Painting the French Countryside with Janis Commentz

In the world of art, inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places. For artist Janis Commentz, the French countryside serves as a canvas for her watercolor paintings and a muse for her creative journey. Having originally traveled to Paris with a passion for capturing the essence of its streets, Janis now finds herself exploring the breadth of France, from the bustling markets of Paris to the tranquil retreats of lesser-known villages.A Journey Through FranceJanis’s journey across France began with a simple idea: to capture the country’s scenic beauty in a yearly watercolor calendar. Having returned to France in 2018 with only a watercolor pad and paints for ease of travel, she fell in love with the medium, creating a calendar for family and friends. The positive response spurred her to continue the tradition, making it a ritual each year. Her travels have taken her from Paris to places like La Rochelle and the small villages along the Euro Velo trails. With each new location, Janis finds fresh inspiration, whether through direct observation, such as meticulously sketching cathedral interiors, or revisiting photographs of past travels.Artistic Growth and ConnectionsThis exploratory spirit not only broadens her artistic horizons but also deepens her connections with individuals she meets on her travels. Janis recounts delightful encounters, like meeting another artist from Joshua Tree in Paris, which demonstrate the serendipitous nature of travel. Her experience emphasizes the importance of remaining open to new experiences and conversations. During her travels, Janis has learned that sometimes the most fulfilling interactions stem from spontaneous exchanges with strangers.Embracing the Art of Solo TravelJanis encourages everyone, especially older women who dream of traveling alone, to take the plunge. The freedom of solo travel allows her to make spontaneous plans and follow paths less traveled. This freedom aids in her artistic expression and gives her the courage to try new things, like experimenting with abstract street scenes using children’s watercolor sets purchased at a local Monoprix.Upcoming Ventures and OpportunitiesBeyond painting France’s landscapes, Janis finds joy in sharing her art online and building connections with fellow art enthusiasts. Her watercolor of the Musée Cluny garden was recently featured by the museum on its Instagram account, a testament to the power of artist collaborations and online community building. Janis’s creativity extends into future projects, such as a potential book based on her travels, another calendar, and an art exhibit combining her desert and French works. She also plans to attend an art residency in Provence, an opportunity that will allow her to absorb new influences and continue evolving her art.Connect with JanisFor those inspired by Janis’s journey or interested in her artwork, there are several ways to connect and explore her creations. The Art of Looking: John Kelly in Paris

John Kelly’s creative journey is a testament to the power of reinvention and the enduring pull of artistic curiosity. Born in Paris to American parents, Kelly’s early life was marked by movement and adaptation, eventually leading him to formative years in New York City during the vibrant East Village art scene of the early 1980s. There, he immersed himself in a world of neo-expressionism, punk, and post-punk influences, showing his work in local galleries and developing a style characterized by bold expression and experimentation. After a period working as a commercial artist and magazine designer, Kelly relocated to Los Angeles, where his art evolved to embrace more figurative and surrealistic elements, drawing inspiration from Renaissance masters and contemporary influences alike. Over time, his canvases shifted from large, dramatic compositions to more intimate portraits, focusing on atmosphere, subtlety, and the nuanced interplay of light and space.Settling in Paris with his family, Kelly found a new creative community and began exhibiting in renowned salons and galleries, including the Salon d’Automne and the Carrousel du Louvre. His work, often centered on live models, explores themes of the gaze, vulnerability, and agency. The “Mirror and Windows” series, for example, challenges traditional power dynamics by inviting models to turn the gaze back on the artist—and, by extension, the viewer—using mirrors as both literal and metaphorical devices.Kelly’s approach to painting is deeply collaborative, often working with the same models over many years to foster trust and authenticity. He values the energy and spontaneity that live modeling brings, while also using photographs as references for complex compositions involving fabric and movement. For Kelly, the process is as important as the product; he is candid about the frustrations and self-critique that accompany his work, viewing each painting as part of an ongoing journey of discovery.Solitude and observation play crucial roles in Kelly’s creative process. He finds inspiration in the everyday life of Paris—sketching in cafés, watching faces on the metro, and absorbing the subtle gestures and interactions of strangers. This practice of looking, he believes, is essential for any artist seeking to capture the truth of the human form and spirit. To young figurative artists, Kelly offers the advice that persistence and honest observation are key. He encourages embracing the inevitable “bad paintings” as necessary steps toward finding one’s voice, and stresses the importance of balancing external feedback with personal integrity. For Kelly, creativity is an irresistible force—a need as vital as any other. His art is both a personal compulsion and a means of connecting with others, inviting viewers to reflect on their own roles as observers and participants in the creative act.Learn more about John Kelly and view his work at johnkellyart.com, on Instagram @johnkellyart, and on Facebook at John Kelly Art. In Paper We Trust: Elizabeth Briel on Art, Process, and Creative Heritage

