The Real Reason You Feel Anxious About Money with Rahkim Sabree | Episode 39
I used to think I was just "bad with money." After my divorce at 23, I walked away from everything and gave my ex-husband all my savings out of guilt, stepping into a money story defined by debt, scarcity, and shame. But now I understand that my problem wasn't a lack of financial literacy—it was financial trauma, and if you've ever felt a tightness in your chest when checking your bank account, or felt anxiety even though you have "enough" on paper, this episode explores how your relationship with money is often actually about safety, identity, and your nervous system trying to protect you. Rahkim Sabree is a financial therapist, Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®), Trauma of Money Certified Practitioner, TEDx Speaker, and the author of Overcoming Financial Trauma. He has worked with individuals, corporate teams, HR professionals, and financial advisors, and brings deep insight into bridging the gap between financial literacy and trauma-informed care. In this episode, Jay and Rahkim discuss: ► Why financial advice often feels incomplete, and the difference between financial therapy and financial planning. ► Why you're not "bad with money"—and why your perceived "bad decisions" are actually normal nervous system responses to abnormal circumstances. ► How fight, flight, freeze, and fawn show up in your daily money behaviors, from overworking to actively avoiding your bank account. ► The ways jobs, hustle culture, and entrepreneurial ventures can reinforce financial trauma. ► What it sounds like to actually set financial boundaries, talk about money more honestly, and find healing in community rather than isolation. Letting Go of Who You Thought You'd Be with Sasha Davies | Episode #35
What happens when the path you've been told to follow starts to feel intolerable? In this episode, we explore the uncomfortable space of not knowing what's next and the courage it takes to choose what actually delights you instead. Jay and Sasha dive into the friction between cultural expectations of consistency and the messy, multifaceted reality of a life lived in alignment with one's curiosity. Sasha has done a lot of different things. She's published 3 books—two on cheese and one on menopause. She's been a project manager, cheesemonger, podcaster, shopkeeper, restaurant manager, human resources assistant, copywriter and book coach. Why Grief Makes You Question Who You Are with Uma Girish | Episode #34
Today's episode is about grief. Or at least it starts out that way, but the conversation evolves into being about authenticity, purpose and desire. And weirdly, as you listen, you'll find that these topics make sense together. Because for as heavy and all-encompassing as grief feels while you're in it, it's inseparable from some of the most essential questions in life. Who am I? What am I here to do? And what do I really want? Uma Girish is a Grief Companion, Human Design guide, and the author of four books, including Sacred Fire: Memoir of a Marriage. She works with women who are grieving a loss and feeling lost, helping them navigate not just the death of a loved one, but the "lower-case losses"—breakups, changing roles, diagnoses, empty nesting, and the years spent not choosing themselves. Uma serves as a compassionate witness, helping women listen to what grief is asking of them and who they are becoming in the process. In this episode, Jay and Uma discuss: ► Grief as an Identity Reset ► Spiritual Bypassing vs. True Feeling ► The nervous system's and mind's common responses to loss ► Human Design as a Soul Map ► Reclaiming Desire Learn more about Uma Girish ► Website: https://umagirish.com/► Substack: Light After Loss (via website) ► Book: Sacred Fire: Memoir of a Marriage ► Special Offer: Uma is offering a free 20-minute Human Design Highlights reading to the first two listeners who email her with their birth details. Are you a fawner? with Jay Moon Fields | Episode #33
Have you ever felt like your nervous system is pressing the gas pedal and the brake at the same time? In the first solo episode of Season Two, Jay explores the often-overlooked "Fawn" stress response, a survival strategy that prioritizes connection over authenticity. If you find yourself shape-shifting to please others or losing touch with your own needs to keep the peace, this episode will help you understand that it isn't a personality flaw; it's your nervous system trying to keep you safe. Jay Moon Fields is a somatic coach, author, and the host of Hey Wait. She works with people who struggle to stay connected to themselves while connecting with others, bringing deep insight into nervous system regulation, embodiment, and "unfawning." In this episode, Jay discusses: ► The "Hey, Wait" Tool: Using two simple words as a reset button to interrupt default patterns and reorient to your own needs. ► Defining the Fawn Response: Understanding the fourth stress response (alongside fight, flight, and freeze) as "responding to a threat by becoming more appealing to the threat." ► The High-Functioning Fawner: Why fawning often hides in plain sight, looking like competence, empathy, and success on the outside while feeling like numbness and resentment on the inside. ► A Personal Confession: Jay shares a vulnerable (and slightly ridiculous) story about fawning at the airport with her husband. ► The Path to "Unfawning": An introduction to the steps required to heal, including nervous system regulation, reparenting, and parts work. Answering the Call of Your Own Becoming with Angelo Lazenka | Episode #32
