Lure of the Labrador Wild

The Lure of the Labrador Wild recounts the gripping expedition of adventurer and journalist Leonidas Hubbard as he embarks on a challenging canoe trip through the Naskaupi River system, Lake Michikamau in Labrador, and the George River in Quebec. Accompanied by his friend Dillon Wallace, a New York lawyer, and their Indian guide George Elson, the journey quickly becomes fraught with difficulties. Mistakenly navigating the shallow Susan Brook instead of the intended river, the trio faces exhausting portages and dwindling supplies. On September 15, at Windbound Lake, they make the heart-wrenching decision to turn back. In a desperate attempt to find food, Wallace and Elson set out, leaving Hubbard behind in a tent. Tragically, Hubbard succumbs to exhaustion and starvation shortly thereafter. Wallace becomes lost in a snowstorm while Elson, through incredible resilience, reaches civilization after a week in the wilderness. A search party ultimately rescues Wallace on October 30, 1903.
