In February of 2019, Chris was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Mediastinal Large B-cell. Chris underwent six rounds of chemotherapy totaling up to thirty-six bags. Before starting his first treatment, he learned how much the cost of treatment would be and it was at that moment, Guardian Knight was born. Being a husband, father of three, and the sole provider of his family, he understood the magnitude of the financial burden that would come along with his treatment. While being off of work for over six months, he learned the true value of family and friendships. Without them, the burden would have been much greater. For this very reason, he wanted to make sure that no other cancer patient would have to carry that burden alone.
