A luxury newborn session workflow - with Ally-Stuart-Ross
Ally Stuart-Ross has been a lifelong photographer in a career that has lasted over 30 years. She is a newborn photographer, an educator and a speaker. She also ran her family portrait studio, which gave her a grounding in helping clients and print sales. But her true calling was newborn photography. She started training for this unique genre in 2019, and in 2020 I created the Mabel and Moose brand. After falling in love with newborn photography she now trains other women to become newborn photographers and become financially free. You can create a luxury workflow for your clients very easily and the results will be that your clients will feel better about the shoot, the images and be more likely to recommend you to other. Start with sitting down and writing what you current workflow is and then make a list next to it and on that list, write down all the ways you can improve the workflow. Systemise it, bring it to the session with you (a flow posing guide or notes) and stay consistent. Diversity does not exist, without inclusion- Anna Neubauer
Anna is an Austrian photographer and visual artist based in London, United Kingdom, she discovered her love for visual storytelling by creating self-portraits to find her inner self and bring the surreal world of her imagination to life. After experiencing the narrow concepts of beauty in the industry, Anna began a journey towards capturing what truly matters to her - stories of self-love, acceptance, and resilience. Anna thinks the less diversity people see in their everyday lives, the more disconcerting they might find it, and she knew that was something she could change. For her, diversity does not exist without inclusion. We are bombarded with social media, magazines, online advertising on a daily basis. Most of these images are nowhere near as diverse as the world around us is. Sometimes change has to come from within, if you just start to ask yourself questions about diversity in your own work, the ripple effect can be massive. Never be afraid to ask questions, do your research and be respectful. Full show notes: Sponsor link: https://www.policybee.co.uk/gathertogrow Guest link: https://www.anna-neubauer.com/

Not a hobby, but a business. Create consistency with Kristina Mac
Kristina Mack has been photographing newborn babies for over 17 years. A lover of simplicity, she creates soulful, elegant and timeless images. Kristina has been mentoring fellow photographers on how to find their own style and take their newborn photography skills and businesses to the next level for nearly a decade now. Consistency is all about knowing yourself, your style and your brand. These can seem like very big things to try and figure out and they are. 4 Steps to a better portfolio - Yasmin Anne
In this episode I will talk about the ways I maintained a consistent and solid portfolio, over my time as a family photographer and how that lead me to create a flourishing business with return clients. If you are lacking inspiration, do not (and I really strongly advise this) go online and look at your peers work. All that will happen is you will end up copying what they are already doing. This leads to an industry full of people doing the same thing and clients that are basing their decisions on price, vs creative ability. Instead, get outside. Get into nature, go to art galleries, travel, listen to music or audio books, meditate, create artwork or sew or knit etc. There is so much you can do to inspire yourselves. Step into the shoes of an artist and be a creator. Money mindset & Business success - With Gemma Heard
It is completely possible as a women in business to break down those barriers we have around money and improve our relationship with it, to increase the wealth that we have. The easiest way to do this is to first think about our own money mindset. This is just a set of beliefs that we hold that's individual and specific to us about money. It's formed really in the very early years of our lives, depending on what we've listened to and had modeled around us from like our caregivers, whatever their perspectives on money was. All these things are not necessarily true and they aren’t our story, they are someone else's. Whatever your story with money, you can change it. The first step is the acknowledgement that you want to change to start with, then move onto looking at your money. Get familiar with it, whats coming in and what’s coming out. I know its really hard to get to grips with running a business and all the financial responsibilities that come with it. However, if you can re-form your habits and make your money mindset a priority, I guarantee you, you will find the day to day running of your business not only easier, but more successful too. Your menstrual cycle is affecting your business - Natalie Martin
Get ready to get serious about your menstrual cycle, in this episode, we cover some fairly intimate topics so we ask you to come with an open heart, you may just learn something new. Menstrual cycle awareness at its absolute basic core is being aware of the fact that you have a menstrual cycle, which sounds really obvious, but a lot of the time people don't actually realise it's a cycle, they focus on having a period and that's it. So it's understanding that you have this cycle, which is repeating phases of hormones, let's say, that affect how you move through the world, how you feel about yourself, about the world around you, about the things that you do, and the foods that you eat and how your body operates, we're all governed by hormones. Every menstrual cycle is different, if yours doesn’t follow the ‘typical’ pattern that's completely ok. The key is to track your cycle and learn how you respond within it. You can use it like a calendar, so you know when to be productive in business and when to be more reflective. From nowhere to number 1! - SEO with Jodie Mitchell