In an era increasingly dominated by screens and digital interactions, the tactile, intimate experience of paper is gaining newfound appreciation. For contemporary artist Elizabeth Briel, paper is more than just a medium; it is a canvas for stories that weave together history, culture, and innovation. From Asia to Paris: A Creative JourneyElizabeth has spent the last two decades traveling across the globe, immersing herself in diverse cultures, with a significant portion of her time in Asia. Her recent return to Paris marks a new chapter where she is rediscovering her artistic roots while blending traditional materials with contemporary concepts. Her work focuses on handmade paper, beeswax, and photo-sensitive inks, which are deeply intertwined with her life experiences and the rich histories of the places she’s lived in.The Allure of Traditional MaterialsElizabeth’s fascination with paper started during her history studies at university, even though her academic family saw art as an unviable career. A grant to study encaustic wax painting, a Mediterranean technique, was pivotal in her journey. In Paris, Elizabeth revisits this medium, alongside cyanotype, a 19th-century photo process, using it innovatively as an ink painting medium on large sheets of handmade paper. Her creative process involves experimenting with the urban environments she inhabits, using the architectural elements around her as printmaking surfaces. This approach reflects her identity as an immigrant, frequently adapting and drawing from her immediate surroundings.Paper: A Universal Medium with Local RootsElizabeth’s artistry is also deeply rooted in the materials she uses, often incorporating textiles and historical narratives into the papers she crafts. Drawing upon denim—an iconic fabric with a global presence—in her work, she creates papers that resonate with cultural significance. Her upcoming projects in Macau and Hong Kong will feature denim papers that explore themes like workers’ contributions to society and the cross-cultural influences in design patterns. The Living Legacy of PapermakingHistorically, papermaking has played a crucial role in literacy and cultural exchange. Elizabeth leverages this legacy by using traditional methods in modern times, highlighting stories embedded within the fibers. Her “portable river”—a papermaking machine—enables her to create pulp from textiles like cotton and linen, reconnecting with centuries-old practices.Embracing a Tactile RenaissanceAs digital media increasingly overshadows physical forms, Elizabeth sees an opportunity for mediums like paper to evolve artistically. She draws parallels with the transition from film to digital photography, suggesting that the decline of paper utility could foster an environment for creative expansion.Advice for Artists Embracing ChangeElizabeth’s extensive travels have imbued her with insights into adapting to new cultural landscapes. She emphasizes the importance of reciprocal relationships with local cultures and the reflection on one’s role and contributions within new communities. Her journey of self-discovery has led her to embrace paper as her primary medium, acknowledging its connection to her heritage and surroundings. This acceptance has sharpened her focus, allowing her to create with authenticity and depth. Elizabeth Briel’s work illustrates that while the world may move towards digital, the stories, textures, and possibilities offered by paper are boundless. Her artistic journey continues to inspire those seeking to bridge the past with the present, illustrating that even in an ever-changing world, there is always room for innovation and artistry. To learn more about Elizabeth's art, check out her art portfolio here and find more about her paper projects at her instagram here and check out her website here: http://ebriel.com. How a Paris Adventure Sparked a Global Travel Guide for Kids with Melissa Manassee

Traveling today can often feel like a creating a checklist of iconic landmarks and Instagram-worthy moments. But not for Melissa Manassee, who is breathing new life into family travel. Instead, Melissa crafted an innovative approach to exploring the world’s great cities with her Curiosity Travel Guides. Designed specifically for families with young adventurers aged eight to twelve, these interactive workbooks offer a gateway to immersion and discovery.A New Kind of Travel CompanionThe Curiosity Travel Guides are not your typical travel books. Instead of guiding families on where to go and what to see, these guides are filled with questions, activities, and ideas designed to deepen the travel experience. The goal is to encourage kids and their families to slow down, engage with their surroundings, and appreciate the cultural nuances of each destination. At their core, these guides are interactive in the truest sense of the word—not digital, but conversational. They are tools to foster communication between adults and children, helping everyone to reflect on their journey and to understand the essence of the places they visit.Moving Beyond ‘Conquer and Consume’Melissa’s philosophy challenges the traditional “conquer and consume” mindset typical of many travel itineraries. Inspired by her background in international and intercultural communication, she promotes a travel style that emphasizes curiosity and connection over speed and spectacle. Her guides provide families with the framework to explore museums, parks, and local eateries not just as tourists but as participants in a cultural exchange. Her work reframes travel as an opportunity for children to step outside their own experience—the proverbial fishbowl—and understand both the diversity of the world and their own cultural identity. This approach entices children to see familiar places with new eyes, offering activities that prompt them to serve as tourists in their own town before they venture abroad.Creating Meaningful MemoriesThe Curiosity Travel Guides not only make travel a learning experience but also ensure that these experiences