Two sisters -- one a historian, the other a cinephile -- talk about films and shows that take us to another time, and another place.

EP17 | And the World Was All Around Us (Outlander S8 EP10)

The end has finally arrived! Michelle and Robin break down the Series Finale of Outlander, and share their thoughts on this epic eight season experience. Along the way they discuss alternative endings, the vibrating frequency of linen, and the history of purgatory! Strap in, this one is a fun romp.

  2. 16

    EP16 | Pharos (Outlander S8 E9)

Diana G. herself wrote this one, the penultimate episode of Outlander! She has only written a few episodes throughout the whole series, so hopes were high that this would be a dialed hour of TV. Robin and Michelle discuss why they thought it worked in this episode of the pod. They also go on some epic history side-quests early on, so grab a dram and dust off your history-brain, Time Travelers, we're diving right in. Can you change the outcome of history by impacting key individuals? Tune it for Robin as she opines!Fear not, we circle it back to the sexual tension between Jamie and John–it could fuel a trip to the moon!Enjoy this episode of the podcast, and hey, while you are at it–please honor us with a rating and a review on your listening app of choice? The algorithm is starving for some attention. Much appreciated!

    EP15 | Peaky Blinders—The Immortal Man

Robin and Michelle discuss the much anticipated Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man. This movie brings the first chapter of the Peaky Blinders saga to a close, so there is much to discuss!Robin's Peaky Blinders montage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_ockJWex0

  4. 14

    E14 | In the Forest (Outlander S8E8)

This was Season 8's Golden Episode, and it sure lived up to that title! Written by show creator Ronald D. Moore, this Ridge-focused episode had humor, hugs, montages (naturally) and lots of great scenes with Jamie. The acting in this episode stood out, but so did an apparent cameo with historical figure Johnathon Edwards, a looming Presbyterian minister of the period. And maybe one day soon we'll get to discuss Outlander without bringing up dead babies...but, not today! Because our episode includes a discussion of death by suicide being viewed as sin and the real consequences that has led to. Including a tragic phenomenon called "Suicide by Proxy." But this episode of the pod is 90% cheery because it really is a heartwarming Outlander episode. Enjoy!

E13 | Evidence of Things Not Seen (Outlander S8 E7)

OUR SPOILER-FREE EPISODE BRIEF: For such a dark and twisty episode of Outlander, Robin and Michelle had a lot of fun dissecting this one. We get existential and cover big questions like, "When does a relationship with a fictional character cross the line?" and "What does a show creator owe its fan base?" and "What is up with the Outlander fan base?!" Bonus Bibles, sexy knees, and some of the best acting Outlander has ever seen are also covered. Join us in not taking ourselves—or Outlander—too seriously. The podcast episode is nothing but spoilers. Proceed as you wish.

  6. 12

    E12 | Blessed are the Merciful (Outlander S8 E6)

5-4-3-2-1....the countdown to the series finale of Outlander is here! There are only 4 episodes left, and this 6th installment of the final season left us hungry for more. Not all was perfect–Michelle has beef with the fake (AI?) baby, and Robin has beef with Cousin Ben's swarmy attitude. But they both applaud Rachel and of course, Rollo's adorable fluffy grandson. This episode of Outlander also gets points for mentioning Thomas Paine, the very best of the founding fathers. BONUS MATERIAL:As promised, here is some ad hoc information about Thomas Paine: "Reading Paine from Left to Right" by SEAN MONAHAN https://jacobin.com/2015/03/thomas-paine-american-revolution-common-sense/Dick Gaughan sings about the revolutionary 18th century thinker and propagandist Thomas Paine. EP11 | Peaky Blinders, S1-S6

Robin and Michelle discuss the epic British TV show Peaky Blinders, which is Robin's favorite show of all time. This is one of two episodes which will be Peaky focused; here we talk about the style, the characters, and the themes of Seasons 1-6, and in the next Peaky episode we will talk about the new movie, The Immortal Man. Strap in for over an hour of Robin wearing her heart on her sleeve and trying to articulate why this show means so much to her. Show notes:Robin made a Peaky montage edit to one of her favorite songs from her favorite British band, because of course she did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_ockJWex0Robin also wrote a post on Reddit about one of her favorite short-term characters -- the delightfully psychotic Tatiana, a Russian Duchess who gives Tommy a run for his money: https://www.reddit.com/r/PeakyBlinders/comments/1l3qdln/tatiana_is_one_crazy_bitch_and_i_love_her/

    E10 | Send for the Devil (Outlander S8 E5)

Holy History! This is a history podcast, and we found a lot of it in this episode of Outlander. We also cover our thoughts on Jamie's incredible kilt-fit to weak-sauce battle scenes. And Robin and Michelle lay plans to pursue Outlander LARPing (!). Please follow us on Instagram at @FallenThroughTimePod!

  9. 9

EP 9 | Muskets, Liberty and Sauerkraut (Outlander S8 E4)

Robin and Michelle come together on both liking sauerkraut and Mrs. Cunningham in episode 4. This episode of Outlander had some rich historical easter eggs! Additionally, there are surprise twists, an adorable sibling re-meet cute, more fun 18th century insults, and glances that say a thousand words from Claire. Robin discusses the historical impact of Joseph Brant, a member of the Mohawk tribe who fought for the British. Michelle has an Outlandish theory. She should also probably post a correction for confusing the Wicked Witch of the West with the Wicked Witch of the East, but hey, they are sisters, bro.

  10. 8

    EP8 | Abies Fraseri (Outlander S8 E3)

Ecology Easter eggs, Shakespearian insults, magical powers and conspiracy theories: Episode 3 of Season 8 of Outlander had a lot happening while also laying a lot of ground work. We dish about the details in today's podcast.

  11. 7

    EP7 | Train Dreams

In this history-laden episode we discuss the recent best-picture nominee Train Dreams, with its depiction of the hard but beautiful life of an Idaho lumber worker in the early 20th century. We cover History with a capital H, ethereal cinematography, nuanced acting and other themes woven into this dreamy but poignant film.

  12. 6

    EP6 | Prophecies (Outlander S8 E2)

Birth, death, marriage, and bear attacks?! What doesn't this episode have? From the history of miscegenation, Free Masons, and creepy Benjamin Cleveland to random bear attacks, Frank mocking Jamie in his thoughts, and even more undead Outlander characters, we cover all the angles of Episode 2 of Outlander's final season–titled Prophecies and directed by the beloved Caitríona Balfe. NEXT EPISODE: On Monday we'll discuss the Oscar-nominated film Train Dreams.

  13. 5

    EP5 | Soul of a Rebel (Outlander S8E1)

We definitely recommend a wee dram to help keep up with this old fashioned sister dish sesh on the season 8 premier episode of Outlander. There is less analysis and history in this episode of Fallen Through Time, but we find lots to love and lots to laugh our heads off about. Outlander is a roller coaster, and we are here for the ride of a lifetime!

  14. 4

    EP4 | Immortal Beloved

In Episode 4, Robin and Michelle analyze the movie Immortal Beloved (1994)—a fictionalized biopic about the composer Beethoven and his many lovers. This is Part II of our miniseries on Creative Genius and the period films exploring that theme. Join us as we discuss Gary Oldman, Candyman, Napoleon and more!

  15. 3

    EP3 | Outlander Preview
