Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Madison's Story | Lights of Recovery Episode 10
Guest: Madison PriceTitle: Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Madison’s StoryWhew, we made it to episode 10! Today, Madison and I chat about her journey from social drinker to spin queen, and how reexamining her relationship with alcohol became her motivator for change.Madison is the perfect example of a lot of us in recovery: for many people, losing control over drinking or other substance abuse doesn’t always look loud or messy. Sometimes, it’s in the subtle ways we start to see it sabotage our success and rob us of joy.We recorded this awhile back, but everything we discuss is timeless. (Plus time travel is cool!) It’s also wild to see how much MORE we’ve both grown since we sat down to record this together. Thanks for joining me, Madison. This was a special one for me. <3=======Be my next guest on Lights of Recovery! Email me: [email protected] =======Produced by Chris Carberg and Michael MoeschCopyright 2026. 08. From Junkie to Judge: Mary Beth's Story
Mary Beth talks about her addiction and recovery journey through her memoir, From Junkie to Judge: One Woman's Triumph Over Trauma and Addiction, which I had the sincere pleasure to read before we sat down together! It’s hard not to gush or give away too much of her story, but when I say I admire this woman for what she’s endured, conquered, and built, that’s not me being dramatic. She’s such an inspiration on so many levels. She battled her addiction to IV meth use by facing her childhood trauma and took her recovery into her own hands as an atheist woman who felt like there wasn’t a recovery program that fit her own values and beliefs. I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did! 07. Recovery as Self-Care: Ashley’s Story
Ashley and I met to chat about her battle with booze—including how it started and why she left drinking in our past. Her story reminds me a lot of some of my own experiences with alcohol. The way it creeps up on you, the self-loathing, the weird “gotta-drink-but-don’t-wanna” feeling… And how do you eleven get out of it once you realize it might be an issue? Does it always take crashing and burning to realize you need help? We can’t wait to have you hang out with us for this one! Episode Extras: Books by Thich Nhat Hanh, specifically The Miracle of Mindfulness (Ashley’s fave) and You Are Here (my fave) Author rec from Ashley: Anne Lamott App rec from Ashley: iamsober Follow Ashley: YT: @potentializestudio IG: @potentializestudio Follow Jess: IG: @anotherfoolishmortal ======= Be a guest on Lights of Recovery! 06: Taking Recovery One Day At A Time (ODAAT): Jeremy’s Story
I am so stoked to talk to Jeremy Webster, founder of ODAAT Apparel, entrepreneur, designer, father, and all-around good dude. How does a person go from a problematic drinker to the owner of a recovery-celebrating clothing brand? Turns out Jeremy’s path covers A LOT of ground—literally and figuratively! We talk about a ton of stuff, like Japan, fatherhood, dangerous secrets, the power of family, crazy coincidences (you won’t believe where his new office is located…), and clothing for a cause. 05. From “Monster” to Spartan: Dylan’s Story - Lights of Recovery Episode 5
Guest: Dylan T. Rosenthal I can’t believe it took until episode 5 to have a guy on the podcast! (It was worth the wait though you guys.) Dylan and I chat about what it takes to get sober, the spiritual aspect of recovery, and the mental fortitude that goes into being a Spartan Race finisher (!!!) as well as a person in recovery. This was a fun chat—I mean, they all are, but this one was a lot of fun. I am thrilled to share this episode with you guys. - Jess Follow me and subscribe, maybe? Ok love you bye. 04: Maricay's Story: Definitely, Totally NOT an Addict | Lights of Recovery
Addiction is something that happens to other people, but not to us! Right? Maricay and I talked about substance abuse, death, grief, witchcraft, childhood, authenticity… and we might’ve even cried a little. 02: Jessica's Story - Pouring Out The Past - Lights of Recovery Episode 2
In this episode, I sit down with Jessica Foutz, my long-term friend (and incredible human being), to get into the details of her recovery story. We chat about self-medicating, trauma, cycle-breaking, and how the social acceptance of drinking might be leading a lot of us to fall into a spiral of anxiety, self-loathing, and fear. 01: Ashley’s Story - Second Chances & Nine Lives
Welcome to our inaugural episode of "Lights of Recovery," a podcast that brings to light the real, raw stories of struggle and triumph in addiction and recovery. In this episode, our host, Jessica Miller, engages in a heartfelt conversation with Ashley Mullins Sayre, who shares her harrowing yet inspiring journey through addiction, incarceration, and ultimate redemption. Ashley's story begins with the trials of adolescence, where a search for acceptance led her to substance use at just 13. This podcast episode delves into her transition from occasional marijuana use to a debilitating addiction to opiates and methamphetamine. Ashley speaks candidly about the complexities of addiction, highlighting how it's often not a choice but a trap that individuals fall into. What makes Ashley's narrative so compelling is not just her descent into the throes of addiction but her extraordinary path to recovery. After a decade of substance abuse and two stints in prison, Ashley found the strength to reclaim her life. This turning point, marked by a profound sense of readiness to change, is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to turn your life around. A significant part of Ashley's recovery story is her bond with a stray cat she named Little Mama. This unexpected relationship offered her a sense of purpose and responsibility, crucial for her healing process. Ashley's story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the human spirit's capacity for recovery. Join us on this journey of hope and transformation. Ashley's story is not just about battling addiction; it's about the power of second chances and the beauty of finding light in the darkest places.
