Introduction to Human Rights in Employment Law
In this episode, we start looking at how human rights law is relevant to the topic of employment law. We consider the European Convention on Human Rights as well as the European Social Charter and the impact these two sources of international law have on employment law in England and Wales. We then consider how human rights can be enforced, including direct effect and indirect horizontal effect before moving on to what happens if human rights are breached and there is no option to appeal to the national courts, or you have reached the top court where you can appeal.💼 Support Law With Charlie – Help Make the Law Accessible for AllHi, I’m Charlie Medcalf, the face behind Law With Charlie. Save Our Juries: Observations from a Day in Court Part 2
In this episode, I follow on from my last episode at the end of my week in court and the end of the trial I was watching. Here, rather than speaking just about the specifics of the particular trial, I also consider the wider circumstances and how common these issues may be, ultimately concluding that juries are not the problem. Please do check out my YouTube Channel and like comment and subscribe there as well as subscribing to this podcast and leave me a review! www.youtube.com/@LawWithCharlie

Save Our Juries: Observations from a Day in Court
This is an unexpected and unplanned addition to my Save Our Juries series. Today, Monday, 12th December 2025, I attended a Crown Court in England and Wales, where I had the idea of recording this episode. This was because this case is a high-priority case which must be done by the end of the week. There is a jury involved in this case, but it was very clear from the very start that it was not the jury responsible for these delays! In this episode, I talk about my observations regarding what went wrong, how these delayed the process, with some discussion on why these delays may have occurred. Therefore, this episode provides me with a real-world practical example which helps further my argument that juries are very important and should not be removed from the majority of criminal trials, as the government proposes, because the delays are not because of the members of the jury. Please do like, comment and subscribe wherever you listen to my podcast. Also, please do share a review as this will help others find my podcast. Also, do check my YouTube channel, Law with Charlie.https://youtube.com/@lawwithcharlie?si=O17SpxO4gIiU46Gt

Save Our Juries: What is a Jury?
Following the news from Tuesday, 25th November 2025, about the leaked government memo suggesting scrapping jury trials for all but the most serious offences, this is the first of a number of podcast episodes which will go into detail about this news and why, essentially, I, as a law student and the legal profession more generally, are so against such a suggestion of removing juries from most trials. In this episode, I discuss what juries actually are, what they do and start thinking about why juries are so valuable in our criminal justice system. This is because I understand that even for those who have lived in England and Wales for many years, they may not understand quite what a jury is and the importance they play in ensuring justice. Please make sure that you follow my podcast so you will be notified when further episodes of this series on juries will be uploaded so you don't miss a thing.