are memorable. The culmination of activities and conversations become a keepsake, a tangible reminder of the young travelers’ adventures and their newfound understanding of the world. Melissa emphasizes that the true hallmark of travel is transformation. The guides encourage travelers to pause, disconnect from their devices, and engage in real-world interactions with those around them. Whether it’s a conversation at a cafe table or watching a game of bocce ball in Jardins de Luxembourg, these moments become the essence of a trip, far beyond any photograph.Enhancing Creative ExplorationsMelissa believes in the powerful link between boredom and creativity. Her guides encourage families to “go offline” and embrace moments of silence as the groundwork for imagination and discovery. They foster a child’s innate curiosity and encourage them to ask questions and explore new environments actively. This mindset not only enriches the travel experience but equips children and families with the skills to appreciate their daily lives through a creative lens—long after their suitcases are unpacked.Bringing It All HomeA significant aspect of the guides is their focus on integrating the travel experience into everyday life. Upon returning home, the guides offer a “Now What?” section, suggesting ways families can carry forward the lessons learned abroad. Whether it’s adjusting how they engage with their community or adopting a slower pace during meals, the impact of travel, as envisioned through Melissa’s guides, extends well beyond the journey itself. Her guides are available on her website, Curiosity Travel Guides, as well as on Amazon and in select independent bookstores across the country. These guides invite families to embark on a more thoughtful and rewarding travel experience—where curiosity leads the way, and lasting memories are made, not just captured. From Burnout to Breakthrough: How Creatives Can Thrive Financially with Fabienne Fredrickson

For many creative individuals, the journey from passion to sustainable income can seem daunting. Yet, navigating this path successfully is not only possible—it can be deeply rewarding. Embracing authenticity, leveraging one’s unique talents, and understanding the strategic side of business are key components to thriving as a creative entrepreneur.Embrace Authenticity in Your BusinessCreativity and authenticity go hand in hand. It’s essential to define what being authentic means to you and your business. Whether it’s the way you market yourself, the clients you choose to work with, or how you operate on a daily basis, being true to your values and strengths is critical. Marketing and business operations should reflect your personality and passion. If humor is your strength, let it shine in your marketing materials. If your passion is rooted in compassion, ensure it shows in how you engage with your audience. The 80/20 Principle: Focus on High-Impact ActivitiesA fundamental strategy for transforming creativity into leverage is focusing on activities that yield the highest results with the least effort, often understood through the 80/20 principle (Pareto principle). By identifying the 20% of activities that generate 80% of your outcomes, you can prioritize your time more effectively. This means evaluating your daily tasks and concentrating on those that significantly drive your business forward, whether it’s networking in strategic circles or creating specific content that reaches and engages your ideal client.Strategic Systems and SupportBuilding a business isn’t solely about talent and artistry. Creatives often benefit from incorporating systems and support. Delegating or automating the operational tasks that don’t align with your core talents allows you to focus more on what you love and are passionate about. This might involve hiring support for areas that are less enjoyable or time-consuming, from administrative tasks to project management, thus freeing up your creative energy for growth.Overcoming Mental BlocksMany creatives face subconscious blocks around visibility, fear of failure, or financial success. These mental barriers can be deeply ingrained but understanding and addressing them is vital. By identifying personal beliefs about success and money, creatives can begin unpicking these blocks through techniques like EFT tapping or guided meditations focused on self-growth and acceptance. It’s about fostering a mindset that not only supports but propels your business vision.Leveraging Your BusinessTo fully leverage your creative business, it’s important to move beyond being the sole operator. Focus on your strengths—your unique ‘genius zone’—and let go of the aspects that don’t fuel your passion or growth. Creating a structure where the bulk of non-creative tasks are managed by others, and exploring business models that increase reach while decreasing direct involvement, can dramatically boost performance and satisfaction.Create a LegacySuccess in the creative field is about more than financial gain; it’s about crafting a sustainable legacy. Aligning your business operations with your heart and enhancing them with strategic insight can redefine your career. Focus on authenticity, strategic activity management, supportive systems, and mindset work to transform your creative passion into a thriving business. By setting clear goals and recalibrating your approach, legacy and fulfillment go hand in hand, and your creative business can indeed thrive on every level. To keep in touch with Fabienne, check out her website here Boldheart.com or follow her on instagram here or on linkedin here. Jessica Andersen’s journey from the United States to the tranquil countryside of Normandy, France, is not just a story of adaptation, but of transformation. Here, amid the charming landscapes, Jessica discovered a path to harness her creativity and create a thriving business from her passion for storytelling and branding.Normandy and New BeginningsJessica’s decision to move to France was spurred by a love for the French language, which she studied in college, and further