SEO, it stands for search engine optimization if you don't know, but it's essentially just a set of algorithms, just like with Instagram, but for Google instead, helping you sit higher up in the rankings because as everybody knows, you never really go to page two on Google, so the higher up you can get, the better and the more eyes you're gonna get on your business. Not only is it a whole other marketing platform, it's for your website, so it's like off social media, it's something that you own yourself which is really nice because with Instagram these days if you lose your profile like that's that's kind of it like no one can really help with that but your website is yours that's your like internet real estate that you own yourself. No one can take it away from you. Do a little and often, if you’ve already built a website, re-doing all these things can seem like a massive job. Take it slowly and remember, even if it’s small, it’s still progress! If you haven’t built your website yet, this is your sign to make sure you prioritise optimising your website for SEO. It’s so much easier to do it as you go. 3 Ways AI can help you run your business
Who’s the dickhead that thought it was ‘chat GBT’….instead of what it actually is ‘chat GPT’ yeah, that would be me. So if you want to come and listen to an episode where I constantly reference the wrong software (that I’ve been using happily without realising the correct name for 3 years) come and listen to this weeks podcast episode: 3 ways AI can help you run your business. I know the idea of AI can be scary, but I promise a remote robot is not going to take over your computer. On this episode, we're going to talk about how AI technology can help you run your photography business better. So what is AI? AI is just new technology guys! Just like back in the day when your phone or computer that you're probably currently listening on right now was just new technology. As we know, advances in technology usually mean that we can save time on everyday tasks and technology is a good thing. In this episode, I'll walk you through all the ways I've used AI not only to help me run my business but improve it as well. All while saving me time and saving my sanity (just a little bit) Remember: AI is an amazing tool, but it shouldn’t completely replace you. Use it to your advantage, but remember, your magic needs to be shared with the world, and that will never come from a robot. Becoming self employed: Taking the leap
I want to preface this first episode by saying you don’t HAVE to become self-employed! I know that goes against the title of this podcast, but not everyone has to leap into becoming a full-time, self-employed photographer. However, if this is something you’ve been thinking about, or is on the horizon for you then make sure you take the time to tune in! If becoming self-employed is something you want to work towards, start by making a plan. I know it can be scary but trust yourself. Ask yourself why you are doing this. When you begin to doubt, remind yourself of that ‘why’ everytime. Remember, others have done this, more people will continue to do it daily. It can be done, so why not you? Inspiration VS copying: Discovering & embracing authenticity with Jess Collins, the feral writer
Being authentic to yourself is about being rooted in who you are and what you believe in. It’s standing true in that even when the wind is blowing against you. It’s hard to stand in who you are and in your truth, whilst not being affected by the people around you. I truly believe it’s when we are authentic like that, when we’re truly us, that we can connect with others because you can only connect from a place of truth, not from a place of projection. Jess Collins is The Feral Writer. Known for her straight-talking grit not gloss approach, she tells tales with texture and leads with truth. Personal, powerful and impactful, she creates courageous content and authentic marketing for brands worldwide. Jess originally ran a content marketing agency and was a specialist content marketing writer for The Guardian. These days things are much more simple, working part time from the sand, notebook in hand, she has embraced a slower pace and a more intentional way of working. Her signature offering is her membership community Empress – the membership community for soulful creatives.. You can also find her on her podcast M Path –Meaningful Marketing for Soulful Creatives. If you are constantly looking to other people for inspiration, you will constantly be questioning yourself. You will always think ‘am I goof enough?’ ‘Are my images ok?’ ‘What should I do next?’ Instead, go out and actually CREATE the life and art you want. It might be a bit scary at first, but all you have to do is begin. By being 100% you, the right people will be drawn to you like a magnet and the wrong people, they will just fall away. The challenges of toxic positivity & how to become neutral with body image coach Teri Hofford
Body neutrality is the understanding that we have been conditioned all our lives to have negative thoughts about our bodies and that’s not going to go away with bubble baths and long walks. Instead, it’s this idea of recognizing that yes, I’m going to have some not so nice thoughts about my body, but I’m not going to let those thoughts stop me from doing what I want to do with my life. Teri Hofford is a body image educator, author, and photographer who uses creativity & curiosity to encourage folks to challenge their body image biases and beliefs so they can move closer to self and body acceptance. Body neutrality is a journey, one that can take a long time and to be honest, is never truly complete. You will have moments or even days where you think negatively about yourself. The key is to question why, sit with it and get curious about your own feelings around your body. The more you look at your body, get creative with it in self portraits, the less shocked you’ll be with how it looks and dare I say, you might even come to like it a bit. Remember, you are trying to undo a lifetime of being conditioned to hate your body. Give yourself some grace and love Gather to grow instagram community: https://www.instagram.com/gathertogrowco Gather to grow show notes: https://gathertogrow.co.uk/2024/06/02/terri-hofford-challenges-of-toxic-positivity Download your free guide: How to trigger your clients into spending with you HERE Thanks to our Podcast sponsor for this episode: Policy bee insurance for photographers, visit this link for 10% off - https://www.policybee.co.uk/gathertogrow