This week's episode feels less like an interview and more like a homecoming. Jay sits down to steep in a conversation with Angelo Lazenka, one of her main mentors who shaped her life and work. Angelo is wilderness rites of passage guide and the former Director and President of the School of Lost Borders. He has worked with thousands of individuals seeking growth and insight in the wilderness and brings deep insight into the practice of living, dying, and the healing of the "lie of separation." At 72 years old, Angelo is stepping away from the role of guide and moving into the next chapter of elderhood. In that way, this conversation comes from a "liminal space," the in-between times when you are no longer who you were, but not yet who you are becoming. In this episode, Jay and Angelo discuss: ► What rites of passage really are—and why they are so rare and necessary in our time. ► The vital distinction between self-improvement and true intimacy with life. ► Healing the "lie of separation" between ourselves, nature, and one another. ► Navigating the shift from adulthood into the rich, stewardship-focused territory of elderhood. ► How to answer the call of "that which you've always been, but have yet to become." You're Allowed to do Less with Jay Moon Fields | Episode #31
I have a feeling it would probably land as truth for you if I said to you, Sweetie, you're doing too much. Almost every client I've worked with lately has been struggling with this—the desire to slow down paired with an almost panicky inability to actually do it. I've felt it myself over the past few months, as I've been forced into a much slower pace and lessened capacity due to some unexpected health issues. In this week's solo episode of Hey, Wait, I share: — How your nervous system makes slowing down feel harder than it should — The social and relational conditioning that keeps you constantly striving instead of resting — How to recognize the part of you shaped by both your wiring and your conditioning — Three steps to help you move through the panic that can arise when you try to do less—so you can finally take care of yourself This is my last episode for the 2025 season, and I want to thank you so much for being here! If there was a single episode that really touched you, or if you loved every one of them and you listened every Thursday when they came out, or you found yourself telling your friends about it or doing something differently because of something you heard on this podcast– I have a very simple way that you could be in reciprocity with me for that. After experiencing life-altering betrayals, she embarked on a PhD to study the topic, uncovering three groundbreaking discoveries about how we can heal and transform. Dr. Silber is the founder and CEO of The PBT (Post Betrayal Transformation) Institute and a leading expert on healing from betrayal. In this conversation, she and Jay explore the science and soul of recovery, including why this particular type of trauma requires a different approach. In this episode, Dr. Silber discusses: ► Her personal story of betrayal and what led her to research the topic. ► Post-Betrayal Syndrome and its common physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. ► The five predictable stages of healing from betrayal, and how to know if you are stuck. ► Why it's possible to not only heal but to become a new, transformed version of yourself. Are You Love Addicted? with Jodi White | Episode #26
Do you ever feel like you're dating the same person in a different body, repeating the same painful relationship patterns over and over? Many of us search for a love that completes us, only to find we've lost ourselves in the process. This cycle of relating is more common than you think, and it has a name: love addiction. That is what today's guest, Jodi White, is here to unpack. Jodi is a licensed therapist, coach, and podcaster specializing in codependence and love addiction. Drawing on her professional training and her personal recovery after a 25-year struggle, she helps clients heal relationship patterns rooted in childhood trauma and cultural conditioning. For both Jay and Jodi, a huge "Hey, Wait" moment was the realization that these patterns weren't about love, but about a process addiction. It's an addiction to seeking the safety and validation externally that we needed to develop internally. Understanding this is a powerful first step toward breaking the cycle and building a fulfilling relationship with yourself and others. In this episode, Jodi talks about: ► The difference between codependence and love addiction. ► The three core symptoms of a love addict. ► How cultural messages and childhood experiences create these patterns. ► What the recovery process looks like and how to start healing. Composting Capitalism: Lessons from the Land with Megan Leatherman | #25
