Fifties Unscripted: Embracing My Second Act
by Shelley
Life is not like the movies or a tv show. There is no script and it is full of change and has many variations! Each individual reacts to situations differently based on their lived experiences and no one is exactly the same. Self-care, self-compassion and self-awareness are important to learn and grow. My goal is to share my stories and offer my perspective on how I have dealt with change and the lessons I've learned so far.

In 2021, we had to say goodbye to my dad. Tonight, I want to share what I experienced, my feelings, emotions and the hardships I dealt with in accepting this next unscripted chapter in life. Losing a loved one is never easy, and it is important to remember that no two people, even those experiencing the same loss, will feel, react or handle things the same way. I will also share how I managed for the first year and what the girls and I have done since to always remember and stay close with Papa.

S1E8 Still Here, Still Me: Living with Chronic Illness
In this episode I revisit the struggles I faced as I came to terms and finding out about different health struggles. The need to trust your instincts and not be afraid to ask for a second opinion. As someone who lives with an invisible disability it can be a struggle to get people to understand what you deal with. It can also be difficult to figure out how to manage, when you want to do so much and are limited in what is capable. I hope talking about my experience will shed some light on what it is like living with chronic illness.

In this weeks episode I open up on my mental health journey. I believe in the importance of talking about mental health and raising awareness. S1E3 From a Certain Point of View
What you see isn't always the full story. For almost twenty years I struggled with weight management. I had lost hope, didn't believe I could ever lose the weight or win the battle. I just thought it was due to everything in life, however the biggest roadblock was me. Over the past twenty years I had let my inner critic call the shots. This year I put her in her place and I took charge and rewrote my story. Now 80lbs lighter, I'm on a new journey and nearing a goal I originally thought I would never achieve.
