010 || What Nobody Tells You About Homeschooling

If you could go back to your first day of homeschooling . . . the one with the beautiful planner, the brand new curriculum, and approximately no idea what you were doing . . . what would you tell yourself? Sarah shares the things nobody told her before she started homeschooling. Not the curriculum tips or the room setup advice, but the bigger picture things. The mindset things. The ones that, if you get them wrong, will make everything else harder no matter how good your systems are. This one is for the mom who is just starting out, the mom in her first few years, and honestly the mom who has been doing this for years and still needs to hear some of these again. Send it to a homeschool mom who needs it today. Links: •        Free Starter Glue-Print •        Shop all Homeschool Glue resources •        Follow on Instagram

It’s curriculum planning season, and if you’re deep in research, deep in comparison, and slowly losing your mind trying to figure out what to use next year, this episode is for you.Sarah shares her entire curriculum planning process: why knowing your educational philosophy is the only filter you actually need, how she plans family-style to save time, money, and sanity with multiple kids, the feast framework for deciding how much is too much, and the Google spreadsheet she uses to map everything out before spending a dollar. 008 || The 5 Systems Every Overwhelmed Homeschool Mom Needs

What systems do you actually have in place in your homeschool? Not your curriculum — the infrastructure underneath it. The things that keep the mental load manageable, that keep the week from falling apart, that keep you from rebuilding everything from scratch every Sunday night. In this episode Sarah walks through the five foundational systems she believes every overwhelmed homeschool mom needs: the Brain Dump, the Mental File Cabinet, the Daily Download, the Monthly Prep Day, and a Weekly Rhythm. She explains exactly what each one is, why it matters, and how to start building it — including a hint at something big coming this summer that’s going to make the Mental File Cabinet dramatically easier to set up.Links:•         Free Starter Glue-Print Guide•         Free Monthly Prep Day Canva template•        Episode 004 — Stop Rebuilding Your Homeschool Every Sunday (weekly rhythm deep dive)•        SlideBox app•        Shop all Homeschool Glue resources•        Follow on Instagram

007 || Why Your Chore Chart Isn't Working (& What to Do Instead)

Sarah posted a chore chart to her Instagram Stories without thinking much of it — and got hundreds of DMs by the end of the day. So in this episode she’s sharing the whole system. You’ll hear the full three-tier tending system she uses with four kids ages one to eleven: Daily Duties, Family Tending Hour, and Bonus Tending tasks. Plus how the Skylight calendar and a simple rewards system keep kids actually motivated, the 9:30am alarm that changed her mornings, what happens when kids whine or refuse, and how she added a brand new piece to the system just last week when she noticed something wasn’t working. Two free Canva chore chart templates are linked in the show notes — grab them and make them your own.LINKS:•        Free chore chart Canva templates•        Free Starter Glue-Print•        Skylight YouTube video•        Shop all Homeschool Glue resources•        Follow on Instagram•        Join the email list

006 || Stop Letting Summer Happen to You — Design It Instead

And if you’ve ever finished the school year dreaming of a slower pace, only to look up in August wondering where it went, this episode is for you.Sarah shares exactly how she’s planning this summer: what she’s saying yes to (swimming lessons, VBS, and a children’s theater play — that’s it), the simple weekly rhythm she’s building around Adventure Monday, Water Wednesday, Explorer Thursday, and Free Friday, and the daily anchors that make the slow parts actually happen. 005 || Why I Kept Homeschooling When Life Fell Apart

When life gets really hard, the advice is almost always the same: take a break. And sometimes that’s the right call. But in two of the hardest seasons of her life — one involving a devastating family crisis and one involving a brand new baby — Sarah discovered that stopping was actually harder than continuing. And it had everything to do with the rhythms she had already built. This episode is different from the others. No tips, no frameworks — just two honest, personal stories about what systems actually look like when life falls apart. And why building them before the hard times come is one of the most important things you can do for your family. If you know a homeschool mom in a hard season right now, send her this one.Links:•        Free Starter Glue-Print•        Follow on Instagram

004 || Stop Rebuilding Your Homeschool Every Sunday (Do THIS Instead)

