Title: The Hidden Author: Kiersten Modglin Narrator: Gail Shalan Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 5 hours 7 minutes Release date: November 5, 2024 Genres: Psychological Publisher's Summary: When Sophie Thatcher wakes up in a room she doesn’t recognize after a night she can’t remember, she assumes she had too much to drink and went home with a date. Except… the date is nowhere to be found. No one is. The space she finds herself in is completely nondescript—the walls bare, fridge empty. And just when she thought things couldn’t get bleaker or more confusing, she realizes the doors are locked from the outside. Trapped inside an unfamiliar place and faced with a clock counting down to a mysterious deadline, Sophie tries desperately to recall the hours missing from her memory and formulate a plan to escape, but each attempt proves more futile than the last. Hidden away from the world and unable to contact the people who would care that she’s missing, Sophie has two questions ringing in her mind: Who would bring her to this place? And why? When she’s joined in her personal prison by someone she never thought she’d see again, everything changes and the idea of her being a random target instantly vanishes. Whoever brought Sophie to this place has plans for her and, if she can’t figure out a way to escape before time runs out, her fate may be to remain hidden forever. Ominous, dark, and completely disturbing, this pulse-pounding thriller from the twisted mind of million-copy bestselling author Kiersten Modglin is unlike anything you’ve read before.

[German] - Fräulein Else:: Eine Novelle von Arthur Schnitzler - Arthur Schnitzler
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/829573 to listen full audiobooks. Title: [German] - Fräulein Else:: Eine Novelle von Arthur Schnitzler Author: Arthur Schnitzler Narrator: Sabrina Worsch Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 3 hours 33 minutes Release date: November 1, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: Fräulein Else: Eine Novelle von Arthur Schnitzler, gelesen von Sabrina Worsch. © Metropolitan Museum of Art.

When Kim’s husband, Eddie, books a property tour of a home Kim has been eyeing online, it’s love at first sight. Far too expensive for them to afford, Kim and Eddie make an offer anyway...and score the deal of a lifetime. The house is suddenly theirs, and Kim sees it as destiny. She must tell the whole story before arriving at the girl’s death. Estela came from the countryside, leaving her mother behind, to work for the señor and señora when their only child was born. They wanted a housemaid: “smart appearance, full time,” their ad said. She wanted to make enough money to support her mother and return home. For seven years, Estela cleaned their laundry, wiped their floors, made their meals, kept their secrets, witnessed their fights and frictions, raised their daughter. She heard the rats scrabbling in the ceiling, saw the looks the señor gave the señora; she knew about the poison in the cabinet, the gun, the daughter’s rebellion as she grew up, the mother’s coldness, the father’s distance. She saw it all. After a series of shocking betrayals and revelations, Estela stops speaking, breaking her silence only now, to tell the story of how it all fell apart.

Everything is going to be perfect. Greyson comes home from deployment to live the life she and her husband Caden dreamed of. He has a surgical residency, and she has a psychiatric practice in the basement of their Manhattan brownstone. Caden loves his wife more than he can measure. But he starts hearing whispers. Someone else loves her. Someone else wants her. There's someone else, and though whoever's behind the whispers will move mountains to have her, Caden will move heaven and earth to keep her. Greyson will never break her vows, even as their marriage snaps apart one piece at a time; even as the line between reverie and reality blurs; even as Caden demands control, and Greyson cedes it. She will never, ever turn her back on him. When their marriage crumbles, her resolve shakes and love becomes the one thing holding them together.

