Heated Rivalry: When Rival NHL Stars Date in Secret
Can two rival NHL superstars carry on a secret gay relationship for years without violating a single clause of their employment contracts? Probably not.In this episode of the Let's Ruin It Podcast, three New Jersey attorneys put Heated Rivalry (2025) on trial and dig into conflict of interest between rival players, the legal weight of pillow talk and trade secrets, morality clauses and Title VII discrimination, and whether locker room slurs can rise to a hostile work environment claim. We also take a sharp real-world detour into the Mike Vrabel and Diana Russini scandal, journalistic conflicts of interest, the Coldplay CEO mess, and why the woman somehow always loses her job while the man keeps his.Hosted by Jenny (@birzlaw), Liz (@lizcalandrillo), and Diana (@mrsladydiana).Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast for new episodes every two weeks. For entertainment only; not legal advice.

The Devil Wears Prada (2006): A Toxic Boss Who Never Broke the Law
Miranda Priestly runs her office like a dictator, but did she actually break any laws?In this episode, three New Jersey attorneys put The Devil Wears Prada (2006) on trial just days before the sequel drops. From hostile work environment claims under Title VII to overtime violations under the FLSA, we dig into whether Andy has any real legal standing or just a really bad boss. We also tackle the Harry Potter manuscript scene (definitely copyright infringement), the Nigel/James Holt betrayal (probably not estoppel), and whether Emily has a workers' comp claim after getting hit by a car mid-errand. Spoiler: Miranda knows exactly how far she can push the envelope without crossing the line, and honestly, we kind of respect it. Men in Black (1997): No Warrants, No Oversight, No Problem
Men in Black (1997) is the rare film where the heroes might be committing more crimes than the actual villain. In this episode, Jenny, Liz, and Diana put the entire MIB organization on trial. We start with the big one: this agency has no government oversight, no congressional accountability, and funds itself through alien tech patents (microwaves, Velcro, possibly CDs). From there we get into the neuralyzer, which is almost certainly assault, a Fourth Amendment violation, and a mass-consent nightmare given that agents are using it on every civilian who sees something weird, with no warrant, no judicial sign-off, and no long-term safety data on what repeated memory wipes actually do to a brain. We also cover Agent J's forced identity erasure and what it means to legally stop existing, mass warrantless surveillance of every human on Earth, whether Edgar the Bug faces murder and impersonation charges under intergalactic law, whether casting Sylvester Stallone as an extraterrestrial in a sci-fi comedy qualifies as defamation, and whether an alien baby delivered on US soil gets birthright citizenship. The movie gets a 0 out of 10 for legal accuracy and a 10 out of 10 for everything else.Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast and wherever you get your podcasts. For entertainment only; not legal advice.

Speed (1994): Bombs, Bullets, and Zero Police Accountability
Speed (1994) has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and a serious police accountability problem. In this episode of the Let's Ruin It Podcast, three New Jersey attorneys put the film on trial and find more legal issues than the LAPD found body parts after that first explosion. We dig into whether Jack was legally justified in shooting his own partner in the leg, what civil claim Harry might actually have against him, the duty of care owed to bus passengers, whether the police committed gross negligence by letting news helicopters broadcast a live hostage situation, and exactly how much the city of Los Angeles owes basically everyone in this movie. We also get into the unfinished freeway gap no one bothered to check, and why Annie had absolutely no business being at that money drop. Smart, irreverent, and legally nit-picky, this one goes fast.Hosted by Jenny (@birzlaw), Liz (@lizcalandrillo), and Diana (@mrsladydiana).Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast and subscribe wherever you listen. For entertainment only; not legal advice.

Lawyers Ruin K-Pop Demon Hunters
Who is actually responsible when a K-pop group moonlights as demon hunters and brings supernatural chaos to every concert they play?We had no idea we would have this much to talk about, and then we started talking and could not stop. In this episode, we dig into whether Huntrix has any employment contract covering the demon-slaying side of things, who bears liability when your headliners are secretly attracting supernatural threats to packed concert venues, and whether Rumi's half-demon status creates a legal duty to disclose to her bandmates and business partners. We also get into K-pop "slave contracts," workers' comp for demon-related injuries, trade secret theft via spirit animal, and whether killing a demon in human form is technically homicide under US law. It is lawless, it is a cinematic masterpiece, and we absolutely ruined it. Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast.For entertainment only; not legal advice.

My Cousin Vinny (The Greatest Legal Movie That Breaks Every Rule)
Everybody says My Cousin Vinny is the most legally accurate movie ever made. Three attorneys just watched it. They have notes. This week, Liz, Diana, and Jenny take on the 1992 Joe Pesci classic — and yes, the cross-examination scenes are genuinely brilliant. But between the fake credentials, the Miranda violations, the discovery disasters, and a fiancée dragged to the stand as a hostile expert witness, Vinny is also a walking bar complaint.Mona Lisa Vito won an Oscar. She would not have been qualified. The crew debates this at length. The hosts rate the film's legal accuracy, argue about grits, and answer the most important question of the episode: is this actually the best legal movie ever made, or are we just grading on a very generous curve?Follow us on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts: Let's Ruin It Podcast

There's Something About Mary (And A Whole Lot of Crimes)
Happy Valentine's Day! 💘 Nothing says romance like stalking, fraud, and a man who gets shot mid-narration.This week, Liz, Diana, and Jenny take on the 1998 Farrelly Brothers classic There's Something About Mary — and honestly, they lost count of how many crimes happen before the first date. We're talking PI misconduct, fraudulent misrepresentation, disability fraud, and an entire cast of men who are dangerously obsessed with one woman. Mary is perfect. The men around her? Legally speaking, a disaster. The crew rates the film's legal accuracy (spoiler: it's somewhere between a 0 and a 1), debates which Ben Stiller movie is actually the best, and asks the most important question of the episode: What IS it about her?Send us your next movie recommendation — we're running out of ideas and Liz is tired of arguing about it.Follow us on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts: Let's Ruin It Podcast

