After having two romantic comedies selected for him by Jess so far, Matt decided to flip one back her way. Turns out that, not only has it held up better than she could have imagined, but Jess might just have a new comfort movie. Look, overnight red eye flights are the worst. Jess and Matt both agree on this. Wes Craven's 2005 film Red Eye, however...not the worst. The 2010 Dreamworks animated film How To Train Your Dragon was one that Matt had never seen (much to the chagrin of his younger brother). There were poorly named Viking children, there were cute dragons that behaved likely puppies, and Scottish accents. One of Matt's favourite films of all time is The Apartment, and he introduced it to Jess many years ago. So for this episode, they decided to share it with their friends Kim and Jason and bring them on the podcast to talk about it! We're heading back to the 1700's where Jess is going to get a taste of the classic 1984 period piece Amadeus, a fictionalized film revolving around Mozart. She had never seen it, and Matt was not able to successfully convince her to wear a powdered wig to watch it. Good thing, because they watched the Director's Cut (which Matt had also never seen) and three hours in a powdered wig does not sound like a good time for anyone.There is, however, some stellar costuming, acting, and (of course) music to go with all of these hair pieces. Jess has seen a couple of the newer James Bond films with Daniel Craig, but never anything starring the original 007, Sean Connery. He's pretty to look at and everything, but in a spy movie made primarily for a male audience interested in spy movies and "being cool" in the 1960's...well, I think you might have an idea how Jess felt about A LOT of this one.But this just means there is lots to talk about! He would probably blame this on fantasy just not being his genre, but Jess isn't high on the genre either and she still watched the film when it came out. Steel Magnolias was HUGE in 1989 when it came out. Matt was only 7 years old, so he can perhaps be forgiven for not watching it then. His parents may not have approved of him hearing some of Ouiser Boudreaux's colourful language...There's a lot to talk about with this film! While she has seen many Pixar films, including most of the other ones released in the 2010s, Jess had never seen Inside Out. She was, however, very familiar with getting random songs and ad jingles stuck in her head for no good reason. Thankfully, this movie helped explain that!