I promised you a bed of rose petals. He grabbed my hand under the table, tightening his grip as if he were falling from a precipice and our connection was the only thing saving him from certain death. They were beautiful. You smell like apples. Roses were wrong. There was nothing soft about his tone, but his quiet words were for me alone. I want everything to be right for you. Caden, look at me. I caught his gaze and held it. He was confident. Arrogant. Sure he had a place in the world. And under that was the man who needed me to be that place. If I could… He smiled and shook his head at a silly thought he wanted to dismiss but couldn't - a contradiction in keeping with the whole man I married. If I could write my love in the sky, it wouldn't be big enough. I'd run out of room. I'd fall out of the air trying to say it all. He was saying it all. Every day. And he was falling out of the sky to do it. The Edge series:

Dani Lang is a “quester,” as Rhoda calls her most avid followers. Dani found Radical at a low point in her life, and took an entry level job just to get in the door. When she volunteers to test a controversial new supplement, Dani wins an opportunity to rise in the company, even to work with Rhoda herself. Cecelia Cole is a “quasher.” She grinds away at the Customer Worship queue, resenting the entitled customers, the woo-woo Radical jargon, and Rhoda’s smiling hypocrisy. Just as Rhoda announces another fundraising round that could turn Radical into a billion-dollar unicorn, an anonymous Twitter account begins spilling snarky gossip from inside the startup. Is Rhoda really the nurturing leader she presents to the world, or a fraud? Or is this just another case of a woman in business being punished for her strength and audacity? Tensions rise and loyalties clash, then tragedy strikes during a company party. In the aftermath of what looks more and more like a crime, even the most faithful questers begin to wonder to what lengths Rhoda will go to protect her company. Elaine by Will Self

Title: Elaine Author: Will Self Narrator: Laurel Lefkow Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 9 hours 17 minutes Release date: September 17, 2024 Genres: Contemporary Women Publisher's Summary: The Booker-shortlisted author of Umbrella writes his most American novel yet—a brilliant portrait of a 1950s housewife, based on the life of the author’s mother, and an exploration of sexual freedom and sublimated desireWILL SELF is one of the most inimitable contemporary writers in the English language, dubbed “the most daring and delightful novelist of his generation” by The Guardian. In this brilliantly conceived new novel Self turns his forensic eye and technicolor imagination to the troubled life of his mother, Elaine. Standing by the mailbox outside 1100 Hemlock Street in Ithaca, New York, Elaine thinks of her husband and child inside her house and wonders: is this … it? As she begins to push back against the strictures of her life in 1950s America, she undertakes a disastrous affair that places her marriage to an Ivy League academic and former Communist Party member in peril. Based on the intimate diaries Self’s mother kept for over forty years, Elaine is a writer’s attempt to reach the almost unimaginable realm: a parent’s interior life prior to his own existence. Perhaps the first work of auto-oedipal fiction, Elaine shows Will Self working in an exciting new dimension, employing his stylistic talents to tremendous effect.

In 1898, he joined the esoteric Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and was trained in ceremonial magic before studying both Hindu and Buddhist practices in India. On his Egyptian honeymoon in 1904 he claimed contact with an entity―Aiwass―who gave him the sacred Book of the Law which served as the basis for the Thelema religion where he identified as its prophet. During the Great War, which he spent in the United States, he claimed to be working for British Intelligence but by the 1920s he had decamped to pursue a libertine lifestyle in Sicily, and in the ensuing scandals was evicted by the Italian Government. He divided the following two decades between France, Germany, and England, and the continuing promotion of Thelema.During his life he gained widespread notoriety for his drug use, his bisexuality, and his alarming views on society. In short, polite society frowned on his ways, his thoughts and his influence but to many others his stance had much of value. Even after death he was a darling for the 60’s counterculture but his influence has since waned. His literary works were both prolific and covered many topics. In the early part of his career he published many poetry books, even plays, before his darker and more forceful works came to dominate his output.Aleister Crowley died on 1st December 1947 at Hastings in England. He was 72.