If you spend an hour planning your homeschool every Sunday, that’s 30-36 hours a year rebuilding the same week over and over. This year Sarah spends about five minutes a week. In this episode she explains exactly how and why the Sunday rebuild keeps happening even after years of homeschooling. You’ll hear Sarah walk through her own weekly rhythm in detail, how she handles curriculum with a built-in five-day schedule (and compresses it to four days), and how she uses a list-based approach like Ambleside Online without having to re-plan every week. Plus a puzzle analogy that makes the whole system finally click. This episode builds on episodes one through three — start there if you’re new.Links:•        Free Starter Glue-Print•        Daily Riches curriculum (free sample week included) •        Buds, Blooms + Bees science curriculum•       Seashore Science curriculum•        Morning Menus•        Classy Artist Box (use code HomeschoolGlue for 20% off first subscription order)•       Ambleside Online (free Charlotte Mason curriculum)•        Simply Charlotte Mason•        Episode about Quiet Time•        Episode 001 — The Hidden Curriculum Running Your Homeschool•        Episode 002 — You Are Not Bad at Homeschooling•        Episode 003 — The Real Reason Your Homeschool Still Feels Chaotic•        Follow on Instagram

003 || The Real Reason Your Homeschool Still Feels Chaotic — 3 Types of Overwhelm Every Mom Should Know

Have you ever tried to fix your homeschool (new planner, new curriculum, new schedule) and wondered why nothing is actually changing? There’s a good reason for that. You might be solving the wrong problem. In this episode Sarah breaks down the three types of homeschool overwhelm — volume, decision, and emotional — and why the solution to each one looks completely different. Most moms are treating the wrong type, which is why the same fixes keep not working. Once you can name which one you’re actually dealing with, everything gets a lot clearer. This episode also includes a real-life example of subtraction in action — what Sarah dropped from her own homeschool this week and why, plus practical starting points for each type of overwhelm.Links:•        Free Starter Glue-Print PDF•        Shop all resources•        Follow on Instagram

002 || You are NOT Bad at Homeschooling

You are not bad at homeschooling. I know that might sound like something you’d scroll right past on Instagram — but stay with me. Because being bad at something and being overwhelmed by something are two completely different things with completely different causes and completely different solutions. And most of us have had them confused for a very long time.In this episode Sarah breaks down what being overwhelmed by homeschooling actually looks like (hint: it has nothing to do with being lazy or not caring enough), why the label you put on it matters more than you think, and what the real solutions are — none of which require you to be a different person or try harder at things that aren’t working. This one comes with a permission slip. But your kids are being shaped by it every single day.In this first episode of the relaunched Homeschool Glue Podcast, I break down what the hidden curriculum actually is (hint: it’s the atmosphere of your home), why it matters more than any lesson plan you’ll ever write, and what you can actually do to make it work for you instead of against you. This one is for the mom who is exhausted in a way that goes beyond just being tired. 33 || What Are You Running From in Your Homeschool?

Many homeschool families begin their journey because they realize, either before sending their kids to school or after their kids are in school, that they don't like certain aspects of the school system.  Everyone's journey is different, but many parents stay away from schools because there are things within the school system they do not like or want for their children.  In other words, they start homeschooling by running "from" something at the schools.  There is nothing wrong with this!  However, at some point, we should stop running "from" things and starting "to" something new and better.  In this episode, I break down this idea and give my own examples of things we are no longer running "from" and instead share the things we are running "to" to help you come up with your own list.  This really helps us reflect upon our homeschool journey and make adjustments so we are heading in the right direction that aligns with what we want for our kids.Homeschool Plans with New Baby Podcast Episode

32 || 5 Things I'm Struggling with in My Homeschool

If you follow lots of homeschooling accounts on social media, it's easy to feel like everyone else has it all together! However, like all social media, we usually are only seeing the "highlight reel" and not a true representation of a person's life.  I try to be very authentic and real on social media, but I also value our privacy and don't think it's good to air all my own "dirty laundry" and details about my life and my kids' lives on social media.  However, I also don't want people to think that my homeschool days go super smoothly, I find it incredibly easy, and I never struggle because that's FAR from the truth.  So, I decided to share 5 things I'm currently struggling with in my homeschool. The goal in sharing this is to show that nobody has it all together but also to show that by naming our issues we can also work toward making them better!  I hope you enjoy!

