Earth Ciphers

Earth Ciphers is a double entendre and an earthly exploration. Ciphers, as in a secret code, as in the earth is full of codes waiting to be unlocked, looked at and implemented for living a more joy-filled, juicy and loving life, and also ciphers as in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) for a rap battle as in conversations… Earth Ciphers is where science, spirituality and culture come together to make sense of this wonderful thing we call life on planet earth and ultimately to up-level ourselves to being a species that contributes more to global joy, love and life.

    Embracing Transformation: Lessons from 2024

In this final episode of the season, I’m reflecting on my journey through 2024—sharing the challenges I’ve faced, the lessons I’ve learned, and how leaning into authenticity and self-ownership has been a game-changer. I’ll close out the Triangle of Transformation, a framework that’s been guiding me. It’s about committing to your values, embodying daily practices, composting the messy experiences, and weaving all of it into your life in a meaningful way. I’m opening up about my own experiences with burnout—how it cracked me open to better understand myself and my needs. My hope is to inspire you to embrace your own path of transformation and growth, one step at a time. Takeaways:  Authenticity in relationships fosters deeper connections. Asking for help is essential for personal growth. Human beings are designed for connection and co-regulation. Inner peace is a lifelong journey worth pursuing. Visualizing your higher self can guide your actions. Creativity is linked to vitality and life force. Challenges can be reframed as opportunities for curiosity. Self-regulation is crucial for emotional well-being. Being true to oneself benefits not just the individual but also others. Earth Mother Sylvia discusses embodiment as a pathway to increasing your capacity to make change in yourself and your communities.

    DEVOTION for self-sustainability

In this episode, Earth Mother Sylvia speaks on devotion for finding authentic self-sustainability. Sometimes people think self-sustainability is about individualism, but it's actually about making yourself a more sovereign person, and better able to connect authentically and sustainably with other people. DEVOTION is for everyone. You don’t have to agree on how to name “God” in order to be committed to something bigger than yourself. In fact, identifying your values and devoting yourself to them is a great place to start - no religion necessary.Shout out Adera Gandy @shewhogiveslife for the definition of devotion used in this episode, and to the Queen Debrena Jackson-Gandy @thedebrena for her teachings on prayer and meditation for devotion. This episode is dedicated to the invaluable, irreplaceable, and INFINITE DR. MAXINE MIMMS, founder of the Evergreen College Tacoma, prayer warrior, mentor, big-hat-wearer, and all around community icon. May she rest in everlasting power. ✊🏽🫶🏽This episode, and every episode, edited by thee Kate Berezo, host of @thementorswhomadeus pod.

    (R)EVOLUTION IS FOR EVERYONE

(R)evolution is the fourth, and final pillar of the Has Everything Universe. Your host and Earth Mother, Sylvia, posits that we are absolutely capable of disrupting and divesting from the current systems of burn out at the individual, relationship, community and societal levels, while investing in systems of sustainability, creativity, and life. She argues that this revolutionary process requires our sociocultural evolution as a species - something we have evidence of human participation with since the beginning of our species on Planet Earth. In this episode, Sylvia mentions Dr. Bruce Perry, a neuroscientist responsible for developing the Three R's Model: Regulate, Relate, Reason. She erroneously credits him for Dr. Dan Siegel's "Brain in the Palm" method of understanding what's happening in our brains when we get stressed or overwhelmed. This turns out to be a very happy mistake because now you, listener, get to be introduced to both incredible scientists. You're welcome. :) Dr. Bruce Perry is also the co-author alongside Oprah Winfrey of What Happened To You: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience and Healing, in which Dr. Perry discusses sociocultural evolution. Yoga for Sovereignty

In this episode, your host and Earth Mother, Sylvia, shares her story of how yoga and meditation found her as a teenager, and helped her create space to develop agency and choice in a chaotic and traumatic world. Yoga is the third pillar of the Has Everything Universe. This, and every episode, edited by Kate Berezo, host of the Mentors Who Made Us Podcast.

    Hip-Hop is Tradition + Futurism

In this episode, host and Earth Mother, Sylvia, discusses both the traditional and futuristic nature of the art of hip-hop. This episode explores the second foundational pillar of the Has Everything Universe: Afrofuturism. A term coined by Mark Dery in the 1990's, afrofuturism is the exploration of possible futures through the lens of the American African diasporic peoples. Ytasha L. Womack, writer of Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci-Fi and Fantasy Culture, defines it as "an intersection of imagination, technology, the future and liberation". She also follows up with a quote by the curator Ingrid LaFleur who defines it as "a way of imagining possible futures through a black cultural lens". Earth Ciphers is edited by Kate Berezo, host of the Mentors Who Made Us podcast.

    Introducing Earth Ciphers

Welcome to Earth Ciphers, the podcast where your host and Earth Mother, Sylvia, explores the way science and spirituality come together on this beautiful planet we call home. Earth Ciphers exists at the intersection of sensation and culture - it is deeply devoted to the Planet Earth, and is also a cipher. A cipher, as in an exploration of the nitty gritty codes and wonderful mysteries of this planet, and a cipher as in a rap battle - the place where people come together to talk and learn.
