Burland - No Food For Lazy Man (feat. Zongo Abongo) - OUT NOW!
"No Food for Lazy Man" is a catchy feel good Afrobeats tune with a message of working hard to achieve what you need. The song was born out of a recorded jam between British producer Burland, keys player Joel Stevenson, guitarist Josh Valters and Antonio Roldao on drums. An instrumental arrangement was formed and sent to Ghanaian MC Zongo Abongo, who after hearing it for the first time, jumped on a studio session that very same day to lay down the evergreen hooks and deliver the powerful message. Zongo’s message is that: “just because some people tried and they failed, they think it’s not possible for others to win. They try all means to discourage you from achieving your dream, they can’t do it so they discourage others from trying. So this song is to inspire hope to the hopeless... work hard to achieve your dream regardless of the difficulties you have to go through and never listen to those trying to discourage you because there is no food for a lazy man". Energetic, fast paced and raw, "Do Something for Yourself" provides a more dancefloor oriented b-side to the slower, softer "No Food for Lazy Man". Burland & Zongo Abongo met for the first time at the Meet Me There festival in Ghana (2018). Zongo was hosting the festival and delivered serious inspiration during his live set with The Busy Twist, who later introduced Zongo to Burland. There was an instant connection, discussing collaboration and sharing tunes. Born out of the same sessions, "No Food For Lazy Man" is the follow-up to their "Tell Me Why You Worry" EP, released on Mawimbi Records in 2019.

Mawimbi "Best of 2021" Mix @ Rinse France
We put together a selection of some of our favourite tracks released or reissued in 2021 and compiled them into a mix for Rinse France! As always, this mix is as eclectic as can be! It includes music by personal heroes such as DJ Koze, Nu Genea, Voilaaa and Mdou Moctar, as well as beautiful tunes by friends such as Yeahman, Village Cuts and Onipa ... and some of the music we released this year! From South African cosmic folk to melancholic Colombian folklore, forgotten Djibouti club sounds, Haitian amapiano, Napolitan disco hits, raving music from Niger, Malian electronic crossovers... Of course we could not include all of our favourite music, some choices were obviously made, hopefully for the better! We want to thank all of the artists and record labels who have made 2021 another fascinating year of music, it really helped us through the year. « Get a room! sur le TrAnSmEtTeUr » (Radio Nova), épisode 57 avec le collectif Mawimbi
This month we've had the honour and luck to be invited again on our beloved @laradionova. This time we prepared a very special mix for @Getaroomofficial's show "sur le TrAnSmEtTeUr"! In this mix, we tried to dig a little deeper and put the focus on patient listening, rather than riding on the usual club sounds. This mix has a psychedelic vibe, drawing from afro-jazz to dub, via malombo and afro-brazilian grooves. It features tunes by Kutiman, Supergombo, Thabang Tabane, Heliocentrics, Hector Zazou, among others. Try it! Drop a comment if you need a track ID :)

Mawimbi - Ngana (Feat Fatim Kouyaté)
👉Listen on Deezer, Spotify & co: kuronekomedia.lnk.to/Bubbling 👉Listen and buy directly from the artist at Bandcamp: wearemawimbi.bandcamp.com/album/bubbling Eight years deep into their existence, Paris-based Mawimbi are proud to present their debut album “Bubbling”. Through their own label and events, the collective have championed up and coming artists who look to fuse african music with the modern dancefloor. They’ve released records from Lya, Onipa, Afriquoi and James Stewart and brought established artists and fellow travellers to such as Auntie Flo, Africaine 808, Awesome Tapes From Africa and Esa to Paris. Now it’s time for the collective to unveil their identity as producers and musicians in their own right. “Bubbling” refers to the many ideas, encounters and projects that the collective have come into contact with over the past years. Through their events and their work as label curators and remixers (for artists such as Oumou Sangaré, Blick Bassy, Cerrone, Onipa), Mawimbi have become known as ambassadors for “afro-electro” - whatever that might mean - and their debut album buzzes with the contagious energy of the music they love. If you ask Mawimbi, Afro-electro is about global and local inspiration, from both sides of the Black Atlantic. It’s about paying tribute to the forefathers and the brothers and sisters in arms across the world. Afrobeat, highlife, South African bubblegum pop, Malian music, maloya… “Bubbling” seeks to connect geographically separate but spiritually similar club sounds. Hence “El Caribe” (feat. Ghetto Kumbé) is half cumbia, half Carribean dancehall, while “Ngana” (feat. Fatim Kouyaté) has some elements of dub music and “Kakraa” (feat. K.O.G) nods to disco‐infused Ghanaian productions from the 70s. Despite the influences, this is a record designed for home-listening, a nod to our present circumstances, but also a deliberate step away from dancefloor. A moment of patience and reflection as much as joy and celebration. Above all, “Bubbling” is a personal record, about unexpected cross-pollinations and the collective’s individual explorations of these musical territories. Mawimbi's own history is one of coincidences and chance encounters, and so is “Bubbling”. All the collaborations were born out of the connections made over the last 8 years. A WhatsApp chat with Zambian artist Mufrika, a spontaneous studio jam with Ghetto Kumbé in a Parisian Basement: these are captured moments of real, vital connections made. Like Mawimbi itself, “Bubbling” is a collage of relationships and shared experiences, shaped by nascent friendships and musical encounters. It’s a truly DIY document in that sense, the sound of the last eight years of the Mawimbi adventure: free spirited, passionate, warm and generous.

