    Common Ground with Kartik Verma

Kartik wears the legacy of his forefathers as agriculturists on the world stage to draw attention to the perils of climate inaction. With a level of self awareness unusual for one so young, he is a Facilitator for Plastic Action with UNEP, a Youth Advocate with UNICEF,  Ambassador for Joti Foundation, BeVisioneer for Marcedes Benz, Youth Advisor for Google. I can only describe my first chat with him surreal, over a patchy wireless connection on his farm cloistered in a room with his parents on the outside. Indubitably, we had a lot of ground to cover across generations in India.

Porikolpona for Daily Wage Earners in Bangladesh

Winner of the 2023 Diana Award, the only charity set up in the memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and her belief that young people have the power to change the world !  Porikolpona in Bangla means strategy, vision, execution, plan. It was set up in 2020 in response to the pandemic to meeting the urgent needs of daily wage earners in Bangladesh.  In this episode Co-Founder Mashrur Hasan Mahee, paints for us the very real picture of how the pandemic response unfolded to protect the most vulnerable of the labor force.  Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. This episode also sets the stage for us to look at migrant labor from the lens of climate change in the coming episodes.
