Cosplaying as an Alligator with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

[Live-recorded 12/4/23] In the season finale, Mike and David continue on the MGS train with the acclaimed MGS3. They talk about Ocelot's love of gun-spinning, the newly-added gameplay mechanics, and the big twist end. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Ranking Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics

[Live-recorded 11/20/23] David's brother Ben doesn't play video games really. That is, except for peak: 51 Clubhouse as they refer to it. The two rank all 51 games in this package (plus a piano). •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Uncovering Shadow Organizations with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

[Live-recorded 11/13/23] David and Mike take part in the simulation that is MGS2. They discuss the mind-blowing ending, the character of Raiden, the puzzles, and also the clunky mechanics. (Note: At 21:37 I had to cut some garbled audio. Mike is referring to how on harder difficulties there is an extra hidden bomb behind a flag on the bridge. We played on easy so we didn't see this.) •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  5. 24

Fultoning Sheep with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

[Live-recorded 11/6/23] David has been re-playing one of his favorite games with Orion: MGSV. And there is a lot to talk about for such a big game; from story beats to cassette tapes to differing playstyles to the buddy system, it is packed. But Orion mostly tranquilizes poor animals. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Running a University Esport with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

[Live-recorded 10/30/23] David and special guest Nelson talk about what it's like running Rider University's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate club. The two also discuss some other games and the recently released Five Nights at Freddy's movie. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Listening to Laugh Tracks with Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights

[Live-recorded 10/23/23] It's Orion's birthday! He was gone over the weekend, so Mike and David picked a mystery game to play and talk about. Orion finds out it was Scooby-Doo! Night of 100 Frights in the admittedly very boring opening. Creepy 3D models of Fred, talk of game tutorials, and even a forgotten game from Orion's childhood. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  8. 21

Orion Has His Moment with Baldur's Gate 3

[Live-recorded 10/16/23] Orion likes fantasy settings, medieval settings, 'choices matter' games, Dungeons & Dragons, and character customization, so of course he would like this year breakout hit Baldur's Gate 3. When the radio station's board freezes, Orion's improvisation comes in clutch. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  9. 20

Succumbing to Torture with Disney's Extremely Goofy Skateboarding

[Live-recorded 10/9/23] You may not know, but the three guys have a passion for Goofy on this show. Disney's Extremely Goofy Skateboarding is a mess, so much so that the conversation divulges into what other horrible games have the guys played. But even a mess of a game provides for great entertainment. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  10. 19

Tearing Up Over Our Own Mortalities with The Walking Dead

[Live-recorded 10/2/23] Orion and David tackle Telltale's The Walking Dead. Filled with emotion and analysis on story and gameplay choices, this is a good one (trust me). With time remaining, Mike and David talk about their initial thoughts on Yakuza 0 and the amazing minigames. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

We've Played a lot of Fighting Games

[Live-recorded 9/25/23] The three sit down to chat about all the different fighting games they have played in the past couple years at school. From the one button indie games to the confusing combo centric ones, the group has experienced a diverse array of characters, mechanics, and hand pain. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Playing World 1-1 Repeatedly with Super Mario Bros. 3

[Live-recorded 9/18/23] The crew play Super Mario Bros 3. live on-air! Orion explains his love of the game while they go over all the little things that make Super Mario Bros. 3 unique. And who knew they ported this game to PC? While playing the game, they share their thoughts on all things Mario — the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder, power-ups, their favorite enemies, and more. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Sneaking around Shadow Moses with Metal Gear Solid

[Live-recorded 9/11/23] Although Metal Gear Solid has been discussed on the show before, David found the game too significant to not introduce it to Mike and Orion. The three spend their time talking about the game's history, the menus and controls, and the polarizing boss fights. David also busts out the ol' sound board to play some of his favorite lines from the game and explain how they impacts the memorable narrative. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

    Season 2: Summer Recap Extravaganza

[Live-recorded 9/4/23] Children around the world sing. The sun shines just a little brighter. It is time for Season 2 of Games from the Dorm. David, Mike, and Orion are back to recap their summers and share the many games they played over the break. David also breaks down what the future of the show entails. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

    Season 1 Finale

[Live-recorded 4/26/23] Tears will be shed. But time waits for no one. In this very special episode of the show, David, Mike, and Orion, do a lot of looking back. They list their favorite games they have played during the year and talk about their favorite moments of the show thus far. This culminates in a trivia show hosted by David about Games from the Dorm. I hope you have been taking notes at home. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Going to Bingo with Resident Evil 4 (2023)

[Live-recorded 4/19/23] The group re-enter the world of survival horror. David creates a thesis to explain the three major reasons why the original game is beloved and sees how the remake adapts these elements. He also argues that the remake is filled with just as much charm as the original game. Mike and Orion add into the conversation of what makes RE4 more than just a standard third-person shooter by discussing the shop mechanics, diverse gameplay sections, and Leon's newly-renovated knife. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Crafting our Magnum Opus with Goofy's Fun House

[Live-recorded 4/12/23] Here it is. The moment you all have been waiting for. Goofy's Fun House. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Creating a Video Game with Boat Bust

[Live-recorded 4/5/23] Orion and David made a game! And Mike's here too! The two creators talk about their experience staying in a room together, the ways they coped with frustration, their specific roles they played in the development process, etc. Not only did the two learn the game software Twine, they also learned about Orion's crippling Monster addiction. You can download Boat Bust on itch.io using this link: https://dk11.itch.io/boat-bust •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Sightseeing with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

