THE FRAIL
Messing around in the GrooveBox app and decided to rework this classic masterpiece from Trent Reznor. I know the original track is amazing and doesn’t need to be altered but there is something so much fun about playing around with a song that I have loved and know backwards and forwards. I ended up finding a really wild drum progression because of my Messing around. I had initially pushed the tempo WAY UP and made the song faster but slowing it down again allowed me to hear the drum track much better and paired with a few other drum tracks and delay effects you get what is heard at the end of the track. I’m going to use it somewhere else I can already tell. Original track is from Nine Inch Nails. For such a simple key progression this as always stuck with me. The build up that leads into the following track on The Fragile album never gets old. First time I heard this song I had to sit down with a keyboard and learn how to play it. I listened to the track until I figured it out by ear. Now whenever I see a piano or keyboard out in the wild I instinctually play this first.

New Kind of Hell
Recorded some time ago when I was living out of Denver. My room mate had moved out and I had an empty apartment to myself. I used the solitude to create a ton of music. Nearly day and night I was creating sounds through the GrooveBox app. Melodie’s, synth riffs, strange drum tracks, bass riffs and jams. I was obsessed with it. This track came from that time period. I was experimenting with vocals for the first time. Im not sure if I would even classify it as “singing” but rather emotionally speaking. You can only push the limits of a headphone mic so far as I was still using the microphone attached to my beats headphones. Personally these might be some of the best vocal captures from those headphones. I found that if I recorded two or three takes of a set of lyrics then layered them on top of each other I could achieve something that sounded somewhat okay. Or by setting one vocal take on the left side in the track and another on the right they would give a fuller feel. I had a ton of lyrical arrangements and ideas that flowed out of my head around this time too. I filled my bedroom walls with endless amounts of handwritten pages of lyrics. Lyrics: I know it’s so hard to try When we’ve been bled And left to dry But deep inside I’ve pushed and shoved But the pains is pulled out It sits high above A feeling it builds Deep within No turning back No giving In So walk with me Into the night And I promise you That we’ll find the strength to fight Like a hope that never was Or filthy kind of dirty love You can’t wash away the smell The sweat of sex my new kind of hell

A Hope That Never Was
Recorded this a couple years ago. Had no real “recording equipment “ at the time. Wrote the music on the app GroveBox by Novation, Imported into Launchpad and recorded a live run through of the track. Had to use the mic on my over the ear Beats headphones. Vocals are REALLY tough on a small mic like that but it is possible to get something that sounds not terrible. You have to get creative sometimes.