Is your relationship with work your most unhealthy one? In a culture that prioritizes constant production and consumption, it's easy to feel like you're just a cog in a machine, disconnected from your own vitality and purpose. The pressure to hustle is relentless, and the system can feel impossible to escape. What if the antidote isn't working harder, but divesting from that system altogether? That is the question today's guest, Megan Leatherman, helps us explore. Megan is an anticapitalist teacher, writer, and vocational guide who teaches people how to "compost capitalism" by reconnecting to the land, the seasons, and their own inner knowing. For both Jay and Megan, the realization that our lives and bodies are not meant to operate like machines was a huge "Hey, Wait" moment. They discuss how capitalism is both powerful and precarious, and how small, gentle acts of rebellion, like watching the sunset or paying attention to the seasons, can help us reclaim our life force. In this episode, Megan talks about: ► What it means to "compost capitalism" and live an anti-capitalist life. ► How to find your true vocation when you feel trapped by the need to earn a wage. ► Using the wisdom of the seasons, especially autumn, to practice letting go. ► Simple, accessible ways to reconnect with the land, even if you live in a city. Living By Your Personal Playbook with Stephanie Szostak | #24
Have you ever felt like an imposter, terrified of being "found out" as unqualified, despite your successes? What if the key to overcoming that fear wasn't to "get it together," but to get radically honest and build your own unique toolkit for mental fitness? You may know Stephanie Szostak from her roles in hit films and shows like The Devil Wears Prada, Iron Man 3, and A Million Little Things. But behind the Hollywood success was a decade-long struggle with imposter syndrome that came to a head after she landed her first lead role. When we hold a baby, we naturally cradle the neck and the tailbone. In that moment we are tuned in to something gentle and instinctive, an awareness of subtle energy. How to Say "Hey, Wait" Without Power Playing | #16
Do you find yourself trying to one-up others? Or maybe you tend to one-down instead? Whichever direction you lean, both have something in common. Contempt. Whether it's contempt for yourself or for the other person, it disconnects you from having a true, grounded experience of yourself. Even if it feels satisfying in the moment. Today, Jay speaks directly with you about what happens in your body when you fall into one-upping or one-downing. Saying "Hey, Wait" means noticing when it happens, tuning in to how it feels in your body, and learning how to move away from that sensation toward something more authentic and connected. In this episode, Jay talks about: Going one-up or one-down in relation to other people One-up is contempt for the other person. One-down is contempt for yourself. The feeling in your body associated with each choice, & how to use your body to bring a sense of equality back to the conversation. Her upcoming book! The Healing Power of Being Truly Known w/ Sarah Peyton | #14
If you're someone who feels deeply—and often feels alone, even when around other people—you likely carry a quiet longing for more in your relationships. Other people—even you—might mistake this wanting as wanting more attention, or wanting more time with the other person. But the true, deeper longing is for more connection. For the sense that someone is truly with you. "Resonance" is a term frequently used by today's guest, Sarah Peyton, to describe a way that you can find deep and healing connection with yourself and others. Sarah is an author and educator of relational neuroscientist, and her conversation with Jay will challenge the way you think about loneliness, shame, human interaction, and self-empathy. When you allow yourself to open up to another person, when you truly connect and feel their presence and your own, you begin to shift your entire perspective on both yourself and the world around you. In this episode, Sarah talks about: Why cortisol is the hormone of loneliness—and what emotion spikes it most The difference between resonance, empathy, and compassion What it takes to find your internal resonant voice—and what's possible when you speak to yourself in a warm, inviting way How you're trained in childhood to either over-attune or emotionally insulate yourself How emotional insulation can travel from generation to generation as a learned habit Being "known" by others can actually rewire your brain To learn more about Sarah's work, her writing, and more, visit her website at https://sarahpeyton.com/ And to stay connected with Jay, head over to jaymoonfields.com and follow along on Instagram. Making Meaning Out of Pain: w/ Jon Macaskill | #13
