This is Week One of our series "Crucible" where we are peeling back the layers of the life and times of the prophet Jonah and looking at his life through the lens of the Biblical idea and what many church fathers and sages have referenced as: the crucible. The crucible is a time in a Christian's life in which they are called, tested, purified into the type of person God desires them to be and positioned to do what God desires them to do. In this series, we see clearly from the life of Jonah a kind of negative example: what not to do! This the FINAL Week of our series "The Kingdom Code" where we explore the core foundational doctrines and beliefs of the Christian faith. This week, we're looking at our final doctrine of the series, the Doctrine of the New Heavens & New EarthThe Resurrection of Jesus Christ isn't the only radical belief that Christianity ascribes to: We believe that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is not simply the "end" of all things, but the that the Bible teaches us that it's the hinge that all reality rests. The hinge that opens the door to a brand new, and yet strangely familiar reality!   The New Heavens and New Earth are just that -- the stripping down to the core, all that Sin, evil and death have built, and the renovation of the entire earth and cosmos. All of this, for the purpose of creating a new space where humanity and God may be finally reunited. Counter to the prevailing cultural idea of "heaven", this is what Christianity actually speaks to when it refers to the "age to come." This is Week 22 of our series "The Kingdom Code" where we explore the core foundational doctrines and beliefs of the Christian faith. This week, we're looking at our 17th doctrine of the series, the Doctrine of the Final Judgment of God.Why does God have to judge?Who gets judged?What's the result of the judging?All of these questions come to the surface when we seriously consider what the Christian faith teaches about the doctrine of the Last Things. Christianity doesn't only have an answer about what we are meant to do in this life currently, it also speaks clearly to what is going to come. At first, the notion of a substitutional sacrifice seems off-putting at best to our post-modern ears. This is Week 16 of our series "The Kingdom Code" where we explore the core foundational doctrines and beliefs of the Christian faith. This week, we're looking at our 14th doctrine of the series, the Doctrine of the Humanity & Deity of Jesus Christ.Was Jesus man? or God? Or some mixture of the two? We are going deep this week. Political theory, religious history, this teaching has quite a bit of ground to cover. It's heading towards the idea that humanity all aspires to reach the everlasting, whether it be through massive political visions of the future through progress or revolution, or each moment we reach for it through satisfying needs. We all yearn for the everlasting. Jesus is the perfect union of the everlasting, become particular. It's one of the most foundational claims of Christianity: that Jesus was indeed, God's Son, raised from the dead, equal with God the Father. Jesus is the Word, who created all things, and all things come together in Him. Jesus is not only a great human teacher, He is God in flesh. Societal issues? Moral failings? These are outgrowths of an inner problem. The Christian faith has something to say to the world and its diagnosis is bleak. This is Week 12 of our series "The Kingdom Code" where we explore the core foundational doctrines and beliefs of the Christian faith. This week, we're looking at our Tenth & Eleventh doctrines of the series, the Doctrine of the Image of God and the Doctrine of Vocation. Who am I ?Firstly, the image of God might be familiar to Christians, if you've ever read Genesis chapter one, but the truest and most robust understanding of what it means to have innate human dignity, and the divine thumbprint of God upon each and every human being mostly escapes the teachings of the church. What does it truly mean to be, not an accident, or simply a cluster of cells, but made in the image of God? We tackle that massive question a little bit in the first part of this teaching. What am I supposed to do?Secondly, the doctrine of vocation or work challenges the idea that work is simply a negative thing. Some circles of christian thinking like to talk about work as a punishment, or in some circles of political schools, a tool of the oppressor over the oppressed. But this is a massively distorted view of what work (vocation) truly is. The truth is, we were created to work! To cultivate, create, mold, and expand God's good world. Even though we are marred by sin and work can be hard, we are still called to work for the glory of God. This is Week 10 of our series "The Kingdom Code" where we explore the core foundational doctrines and beliefs of the Christian faith. This week, we're looking at our Ninth doctrine of the series, the Doctrine of the Sovereignty of God. This week goes deep! We get into what might be considered one of the most difficult issues that faces the reputation of Christianity in the darkest of times: the problem of evil in the world. Why does God allow evil and suffering. If God is supposedly in control, why would He allow terrible evil to happen to good people, and why does good happen to bad people? We talk about a host of these questions and we tackle the two main views of sovereignty found in the christian world, and a third more Biblical view that we can walk forward with. Though the character of God may not fit neatly into a one sentence doctrinal statement, the Bible gives such a kaleidoscopic display of God's character, especially when directing Exodus 34. Christianity believes that God is not just eternal in name, but also in character. What iis true for God's name is true for his character. This first teaching is the jumping off points for our journey through the major foundational doctrines of the Christian faith. We discover that the idea that we are living in a reality divided down the middle between two kingdoms, is not new, but that heroes of the faith such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer, St. Augustine, going all the way back to the very words of Christ reveal that this is the task before us. We are so excited for you to join us as we rediscover what it means to encounter Jesus, and Counter the Culture.
