Great Books of the World

Great books make us what we are, living in our memories as the repositories of experiences, values and beliefs. They are to be found in all civilisations and cultures from the earliest oral narratives to the digitized works of the global present. They show us how we think and act, helping us to understand each other and enabling us to deal with diversity and change in our lives. Great Books of the World covers the classic, foundational and contemporary narratives of the major global civilisations of today’s world. Each podcast takes the form of an interview available in video and/or audio format with a specialist who gives the background, explains the significance and discusses interesting aspects of major works of world literature. Many of these works you will have read, but many will be unfamiliar. The tone is light and informal as we move from the known and loved classics of the western tradition to the lesser-known narratives of India, China and the Muslim world.
