Engage the Word With Elizabeth Rodríguez

God wrote the greatest book of all time—the Bible. Its pages contain the epic story of His provision for the reconciliation and redemption of humanity in and through Jesus Christ. Have you read it? Have you studied it? Whether you have or you haven’t, my prayer is that this podcast will equip and encourage you to do both (and so much more). Let's pursue God and engage His Word together—because He is the prize!

    (E30) Powerful Literary Devices: Simile

Have you ever seen a video (or a photograph) that made an illustration in the Bible come alive? This week, I share how a BBC video of an Alpine Ibex brought a simile from Psalm 18 (and Habakkuk 3) to life. A simile is a powerful literary tool that turns abstract concepts into concrete illustrations through comparison. The Bible is filled with them, because they communicate with a rich vividness that literal language cannot.

Has the message of the gospel become commonplace to you? Have you lost the sense of wonder and amazement at the grace of God in Christ? When you read a passage of Scripture, hear a Christ-exalting sermon, or sing a worship song that describes who Jesus is and what He has done, does it warm your heart and stir your affection for Him anew? May what you learn from Jeremiah 32 stoke your affection for Christ today. (E24) One Thing Is Necessary

Are you spending time sitting at the Lord's feet listening to His teaching? Did your plans to read, study, or memorize God's Word fizzle out? God willing, this week's episode will encourage you to press on and spend time engaging the Word alone.

  9. 23

    (E23) Extravagant Grace

We can pursue God only because He loves and pursues us first. Though human fathers ought to reflect our perfect, loving Heavenly Father, many do not. Even those who do cannot reflect Him perfectly. As we look at Luke 15, I pray that the extravagant grace of God the Father will encourage you.

  10. 22

    (E22) God's Words About Himself

We study the Bible to grow in our love for God as we learn about who He is and what He has done—according to His own words. Because the Bible is a book written by God about God, the most important question we should ask and answer when we read or study is, "What do I learn about Him?"

  11. 21

    (E21) Four Big Questions

Inductive Bible study is investigative Bible study. Like a scuba diver exploring the wonders of the ocean, inductive Bible study equips us to dive deep into the text of Scripture to explore the wonders of our God—that we might grow in our love for Him.

  12. 20

(E20) A Conversation With Cathy Upton

It was such a blessing to sit down with my friend and dear sister in Christ, Cathy Upton. We've walked a similar path of learning and growth in Christ over the last 8 years. Cathy and I even served in ministry together. We praise God for His love and pray that our conversation will both glorify Him and encourage you to pursue Christ by engaging His Word.

  13. 19

    (E19) Commemorate God's Grace

God works wonders in our lives, but we so often miss His handiwork. What if we took time to reflect upon His sovereign grace? What if we found a tangible way to remember? I pray that today's episode will encourage you to commemorate His grace in your life and share what He's done with your loved ones.

  14. 18

    (E18) Bless God

Have you ever wondered what it means to "bless God"? Let's see what Scripture has to say about this worshipful response to who God is and what He has done for us in Jesus Christ. I'll also challenge you to consider what matters more: the blessings or the Blesser?

  15. 17

    (E17) Be Strong and Courageous

I love how familiar passages can fall on us afresh. Today, I'm sharing a passage that encouraged me this week. If you are struggling with fear of any kind, I pray that this encourages you, too.

  16. 16

    (E16) Scripture Memorization

Memorizing Scripture may not be your favorite topic, but the value cannot be overstated. Scripture memorization solidifies the truth of God's Word in our mind, sanctifies, and satisfies the longings of our heart. Just do it! “9 How can a … person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.12 Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” (Psalm 119:9-16)

  17. 15

(E15) A Conversation With Claudine Snyder

It is a joy to share this conversation with someone who has had a profound impact on my life as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ: Claudine Snyder. I've grown in Christ alongside her for eight years, and praise God for all that she’s taught me. In this episode, we get to discuss everything from her walk with the Lord, and the impact engaging the Word of God has had on her life, to the blessings and challenges of ministry. God willing, our conversation will glorify the Lord and encourage you to pursue Christ by engaging His Word.

