 **The Story of the Loretto Chapel Staircase**   The Loretto Chapel, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is famous for its remarkable spiral staircase. This staircase is renowned for its unique design and mysterious origins.    Built in 1878, the staircase has no visible means of support, which baffles engineers and architects to this day. It features two complete turns and rises 20 feet to the choir loft. The staircase is entirely constructed of wood, with no nails; only wooden pegs hold it together.   According to legend, the chapel's nuns prayed for a solution to their need for a staircase when the original builder was unable to include one in his plans.
