Are Humans Hyper-Carnivores with Dr. Miki Ben-Dor

Today we speak with Dr. Miki Ben-Dor, a paleoanthropologist who researches and publishes on the association between diet and human evolution. His research has been an integral part of reshaping the narrative around nutrition from an evolutionary perspective. He has put together various papers with a range and depth of evidence in support of the idea that humans likely evolved as hyper-carnivores. This is of course extremely important in the discussion about nutrition given the mainstream is trying to persuade people to reduce their meat intake. If we evolved to eat these foods and we then remove them from our diet, what effect does this have? Since the dawn of the USDA food guidelines it’s pretty apparent that the shift away from animal fats and towards carbohydrates and industrial seed oils has been a complete nightmare and failure of dietary policy bringing rise to the worst obesity and chronic disease epidemic we’ve ever seen in Westernised developed countries. We cover a few key topics that Miki has researched, but for a more comprehensive and detailed review of all the research in support of Miki’s position, we highly recommend you read his papers or watch some of his other talks on available on YouTube. Breaking Down the MYTHS Around Cows and Sustainability

In our final episode of our introductory 6 part series we discuss the role of us, as consumers, in supporting sustainability and regenerative agriculture and cover the nuance around the carbon and methane cycle and the role of managing ecosystems which include carnivores, herbivores and plants. There is a lot of misinformation driven by the plant based community around the role of cattle especially in the carbon and methane cycle, but when you understand how these cycles work, you see that it is completely ridiculous to blame cows for carbon and methane emissions. 🥩 SAVE 10% Off Vital Origin with code ‘SOURCE10’ Learn more about us 📕 References: Sacred Cow Book, Robb Wolf and Diana Rodgers

All About FAT - History, Misconceptions and Health

On this episode we talk all about FAT. For a long time fat has been wrongly vilified in relation to health. Early research drove a narrative which has been hard to change, but now we are starting to see more evidence come out that fat is not as bad as we thought - in fact it’s fundamental to health. Plus, from an ancestral perspective, it doesn’t make sense that a food we’ve consumed for hundreds of thousands of years is suddenly causing an increase in heart disease. You’ll learn all about fat on this episode including what fat and cholesterol are, the history of how fat was vilified, why we need fat and its relation to health like fat soluble vitamins. Of course we’re big fans of tallow, a natural fat sourced from beef, which we offer through our company Vital Origin. If you’ve never tried cooking with tallow, you’re going to want to after this episode! Reconnecting With Where Your Food Comes From

Over the last few generations we’ve completely lost the connection to our food. We no longer hunt or gather our own food and many have virtually no concept about how their food ends up on their plate. This lack of connection is likely a major driver of what we’re seeing with disease and the transition to highly processed and fake foods, including plant based food.  If you care about your health, then you must care about where your food is coming from. And if you choose to consume animals, it is even more incumbent on you to be conscious about the sourcing to ensure it is ethical and sustainable.  In today’s episode Chris walks us through Provenir’s proprietary process and helps us understand the intricacies of Provenir’s processing for meat and where Vital Origin’s products come from. We discuss why nose-to-tail consumption is important, traceability and sourcing, why our products are the most ethical and fresh products you can get and much more.  This episode does get into the details of cattle processing so is not for the faint of heart, but we believe it is important to understand these processes because this allows us to make more informed and conscious choices about our food to help improve animal welfare and sustainability in our food supply. Ultimately it is up to you, the consumers, the support the right causes with your wallet. 🥩 SAVE 10% Off Vital Origin with code ‘SOURCE10’: https://vitalorigin.com.au/product/ Learn more about us: https://vitalorigin.com.au/about-us/ 📕 References: Provenir - https://provenir.com.au/about/
