Jacobin Reaction™

Marc Jacobin's short essays on all things.

  1. 6

    The Crimes of Cash

Currency Transaction Reports, Suspicious Activity Reports, Structuring, and Civil Asset Forfeiture are ways the government turns your usage of cash into a crime. The government hates cash. Cash is anonymous, untraceable, and uncontrollable. Those are three attributes of a free society most detested by totalitarian governments. Do we have a totalitarian government? Let us contemplate.

  2. 5

    Department of Consequences

The Department of Government Efficiency sounds like the title of a sketch from Monty Python’s Flying Circus. One can imagine John Cleese trying to navigate such an absurdly named bureaucracy that is anything but. The problem with government is not efficiency, but the lack of consequences for inefficiency.

  3. 4

    Know Your Place

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson has been accused of saying "Every woman has a duty to birth at least one able-bodied worker." Mike did not say this precisely, but did he say it in effect? How does what he really said reveal what the over-class thinks of the little people?

  4. 3

    Your Wasted Vote

You performed your civic duty by dragging your tired carcass to the polling place only to discover that your vote does not matter. Let's fix that.

  5. 2

    Post Elitist Drivel

Jeff Bezos thinks people don't trust the news because news outlets endorse presidential candidates. Isn't that cute? You can lead a billionaire to water, but he's still an out-of-touch yellow journalism plutocrat. Maybe people do not trust the news because the news is constantly pitting one group of people against the other? Marc Jacobin breaks it down.

  6. 1

    Tipping on the Balance

Both presidential candidates have promised to eliminated federal income taxes for tips. Would this result in meaningful changes for service industry workers or is just more campaign blather from politicians?