fueled by a personal romance. Settling in the quaint region of Normandy, she found both community and inspiration in the slower-paced lifestyle. This new rhythm offered her the space and time to explore new business ventures that highlight the essence of creativity. The Concept of Brand BooksCentral to Jessica’s business is the innovative idea of brand books. Jessica’s approach allows individuals to articulate their brand stories in a format that enhances authority and visibility. This concept is particularly impactful for creatives looking to leverage their expertise into new realms.Transforming Expertise into StoriesFor painters, writers, and other creatives, brand books serve as transformative tools. Long-form content allows creatives to delve deeper into their expertise, ensuring that their audience gains a comprehensive understanding. Jessica advocates for this method, finding it an effective strategy for those seeking meaningful and enduring connections with their audience.Publishing with PurposeJessica encourages self-publishing as a practical path for creatives with powerful ideas yet limited exposure. The self-publishing platform offers an accessible means to reach audiences quickly, bypassing the lengthy traditional publishing process. This approach ensures that valuable stories and insights are shared with the world, contributing to a broader conversation within industries.Jessica Andersen’s work with brand books highlights the potential of storytelling as a tool for both personal fulfillment and professional growth. Unscripted Canvas: The Artistic Journey of Sheila Frampton Cooper

Creative individuals are constantly transcending the traditional boundaries of art and continuously exploring the depths of imagination and expression. Sheila Frampton Cooper is no exception. Her life journey from the bustling streets of Los Angeles to the sunlit landscapes of the South of France has not only been an evolution of geography but of artistic spirit.Embracing the Creative SpiritSheila’s artistic journey began at an early age, fueled by a relentless desire to express herself. As a child, she created imaginary beings, drawing and cutting them out like paper dolls. Despite the rigid confines of her Catholic schooling, which often saw her creativity misunderstood, Sheila’s artistic spirit remained unyielded—a testament to her belief that all children are naturally creative, expressing from the heart rather than the mind.A Pivotal Moment of CreativityThe eighties marked a significant turning point for Sheila. While traveling through Europe as a young adult, she experienced a vision of her future paintings, a defining moment that would shape her artistic direction. This epiphany led to her breakthrough in creative freedom, manifesting in her large, magical paintings that brought her back to childhood memories, embodying both innocence and whimsical wonder. From Urban Energy to Nature’s EmbraceSheila’s work is an intriguing dance between her love for urban energy and nature’s tranquility. However, as she matured, her heart gravitated towards nature—a move that guided her to the serene environment of Provence. This shift illustrates the artistic duality within her; once captivated by the urban hustle, she now finds solace and profound inspiration in nature’s embrace. The Art of QuiltingIn 2009, Sheila’s artistic journey took a transformative turn with the discovery of art quilting. Initially inspired by a call to service and charity, quilting soon became not only a pastime but a profound channel for artistic expression. The quilting community, with its nurturing and heart-centered nature, offered Sheila the support and encouragement she needed to share her work publicly for the first time. Her style, particularly known for improvisational piecing, reflects her penchant for happy accidents—a nod to the influential Bob Ross. This method allows Sheila to channel her creativity without inhibition, creating pieces that surprise and elevate her artistry. On Creativity and ExpressionFor Sheila, creativity is sacred. It is the ultimate freedom and joy, a dance of possibilities that moves beyond the brain’s limited thinking. It comes from the heart, expressing what is felt rather than thought. This connection to intuition is something Sheila passionately shares in her teachings, encouraging others to open themselves to the boundless realm of creativity through accessible mediums and free expression.Finding a Path to CreativitySheila’s insights open a window into how others can unlock their creative potentials. She champions the power of play, suggesting mediums like doodling, mixed media, or inexpensive paints for those seeking to break free from creative constraints. These exercises allow for an exploration of possibilities, fostering the natural creativity that often lies dormant within us. In a world that can easily stifle creative spirits, Sheila Frampton Cooper stands as a beacon of inspiration. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the joy and freedom found in authentic expression, urging us all to embrace our inner artist and create without fear. Navigating Your Move to France: Expert Insights from Fabien of Fab Expat

