Kaifina's Universe of Song

Imagine if you could use songwriting as a superpower to solve everyday problems in your life. Well, we have a series just for you . . .

Kaifina overcomes her obstacle of not liking Mondays by working with Mami, Pops and her brother Frankie to create a fun song about each day of the week and by focusing on how much they all love Friday.

Mami and Pops need to talk to Kaifina and Frankie about good behavior and the chores they need to help with around the house. Kaifina decides to write a verse about each of the naughty things that she has done, and Frankie helps too.

Kaifina is asked by her teacher Miss Bramble to write a song that will help her to teach the younger children at school to count all the way up to twelve. Mami helps Kaifina by baking a dozen of her famous chocolate dippers biscuits.

Kaifina likes to pretend that she is a cat sometimes and this gives her the idea to write a song about being a cat. She takes inspiration from her friendship with her cat Lucy.

Kaifina asks her Mami some big questions about life that need simple answers. Mami introduces Kaifina to some reassuring proverbs like this Japanese one, “A bird does not sing because it has an answer It sings because it has a song.” This inspires Kaifina and Frankie to write a song with their very own proverb.

In this Christmas episode the family are listening to Christmas songs when Kaifina gets the idea that they should write their very one. Frankie says, “Even though it’s a Christmas song it should sound like a summer song.” They all laugh and agree.

All of the family go to the beach for a family adventure. Frankie and Mami help a crab that gets into trouble and because Frankie can’t take Crabby Crab home with them Kaifina writes a song so that they will always remember them.

Kaifina helps Frankie to write a song about his dog Rexi. Rexi is getting into trouble with Pops for taking his socks off the washing line. Frankie wants to write a song about all the nice things that Rexi does for the family.

Kaifina is feeling lazy and unmotivated. When Pops sees her lying on the sofa, he sings in an Elvis voice, “You’ve Got the Jelly Bone Blues’ and it makes everybody laugh. Kaifina is now motivated to write a song with her band the Kool Kats.

Frankie wants to write his own song. He wants to write it in the style of a rap, ‘but it also needs to be a silly song’ he says. Kaifina thinks that this is a great idea and helps Frankie by writing the chorus, ‘Oh oh what a silly, what a silly song it’s true!’. Proud of Frankie the family dance around the house singing it.

On a trip to the beach Frankie spots a shark in the sea. The family discuss why a shark might be in the Irish Sea. This culminates in a fun and imaginative song that Pops sings about the life of shark under water and why he comes to visit Dollymount beach.

At the end of the school year Kaifina reflects on what she has learned in second class. The family discuss the things you can learn at school but all also the things that are learned in life lessons, things learned in the Universe of Song.
