Why Resilience Starts in the Cloud | Myriam Fernández Martín
According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), there will be a global shortage of as many as 10 million healthcare professionals by 2030. At the same time, the healthcare sector is in the midst of a digital revolution, which, whilst offering enormous opportunities, also brings new security risks. For instance, the number of cyberattacks on healthcare organisations is rising at an alarming rate, with an increase of around 60% per year according to recent figures. Myriam Fernández Martín talks about her career, from working as a clinical nurse in Spain to her current role at AWS, where she acts as a bridge between healthcare professionals and technological innovations. She emphasises how technology, and in particular the cloud and AI, plays a crucial role in improving care processes and patient outcomes.

Tech talent gets wasted | Amber Vodegel
Why does the best tech talent end up at TikTok instead of healthcare? Amber Vodegel sold her company to Philips and took a year off. But sitting still wasn’t an option. Inspired by Rutger Bregman’s ‘Moral Ambition’, she decided to put her talent where it truly matters. The result is 28X, a femtech app for cycle tracking that does everything differently. No subscription to log your own health, no data sales, no ads. Amber explains why venture capital is bad news for consumer health apps and how she’s building a model that puts the user first. She also shares the ethical dilemmas of entrepreneurship: outsource to the US or keep jobs local? Charge for basic care or keep it accessible? A candid conversation about moral entrepreneurship in digital health.

Europe opens your health data | Martin Dorazil
What if your medical record simply followed you to any hospital in Europe? Martin Dorazil, deputy head of unit at the European Commission, explains how the European Health Data Space will make this a reality. The EHDS is built around two pillars. The first gives patients better access to and control over their own health data. You will be able to decide which healthcare provider can view your records. The second pillar opens up large datasets for research, innovation and policymaking. Researchers will no longer have to guess whether relevant data even exists. Through a European catalogue, datasets become discoverable and accessible via new health data access bodies. Dorazil emphasises that privacy protection is at the core of the entire design. A conversation about how Europe plans to achieve interoperability of health data and what that means for daily clinical practice. The ICT&health Podcast focuses on current topics that will determine the future of healthcare. These include digital healthcare, data exchange, AI, the labour market, governance and policy choices. Guests share their vision and experiences, put developments into context and identify what this requires from organisations, professionals and decision-makers.Visit our website: https://www.icthealth.org/ Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@icthealthNL
