Everything Is Cinema: A Film Podcast

This episode we consider the Oscars, discussing how they shape the kind of films that get made, as well as the actors, directors, and studios who get to make them. We share our mixed feelings on the awards show, as both an out of touch relic and an event that still influences the film industry. We also rank this year's Best Picture nominees from worst to best, sharing our feelings on each film, as well as picking the film we would like to see win the top prize.

We go over our favourite films of 2025, recounting the films that have impressed us most. From grand blockbusters, like Sinners and One Battle After Another, to acclaimed international films, like It Was Just an Accident and I'm Still Here, we cover a broad range of films that represent the diversity and excellence film had to offer in 2025.

This episode looks at what happens when director partnerships go there separate ways. Particular attention is given to the solo ventures of the Coen Brothers and Safdies, and what these solo films tell us about their creative partnerships.   My experiences with the Criterion Collection is also covered, with discussions of its importance as a curator of film history and its influence on me as a film fan.