30 || How to Fit in One-on-One Time in Your Homeschool (& Why It Matters)

As homeschool parents, it's easy to assume we are already giving our kids tons of quality time because we spend so many more hours with them each day than we would if they went to school outside of the home.  But, how often are we spending quality one-on-one time with each of our children unrelated to school with no distractions?  Probably not as much as we think.  Is this even important?  Well, I'll share why I think it is!  But even further than that, I'll share some very practical (not stressful or overwhelming) ways to fit this in daily as well as in bigger ways a couple times a year!  I'll also share why this is beneficial not just to our kids but it also often pays us back in a positive way as parents!MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Family Board Meeting bookIG Post with Lots of Ideas

28 || Daily Habits for a Happier Homeschool

Because our homeschool is more of a lifestyle than a place our kids go to learn, and because we are with our children so much, it's so easy for negative moods, hard times, hard current events, illnesses, and so much more negatively impact our homeschool days.  As moms, we often are the ones who set the tone of our homes, and when we are unhappy or stressed out, it seeps into our homeschool days.  I think it's safe to say that every homeschool family aims to have a happy homeschool most of the time, but how do we set ourselves up for that to be the norm?  In today's episode, I'm sharing many different daily habits you can employ to result in an overall happier homeschool, even when we aren't feeling super happy or a lot is happening in our lives that isn't so happy.- Quiet Time Episode

27 || How to Make $$$ While You Homeschool

I recently had a spirited conversation in the comments of an Instagram reel with someone who believed that for most people, homeschooling is just impossible because both parents need to work.  I tried to explain that upwards of a third of homeschooling families are 2-parent working families to some degree, but I just couldn't open her eyes.  I decided to share ten different ways you can make a good income as a homeschooling parent - whether you already homeschool or are wanting to homeschool but have to make an income first before jumping in!  I hope this episode inspires and encourages you that it is possible to homeschool for so many families, but it will take thinking outside the box, changing things up, and making some sacrifices.

22 || How Next School Year will Change with a New Baby

We learned in late May we are expecting baby #4.  This was definitely a surprise baby as we had convinced ourselves we were happy with three kids because I get SO sick during pregnancy.  Well, God had other plans and now we are having a baby in early January!  I’m now 12 weeks when this podcast is released and despite horrible nausea and exhaustion, baby 4 is doing amazing and we are looking forward to hopefully having an easier time soon.I had a very clear picture of what our next homeschool year would look like, but having a baby in the middle of the school year definitely changed things!  So, I thought I would share what changes we will be making and some things I’m very grateful I already planned!

21 || How to Thrive as an INTROVERTED Homeschool Mom

The reality of homeschooling for an introverted mom, or just being a mom in general, with so many needs, so many sounds, so many behaviors to help regulate, so many emotions, so much touching, and being pulled in a million directions can be EXCRUCIATINGLY HARD on the hardest days if I’m being honest.  Needing time alone to recharge as a mom, especially a homeschool mom where you are with your kids usually 24/7, can be a recipe for anxiety and depression.  However, it doesn’t have to be that way.  I’ve gone through seasons of overwhelm adapting to motherhood and being home with my kids since our first child was born 9 years ago, but as someone who thrives off creating solutions to all of life’s difficulties, I want to share my top 10 tips for homeschooling as an introverted mom with you today!

20 || How We Do a Daily Quiet Time and Why We Love It

Juggling the demands of homeschooling and homemaking (and many time working) can be a real circus act sometimes if I'm being honest!  As a former daycare provider who used to watch 10 kids (including my own) 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, I got really good at structuring our days and creating a 2 hour naptime for the kids and a quiet time for me.  We have carried this practice into our homeschool days and it has been so essential to not only our success as a homeschooling family, but it has allowed me to work so we can homeschool our kids, and it's also been a wonderful break in the day for our kids.In this episode, I share why we implement quiet time, what we do during that time, and why I think this part of the day can be very beneficial to all homeschool families if they are able to make it work!

