Yunis Dekow loves stories. From a young age, he has been captivated by them—telling, hearing, and reading them. Now, as a journalist, he is dedicated to uncovering and sharing some of the world’s most untold and overlooked stories. His commitment to truth is unwavering, and he doesn’t shy away from personal risk to find the answers that matter.Born on September 19, 1996, in Garissa, Yunis grew up in a comfortable suburban town. He studied locally before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nairobi. Despite his upbringing in relative comfort, he remains more interested in the lives of those who lack the privileges and security that many take for granted.Yunis is drawn to regions across Africa where democracy is fragile, security is uncertain, and the rule of law is often contested. He is fascinated by the courage of people who stand up to corrupt governments, defend their land and rights, and fight for a better future for their families and communities.His work is driven by a deep curiosity and empathy for those living in difficult circumstances. Yunis sees storytelling not just as a profession but as a responsibility—a way to shine a light on resilience, inspire change, and amplify voices that deserve to be heard.
