, this innovative and penetrating exploration of Shakespeare's plays reveals how to enter Shakespeare's dramatic world, how to grasp what's happening in any of his plays, and how to enjoy them fully both on the page and the stage. Under Professor Conner's expert guidance, shaped by decades of studying and performing Shakespeare, you learn more than 40 interpretive tools, drawn from the texts themselves, that give you direct insight into the plays. These guiding principles allow you to follow the narratives of the plays as they unfold, with a clear understanding of how the plays function and fit together. The professor also reveals fascinating details of Shakespeare's era, which shed further light on the plays and the way his contemporary audiences perceived them. This course builds the skills that allow you to reach your own understanding of the plays - to deeply comprehend Shakespeare's transcendent poetic language, the spellbinding world of his great characters and stories, and his revelatory reflections on human experience. Shakespeare's Greatest Hits Retold by Bruce Coville , Volume I Audiobook by Bruce Coville

https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/54/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Shakespeare's Greatest Hits Retold by Bruce Coville , Volume I Author: Bruce Coville Narrator: Bruce Coville, Cynthia Bishop, the Full Cast Family Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 50 mins Language: English Release date: 03-19-04 Publisher: Full Cast Audio Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 15 votes Genres: Classics, Shakespeare Publisher's Summary: There is no finer way to welcome young people (or adults!) to the pleasures of Shakespeare than with these four masterful retellings of the Bard's most beloved plays. Ranging from the pure magic of A Midsummer Night's Dream to the heartbreak of young love in Romeo and Juliet, featuring the spine-tingling tragedy of Macbeth (complete with ghost and witches) and culminating in the laugh-out-loud hijinks of Twelfth Night, this collection features clear, straightforward storytelling combined with the richness of some of Shakespeare's most beloved poetry, all brought to life by over two dozen brilliantly talented actors. ©1996, 1997, 1999, 2003 Bruce Coville; (P)2003 Full Cast Audio Editorial Reviews: These audio adaptations of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Twelfth Night make for worthwhile listening even when they fall short of their mark. The plays are transformed into narratives, but the judicious selection of key scenes and dialogue, combined with the full-cast performance, retains the flavor of the originals. Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet are both exceptionally well cast and played. Parts of Midsummer are overacted, and the voices in the character-packed Twelfth Night fail to distinguish themselves. Even with these weaknesses, this collection provides a nice introduction for children who might encounter one of these plays in a live production or in the classroom.