Embarking on the journey to move to France can be both exhilarating and daunting. The allure of French culture, art, and lifestyle draws many to its borders, yet navigating the complexities of relocation requires expert guidance. We had the pleasure of exploring the intricacies of moving to France with Fabien Pelissier of Fab Expat, an adept specialist in helping migrants settle into their new life in France. Why France?France offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern innovation, making it a haven for creatives and professionals alike. Many choose Paris for its vibrant cultural scene, abundant opportunities, and the sheer beauty of the city. Despite the romantic allure, practical challenges like visas and accommodation can present significant hurdles. Fabien emphasizes the importance of understanding the cultural nuances and administrative requirements to ensure a smooth transition.Visa Options for CreativesFor those in the creative industries contemplating a move to France, there are several visa options to consider. Fabien highlights the often-overlooked “Artist Talent Passport,” which is arguably simpler to secure than the more commonly pursued “Internationally Renowned Talent” visa. As long as there is evidence of professional artistic activity, this option provides a viable pathway for photographers, dancers, and other artists wishing to live and work in France.Overcoming ChallengesA common misconception among prospective expats is the necessity of speaking French fluently when applying for a visa. While it’s beneficial to learn the language, especially to navigate daily life and cultural interactions, it is not a formal requirement for the visas highlighted by Fabien. Knowing this can provide relief and encouragement for many English-speaking migrants. Another challenge lies in the French bureaucracy, which often feels overwhelming due to unwritten rules and cultural differences. Having experienced firsthand the intricacies of French administrative systems through his work with organizations like SAF and CPAM, Fabien is equipped to demystify these processes for newcomers.Settling InAs exciting as it is to envision living in a quaint Parisian apartment, finding suitable accommodation is often more challenging than obtaining a visa. The rental market in major cities like Paris is fiercely competitive, a fact that Fabien recommends prospective residents prepare for ahead of time. Fab Expats offers a one-stop shop for all relocation needs, providing services ranging from visa applications to setting up utility bills. Fabien’s approach is holistic, ensuring that every aspect of the move is addressed to reduce the stress on new residents. Whether it’s healthcare, insurance, or even importing vehicles, the breadth of support available is extensive.Staying ConnectedFor ongoing support and updates, Fabien and his team provide a wealth of resources online, including social media platforms and direct consultations. Silk Secrets: Creating Timeless Scarves with French Flair: Mariló M Studio

Few artistic creations combine tradition, creativity, and expert skill like the hand-painted silk scarves created by Mariló Martin. Her pieces, steeped in French flair and inspired by her international journey, offer a unique glimpse into the artistry behind crafting luxury textiles. Whether you’re an art lover, a fashion enthusiast, or someone curious about textile making, Mariló’s story and process are sure to captivate.A Journey from Fashion to ArtMariló’s love for textiles began during her early career in fashion and textiles. She harnessed her passion for fine fabrics and painting, merging them into a career as a textile artist. Her professional journey led her to India, where she honed her craft by learning traditional painting techniques from local artisans. This cross-cultural experience not only deepened her technical skills but also infused her creations with a rich tapestry of influences from both the East and the West. The Creative Process: From Blank Canvas to MasterpieceEach of Mariló’s scarves begins as a blank canvas. The process is instinctive and meticulous. She draws inspiration from nature, museums, and photography, allowing them to feed her creativity. The painting process itself is fluid, with Mariló often starting with color exploration before knowing the final result. Trusting in her hands and creative intuition, she lets the piece evolve naturally. Once the designs are complete, the process to make the scarf wearable involves several technical steps. The fabric undergoes a preparation phase to ensure that colors do not bleed. After painting, the materials are steamed for hours to set the dyes, followed by washing to remove any excess color. Only after these careful steps is the artwork deemed ready to wear.Creating Wall Art and Ethical FashionMariló’s artistic talent isn’t exclusive to her beautiful scarves. She also creates stunning wall panels, utilizing similar techniques to those used on her scarves. By embracing the silk’s natural brightness and transparency, her panels offer a modern take on traditional Japanese kakemonos. These lightweight, airy pieces reflect the beauty of Mariló’s hand-painting skills. An advocate for slow fashion, Mariló practices ethical sourcing to limit waste and support sustainable practices. She acquires silk and wool from weavers and stocks left over from couture houses. This intentional choice ensures minimal waste while allowing her access to high-quality materials that enhance the luxury and appeal of her creations.Inspiring Creativity and ConnectionMariló believes creativity is driven by instinct and personal experiences. Her approach to textile art exemplifies a balance between technical skill and spontaneous artistry, encouraging others to find their creative identity through curiosity, experimentation, and risk-taking. She values personal feedback and views each piece as an individual work of art, reflecting the personal connection she has with her craft. For those who wish to see Mariló’s stunning work in person, she regularly displays her art at the Marché de la Création in Paris. Her creations can also be explored through her Instagram, which serves as both a showcase of her work and a point of connection for those interested in her art. Mariló Martin’s journey into the world of silk painting beautifully illustrates how art, tradition, and modernity can harmoniously coexist, offering timeless elegance to anyone wearing or viewing her stunning works. Texas to France: Colet Williams’ Guide to Cultivating Joie de Vivre Wherever You Are