  18. 14

    (E14) Restorative Words

"The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul." (Psalm 19:7) God's Word is a balm for the soul. Though this wasn't what I planned to share for Episode 14, it is what God planned. May it be an encouragement to you today.

  19. 13

(E13) A Conversation With Frank Moreno [Part 2]

This is the second part of my conversation with Frank Moreno (my dad). In this episode, he shares some of his favorite passages of Scripture and explains the life-changing impact of engaging the Word. We pray that our conversation will glorify God and encourage you to engage the Word and pursue Christ.

  20. 12

(E12) A Conversation With Frank Moreno [Part 1]

This is the first of a special two-part conversation with my dad, Frank Moreno. In this episode, he shares transparently about his life (before and after coming to faith in Christ) and how he began to engage the Word. We pray that our conversation will glorify God and encourage you to engage His Word, too.

  21. 11

    (E11) Walking Through Hard Things

In this episode, I share one example of how engaging the Word has impacted the way in which I walk through hard things.

  22. 10

(E10) A Conversation With Anne King

Anne King is a dear sister in Christ. She joins me to discuss her walk with the Lord Jesus, her passion for biblical counseling, and what engaging the Word of God looked like at different ages and stages of her life. We pray that our conversation will glorify God and encourage you to pursue Him and engage His Word.

  23. 9

    (E9) Praying Scripture: Psalms

Nothing has impacted my prayer life more than learning to pray the Word of God. Today's episode is the first in a monthly series that will equip and encourage you to pray Scripture.

  24. 8

    (E8) God Works for Good

Have you ever experienced a situation or a season in your life that did not make sense? Have you ever wondered how difficult circumstances could result in your good and God's glory? God is working, and His purpose is good!

  25. 7

    (E7) When God Calls, Answer!

Going when God calls is easier said than done. Often, when the Lord calls us to step out in faith and follow Him, He doesn’t tell us where we are going or how we are going to get there. But, God’s people walk by faith, not by sight. Not seeing, we see! We keep our eyes fixed upon Him and His promises. He will never fail! So... GO!

  26. 6

    (E6) One Story

Together, the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament tell ONE story. It's the greatest story ever told. This episode includes an easy way to remember the grand narrative of Scripture.

  27. 5

    (E4) Prayer is a Privilege

No matter where we are, and no matter what we are doing, God wants us to talk to Him throughout our day. Yet, instead of “praying at all times in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18), we often neglect our relationship with God—setting aside His love, power, and grace. What is the key to remembering this matchless privilege? Treasuring the One who gave His life to provide it.

  28. 4

    (E3) God Shapes Our Affections

What does your heart cling to? What brings you the greatest pleasure? What do you delight in? Creation cannot stoke the flames of your heart more than the Creator of all things. In Christ, through the power of His Spirit, He can awaken affections within us that we can’t even begin to fathom! In this episode, I share the story of how God began to shape my affections.

  29. 3

    (E2) Read With Purpose

What does it mean to meditate on God's Word? Whether you are a seasoned Bible reader or you have never opened the Word of God, I hope to equip and encourage you to read the Bible with purpose.

  30. 2

    (E1) Who? What? Why? How?

My goal in this introductory episode is to answer four questions: 1.) Who is Elizabeth Rodríguez? 2.) What is this podcast about? 3.) Why did I name this podcast “Engage the Word”? 4.) How will we pursue God through His Word?

  31. 1

(E5) A Conversation With Julia Siegwart

My dear friend and sister in Christ, Julia Siegwart, joins me to discuss what engaging the Word looks like in her life. Julia is a wife, a homeschool mom, and a follower of Christ who has served in various roles over the years. We pray that our conversation will glorify God and encourage you to pursue Him through His Word.