Homeschooling can be really hard.  There, I said it.  Sure, it can be magical, it leads to some amazing moments, we get to bond with our kids, we see things we wouldn’t see if they were away from us 7 hours a day.  But, it can also be really difficult at times!  I have struggled through toddler antics interrupting our lessons, bad attitudes (the kids and my own), homeschooling through incredibly trying life circumstances, feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing, and worrying that I’m not doing enough.  However, there are many changes we can make as the teachers and moms in our homeschools to make the experience easier on everyone.  In today’s episode, I’m sharing 6 things I have done to make our homeschooling journey a little easier!Check Out our Activity Bins

16 || Everything Society Believes about Homeschooling is WRONG

I’ve apparently struck a chord over on Instagram with what I guess are my controversial views on education.  I have some reels skyrocketing in views and comments that I didn’t anticipate and it has led to some – shall we say – lively discussions in the comments.  Because I can’t say everything I want to in one IG comment, I thought I would discuss 5 of the most common misconceptions that have been brought up in the comments section of my IG account recently and what my thoughts on them are.  In short, they are all WRONG and I get pretty spirited in this episode talking about them, but I'm here to give a voice to homeschool parents who receive these kinds of comments all the time. REELS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:“My Response to this comment will ruffle some feathers” “When a mom says I could never homeschool” “But your kid will be weird and won’t fit in with other kids” Join in on the discussion: https://homeschoolglue.com/blogs/homeschool-glue-blog/podcast-everything-society-believes-about-homeschooling-is-wrong

13 || How I Created My Homeschool Mom Tribe (& You Can, Too)

I went to an amazing Charlotte Mason homeschool retreat recently and am on such a high from spending my day with a few of my friends in my homeschool “tribe,” surrounded by other like-minded homeschooling moms, learning about how we can be better teachers and mothers to our kids. It dawned on me how life-giving this kind of experience is and how blessed I am to have an amazing tribe of homeschool moms. I know not everyone has that, and I certainly didn’t when I started, so I wanted to share some tips for how to find your homeschool “tribe!”I’m going to share my story of how my homeschool tribe was formed and throughout this story I’ll be sharing tips that you can apply today to start building your own homeschool tribe!I want to start by saying I’m very introverted, I’m not one to just go up to people and introduce myself, I am shy in social situations when I don’t know people, and this can be very challenging! So, don’t feel like you have to extroverted to have a homeschool tribe! I am definitely not!

12 || How to Homeschool During a Crisis

I wish I could tell you that your role as a homeschooling mom will protect you from any major hardship, crisis, or tragedy to happen to you, but life happens whether we are homeschooling or not.  I went through an extremely traumatic year last year when my dad had a horrific accident that left him unconscious with most of his ribs broken and a terrible traumatic brain injury.  Navigating spending up to 20 hours at the hospital a week on top of working, homeschooling, and general mom tasks, was exhausting mentally and physically.  Trying to support my mom as we advoacted for basic human rights for my dad in the hospital and navigated a really awful system while we tried to calm my dad and get him the best care left me with little left to give to my family.  I learned so much through this experience that I want to share to help other homechooling moms deal with a crisis.  In today's episode, I'm sharing my best tips for how to delicately make it through as a homeschooling mom when the life you had planned for a season or longer goes up in smokes and you are left in a chaotic situation.  I pray this episode will truly bless you whether you are currently in a very difficult situation or you will go through one in the future.