In today’s world, the pursuit of joy and creativity often takes a back seat to daily obligations and never ending to-do lists. Yet, for those willing to explore beyond their comfort zones, an enriched and fulfilling life lies just around the corner. Colet Williams, a lifestyle curator and the voice behind the podcast “Eat the Damn Bread,” offers insights into tapping into one’s creativity and joie de vivre. From Texas to the French Riviera: A Journey of DiscoveryColet’s story begins in a small Texas town where she nurtured dreams bigger than her surroundings. Her aspirations led her to France, where a casual study session turned into a quest fueled by a dream of meeting Prince Andrea of Monaco. Although her romantic notion of finding a prince did not materialize, Colet discovered something infinitely more enriching—a love for the French way of life. Her travels through France, particularly the stunning regions of Provence and the French Riviera, opened her eyes to a lifestyle centered on quality, balance, and appreciation for the finer things in life. It was in a lavender field in Provence that the inspiration to create unique, immersive retreats for women first struck. Colet invites others to experience the transformative power of French culture, encouraging them to embrace life with a renewed perspective. The Essence of French Culture: Lessons in LivingOne of the key distinctions Colet highlights is the French approach to work-life balance. In stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of American culture, the French prioritize living, enjoying time with family and friends, and indulging in the pleasures of culinary delights. Colet points out that in France, work is merely a means to enjoy life’s true treasures. Additionally, the emphasis on quality over quantity is a hallmark of French culture. From exquisite food to fashion and everyday living, the French inherently value selecting the best rather than accumulating more. This mindset shift can be pivotal in elevating one’s quality of life upon returning home.Breaking the Barrier: Redefining Creativity and ConnectionColet’s own evolution into a more joyful and creative person largely stems from embracing her authentic self and shaking off societal expectations. She champions the notion of eating the damn bread—both literally and metaphorically—urging people to seize their dreams and savor life’s experiences without fear or hesitation. This philosophy resonates vividly through her retreats, where women are encouraged not just to discover but also to indulge and embark on a path of self-discovery. For those wary of the language barrier or misconceptions about French hospitality, Colet assures that a simple “bonjour” can open doors to meaningful interactions and deeper understanding. Her personal anecdotes of navigating the public transport in France and engaging with locals illustrate that a genuine effort to connect transcends linguistic challenges.Cultivating Inspiration in Everyday LifeBeyond her love for French culture, Colet draws inspiration from art, entertainment, and the design of life’s simple pleasures. Her passion for creating beautiful, stylish spaces and experiences parallels her admiration for fashion and art, all of which feed back into her creative practice. She reflects on the invaluable advice received from wise mentors, who encouraged her to listen to her inner voice and live unapologetically. This has been instrumental in shaping her journey and fostering her role as a beacon for others seeking to carve out their happiness and creative expression.Colet Williams’ story is a testament to the power of stepping out of one’s comfort zone to find passion and purpose. Her retreats continue to serve as a sanctuary for women looking to elevate their joie de vivre, offering them a taste of the limitless potential that comes from living creatively and authentically. Rediscovering the Magic of Paris’ Artistic Salons with Lauren Gardner

Paris has always been closely tied to the art and culture scene. The cobblestone streets and historic architecture of the ‘City of Light’ have long inspired artists from around the world to pursue their creative dreams. In recent years, Lauren Gardner has been working to revive of one of Paris’ most cherished traditions—the art salon— and offers a unique blend of camaraderie, art, and inspiration. The Historic Essence of Parisian SalonsParisian salons have a storied history, deeply intertwined with the city’s cultural and artistic identity. In the early 20th century, salons hosted by figures such as Natalie Barney and Gertrude Stein became hubs of intellectual and artistic exchange. These gatherings fostered an environment where artists, writers, and composers could share their work, critique each other, and promote their creations to a broader audience and are the main influences for Gardner. This exchange of ideas and the friendships formed at these salons helped elevate many artists to new heights, including the likes of James Joyce and Henri Matisse.A Modern Twist on TraditionToday, Lauren Gardner’s revival of salons brings a modern twist to this longstanding tradition. These events provide not only a space to critique and share art but also create exciting opportunities to purchase and collect artwork in a more intimate setting. Unlike traditional galleries, salons blend the critique-based environment with a space for experiencing and buying art. The focus is on creating a place where both artists and art enthusiasts—from corporate professionals to dedicated collectors—can come together in friendship and artistic appreciation.Celebrating Diversity in CreativityOne of the remarkable aspects of these modern salons is Lauren Gardner’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity. While honoring the traditional women-led hosting of salons, today her gatherings welcome both male and female artists, fostering an environment filled with warmth and creativity. The gatherings often take place in women’s homes, creating an atmosphere that is both intimate and welcoming, allowing for free expression and collaboration among all attendees.Curating Artistic TalentFor Lauren, selecting the artists featured in these salons is an evolving process rooted deeply in personal connections and friendships. She aims to bring in a diverse range of creatives, often introduced through personal networks. Selection is not limited to the quality of