The Choice is Yours on Winging It with Dr. David Nilsson

Now, more than ever before, the patient is not just the recipient of healthcare, but MUST accept a share of the responsibility in the partnership with the physician by actively participating in the process! The passive patient accepts status quo, accepts what they are “given”, and lives with it!  The consequence?  We have become the most obese nation in the world, we are dying an average of 8 years younger than we did ten years ago, the quality of our healthcare is the lowest of other industrialized nations. The health status of the “average” American is embarrassing!   The active patient must participate in the process of healthcare, doing their part to optimize personal quality of health!  This is PARTICULARLY true for patients presenting with history of acquired brain injury, or other neurological diseases and disorders. The brain regulations everything the body does, including our immune system, and all functional capacity!  Only with optimal nutrition, good health behavior, and accepting personal responsibility can your body achieve optimal recovery, maintain levels of performance, and good health, facilitating your personal goals and goals for your relationships, spouse, family, employment, etc.The choice is yours to make! Host David E. Nilsson Ph.D. ABPP/CN: A board certified Clinical Neuropsychologist having practiced more than 35 years, focusing his clinical practice on infants/toddlers, children, and adolescents. Roughly a year ago, Dr. Nilsson sustained a brain injury, as a result of complications from surgery for a torn rotator cuff. Initially the brain injury was not obvious, but he presented with a constellation of predictable (and some less predictable) neurocognitive/neurobehavioral consequences of his injury. As a result, he has not been able to return to his practice.

Good Brain Food - With Dr. Nilsson

Good Brain Food hosted by Dr Nilsson Tragically, our culture becomes more obsessed with "packaging" rather than what is inside the package! We have the technology to make it "look good", but we are too lazy to search, understand, and grow beyond that! Does the "standard of beauty" come from the outside, or the inside! I believe the answer is so obvious as to be embarrassing to the observer! The reality, real beauty is only skin deep, and we must nourish it and make it grow! Not what fantasies are built upon!

Dr. Wing It Show - Hosted by David E. Nilsson Ph.D. ABPP/CN

David E. Nilsson Ph.D. ABPP/CN    is a board certified Clinical Neuropsychologist, having offices in Salt Lake City, Utah, and in Boise, Idaho, where he currently resides. His practice has included the developmental/neurodevelopmental spectrum, infancy to adults, providing clinical neuropsychological diagnostic testing,  developmental/neurodevelopmental monitoring and clinical support. His office staff has included a diverse therapy staff - speech language pathology, occupational therapy, academic, teachers, and others.  Parent and teacher education, with optimal clinical support is critical to facilitating optimal neurodevelopmental outcome!    Particularly critical in evaluating and treating patients sustaining acquired brain injury, is the recognition that "all brain injuries are not equal!"  Having followed many children, some from as early as birth, the developmental/ neurodevelopmental consequences of brain injury become apparent with developmental progression over time.  Tragically, they are often diagnosed as presenting with a "psychiatric" or "behavioral" (e.g., anxiety, ADHD, impulse control disorder, etc.).  The most common symptoms observed subsequent to any brain injury is that of disruption of age appropriate self-regulation of behavior!   Many patients, child, adolescent, and adult, frequently do not receive optimal early intervention, ongoing monitoring or therapy support,    "Understanding the Logic" of the presentation of symptoms of the individual patient is critical to optimal intervention and outcome for the individual patient!   David E. Nilsson Ph.D. ABPP/'CN