One of the hardest things for moms to wrap their heads around when they are thinking of homeschooing while also working is how to fit a full homeschool day in when they also have to work.  Obviously every person’s working and homeschooling journey will be different, but I want to share some of my favorite tips for homeschooling with an irregular schedule!I homeschool and run an online business, 2 Etsy shops, a before and after school daycare business, and do freelance work as well.  It’s A LOT, but it also has allowed me to stay home and homeschool my 3 daughters so I’m incredibly grateful!  Through talking to other moms who work and homeschool and also refining my schedule and systems, I’ve learned quite a few tips to make an unconventional homeschool lifestyle work and I’m going to share some of those tips with you today!MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Yoto Player (Get 10% Off Your First Order)Beast AcademyTeaching TextbooksReading EggsIEWOutschoolPeaceful Press

8 || Breaking Down Myths about Working Homeschool Moms

We all have heard countless myths about homeschooling kids and their moms even if we aren’t homeschooling families.  But, there is a smaller group within the homeschool community (which is probably larger than you probably think) that consist of two parent working homeschool families (or single working homeschool parents).  I have heard many myths about this working homeschool lifestyle and I wanted to discuss some of the myths today!  Some do have some truth to them but some just aren’t true at all for most of us.I’m sharing this so that fellow working homeschool moms feel seen and understood and also so that those who work and dream of homeschooling see that it may not really be what they imagine it to be in their head!

3 || 10 Ways to Work and Homeschool

Today, I’m sharing 10 different ways a mom can work AND homeschool. Because let’s face it, especially with the economy the way it is, groceries costing almost double what they did a few short years ago, house prices and taxes through the roof, gas prices costing an arm and a leg – we all could use extra money! But many parents who desire to homeschool don’t just need “extra” money – they need money to pay the bills! I am SO passionate about this topic because I am one of those moms too! My husband makes a decent living but it’s not enough to comfortably live off of and wouldn’t cover much more than our groceries and mortgage at this point – we definitely need additional income for when life happens, to pay our other bills, and to make a nice life for our growing children. If this is you or someone you know – I pray this episode can open up your mind to the possibilities! Please share this episode with someone who may want to homeschool but feel they can’t because they need to make money. It’s not the easiest path, but if spending more time with your kids and educating them at home is your goal, than it is worth the sacrifices you will make!MOMPRENEUR METHOD COURSE: https://www.worklifegluecourses.com/mompreneurmethod-infoEPISODE TWO SHOW NOTES: http://www.worklifeglue.com/podcast/003

    1 || 7 Sanity-SavIng Tips for Working Homeschool Moms

Hello!  Welcome to the new and improved Work Life Glue Podcast!  I am reviving this podcast that was dead and coming back with a new focus!  This podcast is dedicated to helping working homeschool moms balance the demands of motherhood with homeschool and work as well as helping moms who want to homeschool find a way to earn a living while home since that’s a huge barricade keeping many moms from homeschooling!  There will be interviews with fellow working homeschool moms and lots of tips being thrown your way so I would love if you would subscribe to this podcast! If you are new, HI!  I’m Sarah!  I’m the mom of 3 girls, currently aged 8, 6, and 3. So, a third grade, kindergartener, and preschooler.  I’ve been homeschooling technically for 3 years, but I ran an in home daycare for 5 years starting when my oldest was a baby, so I’ve always been working and educating my kids from home besides the year 2020 when my oldest did ¾ of a year of public school when she wasn’t distance learning.  I currently run a daycare program before and after schools (on no school days, etc.) in our home and then run my online business in the nooks and crannies of my day, so I’m working about 6 hours each day in addition to other pockets of time I find throughout the week.I’ve been sharing working mom tips, intentional motherhood, and home education ideas the entire time I’ve been a mom on Youtube and mainly Instagram.  I narrowed my focus more recently to really niche down and give a voice to working homeschool moms because I hear SO many people say they can’t homeschool because they need to work!  I also hear my friends who do work and homeschool cry out to me for help because it can be overwhelming at times!  So, although I don’t have a magic pill to take to make it all work out and every day to be perfectly peaceful, I do have lots of tips, encouragement, systems, routines, and ideas to share with you!I go live most weeks on Instagram and will be turning those lives into podcast episodes for those of you who don’t like to watch/listen on IG, but I’ll also be putting out exclusive podcast-only episodes every week as well!  I share a ton of behind the scenes and extra tips and ideas on Instagram though, so make sure you follow me there @worklifeglue!So, to kick off this first podcast revival episode, I just want to share 7 of my tried and true tips for balancing work with homeschool.EPISODE ONE SHOW NOTES: http://www.worklifeglue.com/podcast/001
