Despite being fortunate to beat the United States in the very first match of the tournament and being smashed by South Africa a week and a half later, India became the first country to win three T20 World Cup with a decisive victory over New Zealand in today’s final in Ahmedabad. They are also the first country to repeat as champions in what has been an incredibly competitive format of cricket. India’s performance in its final three matches where they got by a West Indies squad last Sunday that were the better team on the day held off England, who were perhaps the greatest threat to win this tournament and then today’s final victory was a week for the ages. India advances to the World Cup final despite a heroic effort from England. India’s seven run win hinged on two key moments. Beyond that, Bumrah was the difference as he once again showed why he is a generational talent and how India continues to excel because of his bowling. We also talk about those two key moments in this match where if it had turned out differently, England would have won. Once again, I pay tribute to Bethell and his cool demeanor which quite frankly has been the most positive things about England in this tournament. While more experienced cricketers with a longer track record of winning have melted under pressure he has stayed steady. And did Harry Brook make the right call in terms of his team? I don’t think he did. We also look ahead to the final India V New Zealand and whether India needs to drop some of their weaker performers.
