Jaufry the Knight and the Fair Brunissende

When Taulat de Rugimon arrives at King Arthurs court and brazenly attacks one of Arthurs knights, young and ambitious Jaufry takes it upon himself to restore honor to the Round Table. Determined to avenge the affront, Jaufry embarks on a whirlwind of bizarre adventures as he tracks down Taulat. Along the way, he not only confronts his foe but also wins the heart of the enchanting Brunissende. Originally penned as an anonymous medieval verse romance in Occitan, this tale was beautifully translated into English by Alfred Elwes in 1857, following Jean-Bernard Mary-Lafons French version from the year before. Celebrated for its charm, Jaufry was reprinted in the 1970s as the 21st volume of the esteemed Newcastle Forgotten Fantasy Library. - Summary by Phil Benson