art itself but extends to the character and soul of the artists, ensuring that the salons become a space filled with positive energy and camaraderie.Overcoming Challenges in RevivalReviving this historic tradition comes with its own set of challenges—chiefly, finding the right space that embodies the warmth of Parisian salons. The personal, home-based setting is crucial to maintaining the essence of the salon experience. Yet, logistical challenges such as negotiating with landlords or managing neighborhood expectations often add an element of excitement to the proceedings.Future Prospects for SalonsLooking forward, Gardner’s ambitions for these salons are grand. She has a vision to cultivate a new society of art collectors by making art more accessible and removing the barriers often associated with traditional galleries. For Lauren, the dream even extends to establishing permanent salon houses in both Paris and New York, venues where artists can reside and share their work continually. As the salons continue to grow, they offer a space of authenticity and connection—reminding us of the power of art to bring people together. These gatherings are not just about admiring art but creating real, meaningful connections between individuals, artists, and potential collectors. In a world where digital interactions often prevail, the resurgence of Parisian salons provides a refreshing return to face-to-face connections, rich in artistic dialogue and shared experiences. As these gatherings continue to evolve, they hold the promise of creating vibrant artistic communities that thrive on support, inspiration, and the shared love of creativity. Creating Community: Caroline Arditti on Belonging and Artistry in Paris

Caroline Arditti, a vibrant Parisian-born creative coach, shares her inspiring insights into creativity, community, and how her experiences growing up in Paris shaped her unique worldview. With years spent in both Paris and abroad, including Australia, Caroline embodies a global perspective blended with Parisian flair.Growing Up in the Heart of ParisGrowing up in Paris, Caroline initially perceived her environment as commonplace. It took leaving and returning to Paris for her to fully appreciate its historical and artistic significance. According to Caroline, Paris is a playground of beauty, creativity, and rich history—a realization that dawned on her after experiencing other cultures.Caroline’s Creative Coaching ApproachCaroline’s journey into creative coaching stems from her extensive background in communication and events. Over her 15-year career, she realized the importance of rituals to sustain creativity, which many may not recognize as significant. Her approach to coaching involves understanding creativity as a mindset, one that can enhance everyday life beyond traditional professional or personal boundaries.Rituals to Enhance CreativityCaroline is a strong advocate for setting creativity rituals, one of which she has been religiously following for over 15 years. She initiates a weekly encounter, taking coffee (or in her case, a chai tea) with someone new each week to stay inspired and connected. This habit fosters fresh perspectives and generates unexpected ideas. Another compelling ritual is her pursuit of first-time experiences. By continuously asking herself and others, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”, Caroline encourages breaking from routine to spark creativity and inspiration.Drawing Upon Togetherness and BelongingThrough her creative coaching, Caroline incorporates drawings into conversations, asking individuals to visually represent their concept of belonging and togetherness. This exercise often reveals universal symbols of togetherness—suns, groups of people, hearts and houses—showcasing shared human connections and opening dialogues of deeper understanding.Addressing Limiting Beliefs in CreativityA significant barrier Caroline frequently encounters in her work is the limiting belief that many individuals hold about themselves—not viewing themselves as creative. This is often exacerbated by workplace demands for innovation without providing conducive environments or tools. Caroline’s workshops aim to dismantle these myths and empower people to reconnect with their intrinsic creative energy.Building Community and Finding BelongingCaroline emphasizes the importance of introspection before seeking community. By understanding one’s own values and interests, individuals are better poised to connect with others. She suggests innovative avenues such as participating in group activities aligned with one’s passions, like sports or art, and leveraging platforms that encourage social interactions. Caroline’s insights also extend to reviving creative energies through side projects. These projects serve as a means to explore passions, rejuvenate personal interests, and stimulate creative flow, potentially leading to new paths and opportunities.Defining Creativity and the FutureTo Caroline, creativity is a fundamental life source—akin to nurturing one’s soul. It’s about making oneself alive and vibrant, a vital force that complements the overall well-being beyond physical and mental health. Looking ahead, Caroline is excited about transforming her book into a live show, offering a collective experience based on her teachings about creativity and belonging. Along the journey, she lost her hearing and had only her inner resources to draw from to protect and guide her through the trying circumstances of her early life. My seven siblings and I were raised to Trust Our Vibes as a matter of survival, though I chose to use my heightened skills of intuitive perception for even greater purpose – to help others. As young as age 12, I offered intuitive readings for adults and started training with two master teachers in metaphysical arts and spiritual law. I quickly learned that doing readings alone did not solve people’s sense of lost direction as deeply as helping them reconnect with their own natural inner guidance system. At 15, I began successfully teaching small groups