Hello, this is Lifesci101, the first UofT lifesci podcast. In this podcast, we go over some common U of T life science courses. In each episode, we will go over the syllabus, student experience, and if possible, we invite the professors or course coordinators to share their tips on how to be successful in the course.

  1. 6

    CHM136- Introductory Organic Chemistry I

In this episode, we discuss CHM136, an introductory course in organic chemistry that is often a significant step for life science students. We share our experiences tackling the course content, from understanding chemical reactions to mastering molecular structures, and offer tips for managing the challenges that come with it. Whether you're preparing for CHM136 or looking for advice on how to approach organic chemistry, this episode provides helpful insights from our own journey.

  2. 5

    BIO130- Molecular and Cell Biology

In this episode, we explore BIO130H1: Molecular and Cell Biology, an introductory course that delves into the fundamentals of cell biology. We share our insights on how to effectively study for this course and navigate its complex topics. Additionally, we had the opportunity to talk with Parham, a recent student of BIO130, who shared his experiences and tips for succeeding in the class. Whether you're just starting out or looking for advice, this episode offers valuable perspectives on mastering BIO130.

  3. 4

    PHY131- Introduction to Physics I

In this episode, we take a deep dive into PHY131, an introductory physics course, with special guest Professor Jason Harlow. As a faculty member in the Physics Department at the University of Toronto's St. George campus, Professor Harlow specializes in physics education research and is responsible for teaching one of the largest physics courses in Canada. We had the privilege of discussing the structure of PHY131, its unique challenges, and how it sets the foundation for further studies in physics.

  4. 3

    PSY100: Introductory Psychology

In this episode, we explore PSY100, the introductory course to psychology, with a special guest: Professor Waggoner. An alumna of the Psychology Department and a graduate of the Psychology Research Specialist Program at U of T, Professor Waggoner now teaches PSY100 along with courses in Statistics and Social Psychology. We had the privilege of speaking with her about what makes this course such a key part of the psychology curriculum. We’re also joined by Kian, a former PSY100 student, who shared his personal insights and experiences from the class.

  5. 2

    BIO120 - Adaptation and Biodiversity

In this episode, we dive into BIO120, a foundational course in ecology and evolutionary biology that most life science students encounter early in their academic journey. We discuss the course structure, share insights from our own experiences, and offer tips for navigating its challenges. Whether you're just starting your life sciences path or curious about what BIO120 entails, this episode provides a helpful overview.

  6. 1

    CHM135- Chemistry: Physical Principles

In this podcast, we go over CHM135, one of the common courses among first-year life science students. We also had the chance to have Professor Quinlan( one of the CHM135 Professors) as our guest, and she gave wonderful insights and tips regarding how to be successful in the course.