[Live-recorded 3/29/23] In preparation for Tears of the Kingdom, the three caballeros talk about Breath of the Wild: the game where you can do anything. Except for tame a bear. Also, a new segment called the Dorm Drawer is introduced disastrously. Mike, David and Orion all had different parts of the game stick out, whether it was their love of the simplistic menus, the glitches, or their love of torturing NPCs. Learn more of why the group considers this game to be one of the best ever made. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  20. 9

    Sentimentalizing with Club Penguin

[Live-recorded 3/22/23] David and special guest Ava talk about one of their childhood favorites: Club Penguin. The two explain the art style and gameplay evolution over the many years that Club Penguin existed and discuss Disney's influence over the game. David and Ava spend much time on the greatest aspect of Club Penguin, being the minigames. If you've ever wanted to know which minigames rank above all others from a now discontinued children's game, this is your chance. They then end the episode by talking about the demise of Club Penguin. While one poet may strike a connection between the end of Club Penguin and the end of these hosts' childhoods, David and Ava believe the game's finale was just one step closer to achieving world peace. No matter the case, prepare for the most nostalgic-ridden episode of Games from the Dorm yet. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

Laughing at Marketing Decisions with Video Game Box Art

[Live-recorded 3/8/23] On this extra special edition of Games from the Dorm, David, Mike, and Orion select some of their favorite video game box art and talk about what makes them special. Or at least, that was the plan. Instead, the group laughs at the absurdity that comes from sitting in a room and staring at Lebron James' gigantic head on the NBA 2K14 cover. Have you ever seen the Japanese Super Mario 64 DS cover? It is stranger than you may think. And somehow, Mike and Orion whip out the biggest inside joke that Games from the Dorm has seen yet. Prepare for the crown jewel that is Goofy's Fun House on the Playstation. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  22. 7

Jumping Through Bottomless Holes with Silent Hill 2

[Live-recorded 3/1/23] After David played the original Silent Hill last week, he and Orion discuss their polarizing opinions when it comes to Silent Hill 2, one of our most memorable gaming experiences to date (although Mike has not played it, it wouldn't be Games from the Dorm without him!). The group praise the creepy audio and enemy design, the deep dream-like atmosphere, and the unique puzzles. But it is hard to ignore the elephants in the room. Orion and David struggle through tedious boss fights, multiple gameplay pacing issues, and a camera that won't follow directions. Is one of the most critically-acclaimed games of all time still worth playing in 2023? Does the story make up for the clunky combat? And how on Earth can Eddie eat pizza at a time like this? •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  23. 6

Wandering Through Hallways and Doors with Silent Hill and P.T.

[Live-recorded 2/22/23] It's a double feature today as David, Mike, and Orion tackle the dreadful world of Silent Hill. David shares his frustrations playing through the original Silent Hill, including the nonsensical storyline and the hundreds of broken doors that block every path. But that is not to say that beauty does not exist under the game's surface. And apparently you can beat the final boss by doing absolutely nothing? The group then dives into P.T., the terrifying playable teaser for the unreleased Silent Hills. It was hard to keep track how many times David, Mike, and Orion clung to each other in fear. They discuss how the teaser uses minimal gameplay to its advantage, how jumpscares feel earned, and if horror games today are objectively scarier than in the past. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  24. 5

Confessing our Troublesome Opinions with Video Game Controllers

[Live-recorded 2/15/23] David, Mike, and Orion have played a lot of games. And fortunately (or unfortunately) different games require different controllers. The guys share memories of the games they have played and how the corresponding controllers impacted their experiences. This is done to make a definitive tier list of every controller they have used. Disagree? You are wrong. David gets overly excited about the extendable 3DS styluses. Mike defends the classic choice of keyboard and mouse. Orion grooms a horse with the Kinect. And all have a lot to say about the Wii U gamepad. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  25. 4

Missing 90% Accurate Shots with XCOM 2

[Live-recorded 2/8/23] The gang's all here! David and Mike quickly discuss their predictions for the upcoming Nintendo Direct before Orion introduces the hit turn-based strategy game XCOM 2. Although strategy games aren't David's genre of choice, the three had more than enough fun creating their custom soldiers. Orion discusses the expansion of the game, War of the Chosen, and his thoughts on the updated story and gameplay. The three discuss whether or not the game's low difficulty causes boredom. They also talk about gameplay features that will be added in a potential XCOM 3. And Orion makes a very dated and embarrassing Star Wars joke. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  26. 3

Stalked by Mr. X with Resident Evil 2 (2019)

[Live-recorded 2/1/23] David is joined by fellow video game player (and friend!) Orion Martin as they enter the world of survival horror with Resident Evil 2 Remake. Stress-inducing was putting it lightly as the pair encountered zombies, Lickers, and the occasional Claire Redfield obscenity. They discuss the integral map of the Raccoon City Police Department, the spongy enemy design, and the accidental moment when Leon S. Kennedy transformed into his beautiful 1998 polygonal look. That's not even stating the terrifying Tyrant, a.k.a Mr. X, who scared David and Orion even when they put the controller down (and accidentally left the TV on). From his surprise appearances on different playthroughs to his jumpscare-punch in the garage, he adds the flair needed to make this game an all-time classic for both David and Orion. •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox

  27. 2

Crawling Under Hidden Lasers with Metal Gear Solid

[Live-recorded 1/25/23] Games from the Dorm is back! Now in radio show form! David covers the massive hit (and his first ever Playstation 1 game) with Metal Gear Solid. From the ingenious fourth wall breaks to the wide variety of hidden gameplay mechanics, this game is chock-full of detail and surprises. Are the boss fights outdated by today's standards? Does the story get too convoluted for its own good? And will anyone help David as he uses a SPOON to mash out of torture? •••••••••••• Music By ••••••••••••• "Sports Junkie'' Music by Jay Man | OurMusicBox Website: www.our-music-box.com YouTube:    / ourmusicbox