of students on how to tune in to their own guidance and have been ever since."New Book: Read Life Accurately: https://soniachoquette.net/read-life-purchase-bonus/WebsiteInstagram Youtube Tiktok Facebook Support the show This is a public episode. An international TEDx speaker and renowned magician, Butzi’s journey from economics to magic, and now to AI, is a testament to the limitless possibilities of creative thinking. From Suburbs to the Magic Castle: A Journey Rooted in ExplorationButzi hails from the Parisian suburbs, a detail he shares with pride, emphasizing how different it feels from the city’s romanticized center. Initially drawn to economics, his academic journey took an unexpected turn when a shoulder injury sidelined his judo aspirations. During his recovery, he discovered a passion for magic. This passion led him to Latin America, where he honed his skills, performing in hostels and eventually making a living through magic shows. In 2016, Butzi took his craft to new heights by performing at the world-renowned Magic Castle in Los Angeles. He believes that as AI tools evolve, they will not replace the human touch but will complement it, offering new methods to express and share artistic vision. He started visiting Paris in the early 1980s, initially without the intention to settle, but fate had other plans. The charm of Paris won him over, leading to his long-term relocation.Paris in the 1980s: A Time of TransitionThe Paris that Richard found in the 1980s was a city in the midst of an economic struggle and was especially difficult for young artists and dreamers. The Art of Playwriting with Anton Bonnici

The journey of discovering one’s creative passion is often filled with unexpected turns and moments of inspiration. For Anton Bonnici, a playwright and educator originally from Malta who now lives in Paris, the path to playwriting was deeply personal and intertwined with his family history. Reflecting on his experiences, Anton shares valuable insights into the world of playwriting, creative processes, and the transformative power of theater.A Creative Journey from Malta to ParisAnton’s creativity emerged early in life, with his first instincts towards playwriting came during his teenage years in Malta. His father’s involvement in theater inspired a natural curiosity, one that lay dormant until Anton moved to Paris. It was in the City of Light that Anton rediscovered his passion, by participating in collaborative theater festivals. These opportunities reignited a spark within him, driving him to dive into playwriting as a serious endeavor.Crafting Process: From Scribbles to ScriptsAnton describes his playwriting process as a dynamic, ongoing journey, one that involves drafting multiple ideas and rewriting extensively. He emphasizes the importance of drafting by hand before typing, this allows his creative ideas to evolve naturally. Over time, Anton’s process has become more refined, each play takes about a year to a year and a half to complete. The multi-layered creative process is one of juggling several ideas and projects simultaneously, embracing new inspirations, and allowing them to surface organically. The Finished Product: Knowing When It’s DoneDetermining when a play is complete can be challenging. Anton stresses the necessity of multiple rewrites and the value of conducting readings to gather feedback. These collaborative sessions inform any necessary rewrites and shape the play’s final form. For Anton, a play is finished when it effectively raises questions, provokes discussion, and resonates with audiences, all while maintaining focus on key themes without overwhelming the narrative with excessive elements.Theater vs. Cinema: Exploring Distinct MediumsThere are many nuanced differences between theater and cinema. For Anton, playwriting captures the immediacy and intimacy of live performances, fostering direct audience-actor engagement. Playwriting emphasizes dialogue and storytelling in real time, whereas cinematic scripts capitalize on visual storytelling, taking audiences into unexplored vistas through the camera’s lens. The Emerging ‘Not Theater’ TheoryWith hopes of dismantling traditional theater barriers, Anton is exploring the concept of “Not Theater,” which aims to dissolve the separation between performers and audiences. Through workshops and collaborative experiences, Anton envisions a space where theater professionals and enthusiasts alike engage creatively, breaking down the conventional walls of theater and fostering shared artistic expression.Political Engagement Through TheaterAnton Bonnici’s workshops also venture into political realms, inspired by the methodologies of Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal. Using theater as a tool for social change, Antons aims to democratize the theatrical space, encouraging active audience participation in problem-solving and discussion. This engaged form of storytelling transforms audiences from passive observers to active participants in the creative process.Encouraging Playwriting: A Call to ActionAnton encourages people to embrace playwriting as a means of expression, creativity, and fun. He dispels the notion that theater is an elite art form, urging individuals to write and perform not just professionally but recreationally, with friends and family. Theater can be an accessible and therapeutic outlet for storytelling, fostering connection and understanding.Creativity: The Human Ability to InnovateFor Anton Bonnici, creativity is the essence of human ingenuity—the ability to form new connections and envision alternatives. Creativity drives innovation, problem-solving, and discovery across all fields, including science, and remains a vital human quality. Anton encourages aspiring writers and creators to read extensively, explore diverse perspectives, and continue experimenting with new methods to nurture their creative spirit.Connect with Anton BonniciThose interested in following Anton’s work can connect with him on Instagram or check out his websites for updates on upcoming workshops and projects.