Title: The Lagoon Author: Joseph Conrad Narrator: Richard Mitchley Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 36 minutes Release date: September 9, 2024 Genres: Suspense Publisher's Summary: Joseph Conrad was born on 3rd December 1857 in Berdychiv in the Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire. His birthplace had been part of Poland which its neighbours dismembered into their own Empires.Conrad’s early years were spent in constant movement, his father was politically active and frequently in trouble trying to help re-ignite a Polish state which meant arrests and exile and the young Conrad himself suffered from ill-health, spending a year at a retreat in Kyiv recovering. By 11 he was orphaned. His education was mainly private and although he was a voracious reader, he was a poor academic student. Now, being raised by an uncle who wanted Conrad to have a worthwhile job, it was hoped that a merchant-marine career might bring out the best of him.At 16 he was sent to Marseille to embark on that adventure. Conrad himself was determined to be both a sailor and a great writer.Life on board a ship was full of adventures and experiences which included gun-running and close quarter encounters with political conspiracies.By his mid 30’s Conrad had returned to shore permanently to add his prodigious literary talents to full time writing. Although he wrote with a comprehensive command in English his spoken English was often cited as ‘horrible’. He was now also a British Citizen. Conrad brought to English Literature both narrative mastery, compelling prose and fully formed characters as well as a deeper examination of the human psyche in a wealth of work. He wrote many novels, short stories, nonfiction, and memoirs which are rightly regarded today as some of the finest in English literature. Jospeh Conrad died on the 3rd August 1924 at Bishopsbourne, Kent in England. He was 66.

Creation Lake: A Novel by Rachel Kushner

Title: Creation Lake: A Novel Author: Rachel Kushner Narrator: Rachel Kushner Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 11 hours 10 minutes Release date: September 3, 2024 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 2.92 of Total 13 Ratings of Narrator: 2 of Total 3 Genres: Psychological Publisher's Summary: 2024 AUDIOFILE MAGAZINE EARPHONES AWARD WINNER! *SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2024 BOOKER PRIZE* *LONGLISTED FOR THE 2024 NATIONAL BOOK AWARD* *AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER* From Booker Prize finalist and two-time National Book Award finalist Rachel Kushner, a “vital” (The Washington Post) and “wickedly entertaining” (The Guardian) novel about a seductive and cunning American woman who infiltrates an anarchist collective in France—a propulsive page-turner filled with dark humor. A thirty-four-year-old American woman—a secret agent—is sent to do dirty work in France. “Sadie Smith” is how the narrator introduces herself to her lover, to the rural commune of French subversives on whom she is keeping tabs, and to the reader. Sadie has met her love, Lucien, a young and well-born Parisian, by “cold bump”—making him believe the encounter was accidental. Like everyone Sadie targets, Lucien is useful to her and used by her. Sadie operates by strategy and dissimulation, based on what her “contacts”—shadowy figures in business and government—instruct. First, these contacts want her to incite provocation. Then they want more. In this region of centuries-old farms and ancient caves, Sadie becomes entranced by a mysterious figure named Bruno Lacombe, a mentor to the young activists who communicates only by email. Bruno believes that the path to emancipation from what ails modern life is not revolt, but a return to the ancient past. Just as Sadie is certain she’s the seductress and puppet master of those she surveils, Bruno Lacombe is seducing her with his ingenious counter-histories, his artful laments, his own tragic story. Written in short, vaulting sections, Rachel Kushner’s rendition of “noir” is taut and dazzling. Creation Lake is Kushner’s finest achievement yet as a novelist, a work of high art, high comedy, and unforgettable pleasure.

Leuchter, the garage tinkerer turned execution authority who became a darling of the neo-Nazi movement, and subject of the Errol Morris documentary, Mr. Death. He comes to fix your photocopier, but really, Fred’s an inventor. At night, he goes to work. He has goals, ambitions, and when offered the task of building a better electric chair, he jumps at the chance. People have to die—he believes in the occasional necessity of evil—but what if we could kill them more humanely? A death specialist, first in his field but forever under-appreciated, he’s charmed when a new generation of fascists come calling for his expertise. A Holocaust denier is on trial in Toronto—could Fred prove the gas chambers never existed? Newspapers descend. Talking heads have their say. A documentarist makes a film. Everyone will know his name, though some things society will simply not abide. Dishonoured, discredited, disgraced. But Fred’s work does not stop, and the world may yet be reminded of the dangerous truth that some men are driven by forces far more powerful than shame. First published in 2013, this is the updated and definitive edition of Eugene Marten’s chilling masterwork of transformational historical fiction.