Accepting your humanity means embracing every part of yourself, including your emotions. The image we often associate with a Navy SEAL is toughness, resilience, and strength. That's what makes today's guest, Jon Macaskill, so compelling. A retired Navy SEAL with 24 years of service, Jon has been through some extraordinary experiences. But instead of using his past as an excuse to close off from his emotions, he has chosen to express them openly and confidently through his widely successful podcast Men Talking Mindfulness. Jon is a layered and complex person. In this conversation with Jay, you'll have the chance to experience so many different sides of him. He is a warrior, a kind and thoughtful man, a father, a speaker, and someone who knows the value of pausing to reflect. As someone who has worked directly with Jay, Jon is a great example of what it looks like to stop, say "Hey, Wait," and hold space for both your own experience and the experience of others. In this episode, Jon talks about: Lessons learned through the Navy SEALS The continued value of practicing mindfulness Being "Nice" is not the same as being "Kind" Having resilience in yourself starts by having faith in yourself You're more confident than you're giving yourself credit for To learn more about Jon, explore his podcast, work, and offerings at jonmacaskill.com/links. Giving Yourself the Gift of Peace: with Erin Diehl | #12
Improv is about saying "Yes, and." It's about listening to others, embracing the moment, and choosing to input your own reality. In that way, improv and "Hey, Wait" are actually very similar. Today's guest Erin Diehl is as authentic as they come. She's a speaker, author, podcast host, "edutainer," "failfluencer," and self-proclaimed professional "Zoombie." Erin fully owns who she is, and yet she still finds herself struggling with people-pleasing. Whether it's through their shared love of Oprah, discussing a messy trip to Mexico City, or hitting heavy topics like the importance of empathy and alignment… Jay's conversation with Erin is one that I think you'll really be able to relate to. It's funny, it's engaging, but most importantly it's entirely authentic. In this episode, Erin talks about: The powerful health benefits of aligning mind and body. How she's learned to say "Hey, Wait" in her own life. Why The Gift of Peace isn't just a nice-to-have. It's essential. What it looks like to let go of ego in service of the mission. Break the Pattern. Not the Peace. | #11
You're not picking a fight. You're picking yourself. Saying "Hey, Wait" might feel like confrontation… But what if it's actually one of the most loving and respectful things you can do? In this solo episode, Jay closes out her three-part series on the "Hey, Wait" method with the final and most tender step: actually saying "Hey, Wait" to another person. Whether you're someone who keeps the peace at all costs or someone who only speaks up when you're already at a boiling point, this practice will help you to find a healthy space in between. A way to stay with yourself while staying true to your relationships. A way to speak up without burning it all down. Because "Hey, Wait" isn't just about learning how to use your voice. It's about learning that your reality matters. In this episode, Jay shares: Why "Hey, Wait" can feel so charged, especially if you're used to staying quiet How to turn "Hey, Wait" into a true bid for connection How to start practicing in low-stakes situations before tackling the bigger ones What to say next, and how to keep the moment grounded in your truth In this episode, Jay also opens up about her course, Yours Truly: a self-paced program designed to help you come home to yourself in your nervous system, your voice, and your relationships. For a limited time, you can join for just $148. Visit jaymoonfields.com/yours-truly to learn more, and use the code wholeness at checkout to receive your discount. Have a question for the podcast? Becoming Radically & Embarrassingly True to Yourself: with Nancy Dreyfus | #10
You don't need to stand up for yourself. You need a "self". Saying "Hey, Wait" is just the beginning. The real magic? Learning how to actually speak from your own reality. If you've been with us from the start, then you already know how much Nancy Dreyfus means to Jay. She's been Jay's mentor for years, and has shaped so much of the "Hey, Wait" approach you've been hearing about. If this podcast has been resonating with you, you'll love this episode. It's packed with thoughtful insights and practical takeaways that'll help you get one step closer to being Radically and Embarrassingly True to Yourself. Unpacking Your Life (feat. Jane Bond) | #9
