    Second and Third Generation Migrants

The Second and Third Generation Migrant Experience: Navigating Identity In this episode, I dive into the experience of growing up as a second-generation migrant in the UK, with Pakistani roots. Like many others, I struggled to find a place where I truly belonged. I spoke the same “proper” English as my peers, yet my skin color and cultural background made me feel like I was always standing out. The trauma of constantly being reminded that I was different—whether it was my appearance or my heritage—shaped much of my childhood. Being British and Asian felt like an identity no one could quite understand, and there was no one ahead of me to show the way. I had to carve out my own path. One thing that helped me navigate the complexities of these intersecting identities was my faith. Being Muslim gave me a sense of purpose and direction, even when I felt lost in between two cultures. I’d love to hear your personal stories, too. If you’ve experienced similar struggles or found ways to make peace with your identity, please share your thoughts with me. Let’s explore how we can support each other in embracing all the parts of who we are. With love and Salaam Noor