Groundhog Day: Can You Commit Crimes With No Consequences?
If you relived the same day forever, would the law still apply? In this episode of the Let’s Ruin It Podcast, three New Jersey attorneys put Groundhog Day (1993) on trial. From theft and assault to kidnapping, fraud, and suicide, Phil Connors commits an impressive number of crimes, yet faces zero consequences thanks to the time loop. But does that mean those crimes don’t count? We dive into criminal liability in looping timelines, consent by deception, mental health commitments, multiverse theories, and whether redemption after decades of wrongdoing actually means anything. Along the way, we ask the real question: is Phil Connors a better man by the end or just better at hiding his crimes?Smart, irreverent, and legally nit-picky, this episode turns a beloved classic into an existential courtroom nightmare.🎙️ Hosted by Jenny (@birzlaw), Liz (@lizcalandrillo), and Diana (@mrsladydiana)📱 Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast⚖️ For entertainment only; not legal advice.

Primal Fear: Why This Trial Would Collapse on Appeal
Primal Fear is a phenomenal movie with a legendary twist, and one of the most legally inaccurate criminal trials ever put on screen. In the Season 3 premiere of Let’s Ruin It, three New Jersey attorneys break down everything that would never happen in a real courtroom: surprise evidence mid-trial, discovery violations, questionable ethics, and a defense attorney who somehow becomes an investigator, vigilante, and moral philosopher all at once.We dig into attorney-client privilege, prosecutorial obligations, expert testimony gone wrong, and why no judge would ever allow half of what happens in this case. Acting? Incredible. Law? Completely unhinged. If you love courtroom dramas — or scream at your TV when movies get the law wrong — this one’s for you.👍 Follow, subscribe, and leave a review to help us ruin more movies.

Love Actually Is a Legal Nightmare
It’s the Season 2 finale—and the last episode of the year—and we’re closing things out by ruining a holiday classic. In this episode, we put Love Actually on trial and ask whether love really is all around… or if most of these characters should be talking to HR and their attorneys instead. We break down the Prime Minister’s workplace decisions, unrequited love gone wrong, power imbalances, romantic gestures that cross legal lines, and one airport scene that absolutely could not happen in real life. Along the way, we debate whether these moments are sweet, creepy, or straight-up unlawful. Some stories still work. Others have aged like expired eggnog. If you love holiday movies, legal chaos, and smart-but-slightly-unhinged analysis, this episode is for you—and a perfect sendoff to the season.🎙️ Hosted by Jenny, Liz, and Diana of Let’s Ruin It Podcast.Follow us on Instagram @letsruinitpodcast and subscribe for more legal takedowns of your favorite films.

Shrek: Legal Chaos in the Swamp
Shrek may be a perfect movie, but legally? It’s a full medieval dumpster fire. This week, the attorneys dive into everything happening beneath the swampy surface — from Farquaad’s mass eviction scheme to the ethics of imprisoning a child in a tower for twenty years “for her own good.”We break down whether Shrek and Farquaad actually formed a valid contract, whether rescuing Fiona counts as kidnapping, and whether Fiona’s rush-to-the-altar plan qualifies as marriage fraud. Plus: dragon liability, inter-species genetics, hybrid offspring law (don’t ask), and about four separate tangents into Twilight and Harry Potter legal lore.Hosted by Diana, Jenny, and LizSubscribe, rate, and send us the next movie you want legally destroyed.

American Beauty on Trial: Ending Explained & Legal Fallout
We’re ruining American Beauty the only way we know how—by indicting it. With guest Corey Chichizola, we unpack Ricky’s illegal filming (privacy/wiretapping), whether adultery still matters in no-fault divorce, how domestic violence can affect support, and why the final minutes don’t mean what you think. Then we play detective: who actually faces charges after Lester’s death, and what evidence holds up? Along the way we talk rose petals, the infamous “plastic bag” moment, and the messy reality of suburban criminal liability—minus the movie’s convenient metaphors. Content note: sexual misconduct, homophobia, domestic violence, murder.Corey Chichizola: https://www.instagram.com/myasoul/If you enjoyed this one, follow/subscribe and leave a review so other movie nerds find the show.

Death Becomes Her: Murder, Potions & Product Liability
What happens when a miracle anti-aging potion meets actual law? In Death Becomes Her, we pull apart the crimes and liabilities under the glam: murder vs. conspiracy, “legal death” vs. medical death, malpractice exposure, and whether a secret youth serum would be treated like a consumer product with warnings. We also dig into why the movie’s camp and body horror still land, and how its over-the-top scenarios make perfect law-school hypotheticals.Enjoy the show? Journalist Corey Chichizola joins us to dissect the film’s pitch-black mockumentary style and the surprisingly rich pile of legal issues hiding under all that Aquanet. We break down how a rigged contest actually works, why “everyone got food poisoning” is not a fair tiebreaker, and what kinds of claims (negligence, fraud, breach) might stick in the real world. Along the way, we celebrate the movie’s quotable menace, its cult-classic staying power, and the scenes we can’t stop re-watching.Guest: Corey Chichizola (journalist) — @myasoulIf you enjoyed this episode, follow the show and leave a review—then tell us what to ruin next.