Welcome back to the "Hey, Wait" Podcast, hosted by embodiment coach, educator, and author Jay Moon Fields. In each episode she shares stories, insights, interviews, and practical tools to help you shift how you show up in your relationships, and in your life. In today's episode, Jay is joined by Jane Bond. Jane is a powerhouse in luxury real estate (Naples, NYC, Philly), and a fierce advocate for women. Having "unpacked her life," Jane now inspires women through her podcast, Unpack Your Life, to pause and take an honest look at their lives—and to ask themselves if what they're going through is allowing for their growth or keeping them hostage? When her career, marriage, finances, and ego all collapsed at once, Jane had to let go of everything she thought made her who she was. In this major "Hey wait" moment, she stepped out of performance and into reckoning—with her truth, her fear, and her power. Together, she and Jay talk about what it takes to stop performing and to start living from presence. Except it took two takes…because the first time Jay and Jane sat down to record the interview, they both fell into old patterns of performing and people pleasing, and it didn't come across as authentically as they knew they were capable of being. So two women who, in earlier chapters of their lives, would've either kept the inauthentic version or thrown it in the trash and walked away, instead chose to stay, have an honest and hard conversation and give themselves and each other a second chance. Give it a listen to see what came out of their second conversation. And Hey, Wait! Before you go, make sure to subscribe to the "Hey, Wait" Podcast so you can follow along with every new episode as soon as it is released. And be sure to connect with Jay Moon Fields on her website (jaymoonfields.com/) and across all social media platforms (instagram.com/heywaitwithjay/) so you can submit your questions to the Podcast. Key Takeaways: Unpacking your life is about reclaiming your power & walking through fear If this chapter of your life isn't serving you, then rewrite it Withholding your truth disconnects you from the people who need to show up in your life The fear of being misunderstood, being too much, and of starting over again Self worth doesn't need an audience You don't owe the world your whole story to be impactful Connect with Jane Bond: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/janebond___/ Unpack Your Life Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/unpack-your-life/id1789819668 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/janebondtbg/ Real Estate Website: https://www.compass.com/agents/jane-bond/ Connect with Jay: Official Website: https://jaymoonfields.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heywaitwithjay/ "Yours Truly" Coaching Program: https://jaymoonfields.com/coaching Jay Moon Fields' Book "Teaching People Not Poses": https://www.amazon.com/Teaching-People-Not-Poses-Principles/dp/1478326913/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jaymoonfields

Your First Questions & Your Second Steps | #6
Welcome back to the "Hey, Wait" Podcast, hosted by embodiment coach, educator, and author Jay Moon Fields. Each episode we'll be sharing stories, insights, interviews, and practical tools to help you shift how you show up in your relationships, and in your life. In today's episode, Jay Moon Fields returns solo to the mic, answering listener questions for the first time as she dives deeper into the essential– yet often challenging– Second Step of the "Hey, Wait" process. Emily, a listener of the podcast, recently faced an upsetting moment at choir practice when someone took her stand without asking. Many of us have been in situations where we later wished we had spoken up, asserted ourselves, or found our voice. In this episode, Jay uses Emily's story as a starting point to explore somatic experiencing– a practice that uses imagination to unlock bodily sensations– and explains how it can help Emily (and you!) move forward with more agency. As we learned in Episode One, the "Hey, Wait" process has three key steps. Today, we focus on Step 2: Pausing– the moment you stop reacting and start tuning into your inner experience. It's a deceptively difficult practice, requiring you to actually feel what's going on inside. Jay breaks it down with clarity and compassion, offering real tools to help you integrate this step into your own life. And Hey, Wait! Before you go, make sure to subscribe to the "Hey, Wait" Podcast so you can follow along with every new episode as soon as it is released. Welcome back to the "Hey, Wait" Podcast, hosted by embodiment coach, educator, and author Jay Moon Fields. Each episode we'll be sharing stories, insights, interviews, and practical tools to help you shift how you show up in your relationships, and in your life. In today's episode, Jay Moon Fields is joined by author, speaker, and founder of the Neurosculpting Institute, Lisa Wimberger. On her fifteenth birthday Lisa was–quite literally–struck by lightning. As a result of the trauma, she began to experience frequent seizures which were debilitating and which forced her to regularly confront near-death experiences. Lisa's "Hey, Wait" moment happened when she became a mother, and she realized that she needed to put herself first, so that she could put her daughter first. She began studying Neuroscience and Neuroplasticity, and she learned to train her brain and nervous system to override the seizures.
