Fat Fat and All Dat Nonsense
Jen and Phil talk about recent reports on a weight loss shot geared towards children. They believe this could lead to other health problems and is generally a terrible idea. What is truly a major component is the example set by parents. Parents should set the example for their children to be disciplined, to put in the hard work to eat properly, to set boundaries/limits for unhealthy items, and to ultimately help their children return to a healthy weight/lifestyle. As with most things in life, there is no quick fix. You have to do the work. Before getting stuck on medication, they suggest maybe first do an evaluation of your lifestyle to see what positive changes you can make to improve your health. It is important to dedicate time to ourselves to have a healthy mind and body. Get in on the conversation and let them know what you think. Thanks for Listening. Battling Cancer, Life and Legislation (Julie Stokes)
In this episode of Make It Count, Jennifer and Phil talk with Julie Stokes about her journey through politics, surviving breast cancer, and making it count through her cancer advocacy. Julie Stokes is CEO of Flame Consulting, CFO of Stokes & Associates, Founder of Ellevate Louisiana and Co-Founder of the Cancer Advocacy Group of Louisiana. She is a CPA, a nonpartisan policy advocate, former state representative, a civic leader, and a speaker. Julie was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and after a nine-month battle she was declared and remains cancer-free. She turned her personal fight with cancer into a legislative mission by becoming an advocate for patients and survivors; she believes that we should never place a patient’s life in jeopardy because of bureaucracy. Besides legislation she has helped to pass, Julie is Making It Count through the Founding of Ellevate Louisiana, which is an organization of women leaders around the state of Louisiana working together to make non-partisan solutions to build a better future for Louisiana. For more information go to EllevateLA.org Julie is also the founder of SCAN (Survivor’s Cancer Action Network). SCAN is a private social network that unites cancer survivors, doctors, scientists and philanthropists to improve the patient experience and ultimately drive outcomes for cancer care in the state of Louisiana.
