Your ego is not your amigo. My career as the music manager at Swazi Radio was just starting to take off when they brought in a music manager with far more experience than me. I was demoted to Assistant Music Manager The thought of teaching them a lesson and resigning crossed my mind. Thank goodness I was able to curb my ego. Early on in my career, I learned the importance of pivoting away from a strategy, or a course of action that doesn't pan out. The goal stays the same, but the means of achieving it may have to change. My career changed drastically when it occurred to me that showbiz is 10% show and 90% business. It's like an iceberg with just the tip showing, while the underside is where the bulk of the iceberg is located. In business terms, the part others see is a small fraction of the activity. The part one doesn't see, is where the hard work takes place. I decided that the business side of things was where I wanted to devote my time and effort.