Mawimbi - Kugombe (feat. Mufrika)
👉 Listen on Deezer, Spotify & co: https://kuronekomedia.lnk.to/Bubbling 👉 Pre-order Limited edition 12" on bandcamp https://wearemawimbi.bandcamp.com/album/bubbling This is the first time Zambian master musician Edward Mwanza, also known as Mufrika, collaborates with a European producer. When Adrien (Mawimbi) came across a video of Mufrika playing subtle melodies on his self-built kalimba, he was truly mesmerized. He reworked the song into an emotional, upbeat dance track and sent it to Mufrika. New vocals were recorded and a truly unique collaboration was born. 👉 Listen on Deezer, Spotify & co: https://kuronekomedia.lnk.to/Bubbling 👉 Pre-order Limited edition 12" on bandcamp https://wearemawimbi.bandcamp.com/album/bubbling

Mawimbi - Fôli Kadi (feat. Fatim Kouyaté)
>> Spotify, Deezer, Bandcamp : https://kuronekoMedia.lnk.to/FoliKadi Following up on their collaborative single with Colombian trio Ghetto Kumbé, released in November 2020, Parisian collective and record label Mawimbi unveils another extract from their debut album, to be released in June, 2021. Although it definitely sounds like “afro electro”, a genre Mawimbi has been championing since their debuts as a DJ collective, “Fôli Kadi”, their second single in collaboration with Malian artist Fatim Kouyaté (Midnight Ravers), offers a more intimate and melodic profile, drawing in the inherent melancholy of Mandingue music and the power of contemporary pop music. "Fôli Kadi" has some of the essential features found in Mawimbi's debut album. In its musical content on the one hand, as it plays on a subtle balance between a dance beat and emotional melodic content, which gradually rises and ends in a cascade of kora and cymbals. In its history too, because more than any other tracks on Mawimbi's LP, "Fôli Kadi" owes a lot to the meetings and opportunities gleaned by the collective over the last five years. Their collaboration with kora player Chérif Soumano and singer Fatim Kouyaté was made possible by Lyon-based producer Dom Peter, leader of Franco-Malian project Midnight Ravers and manager of Blanc Manioc. "Fôli Kadi" was made "here and there", through chance encounters and the sharing of musical vibes - for example, Soumano's kora line was recorded in one take as he was passing by the studio to send his greetings. "Fôli Kadi" translates to "music feels good" in bambara, a language widely spoken in Mali! Drums by Romain Vignaud, recorded at Red Bull Studios Percussion by Yannick Van Ter Beek Kora by Cherif Soumano Vocals by Fatim Kouyaté Bass, keys & production by Adrien Colle (Mawimbi) Written by Adrien Colle, Chérif Soumano & Fatim Kouyaté. Produced and arranged by Adrien Colle. Mixed by Nicolas Taite. Mastered by Cem Oral @ Jammin Masters. Artwork by Michaël Sallit.

Radio Mawimbi #68 w/ Modrums (Zona Libre / New York)
@morgan-greenstreet aka Modrums is a drummer, DJ, journalist and radio producer based in New York City. He’s a resident DJ of Terapia & Verbena champeta party with DJ Elkin Pautt and Zona Libre with dj tres dos. modrums approaches his DJ sets with an ear to the sonic footprint of the African diaspora, drawing on an impressive collection built from his years as a radio producer and a musician and shaped by his frequent travels through Europe, West Africa and the Caribbean. He plays with a sense of tension and release, emotion and humor, merging roots, retro pop and current aesthetics into a singular experience of communal joy. We were initially planning on hosting the show alongside Morgan aka Modrums, but it turns out Rinse France had other plans that day. So instead we had a couple drinks, discussed life, records, music, amongst other things ... and Morgan was kind enough to go back to Rinse France the following day at 10 am to record a show on his own! The mix is a super tasteful, eclectic mix of African and tropical music, from zouk to Malian classics, through roots desert music, colombian palenque music, soukous, funana, kwaito and other super danceable tunes! Thanks again Morgan ;) http://morgangreenstreet.com/ https://www.instagram.com/modrums9/

Onipa - I Know (Oslo Roma Remix)- FREE DOWNLOAD
FREE DOWNLOAD : https://theartistunion.com/tracks/aeceba 💿🔥 PRE-ORDER OPEN MY EYES REMIXES >> bit.ly/OnipaRemixes << 💿🔥 ORDER ORIGINAL VINYL INCL. 3 REMIXES : 💿🔥 >> bit.ly/openmyeyesbandcampFR << Exploding onto the scene with their September 2018 ‘Open My Eyes’ EP, Onipa are rapidly making a name for themselves with their original, innovative fusion of afro grooves and electronics and explosive live show. This remix EP brings together a diverse range of creative responses to the original material, incorporating house, UK garage, afro funky, wonky hiphop and leftfield electronica. Famous for their mashups and bootlegs of legendary artists from Oumou Sangare to Tito Puente on their own Persie Edits label, and resident at London’s infamous Percolate parties, Krywald and Farrer keep all the afro bounce of the original ‘Woza’ while extending it into a proper uplifting dancefloor filler. French producer Mr. Boom brings a decidedly UK garage influenced treatment to EP title track ‘Open My Eyes’, swapping the afro disco optimism of the original for a dark, hoods-up, London night-bus influenced late night sound. South London Newcomer Marot has been carving out his own niche in bass-driven afro sounds. Here he brings a UK-funky, bassline driven take to ‘I Know’, adding a demented, carnival flavour to the dark tone of the original, complete with warped dark sounds and messed up whistles like some kind of acid-driven Buraka Som Sistema. Original Onipa producer Tom Excell brings a heavily West-Coast, Flying Lotus-influenced rework of the original ‘Baala’, totally changing the tempo to create a completely different kind of track from the original. Dream Diary label boss Oslo Roma finishes off with a deep, low-slung, gnawa-influenced rework, keeping the 6/8 feel and edgy, melancholy style of the original with the addition of a hypnotic bassline and dreamy, majestic pads. Loya - Zenfant

Loya - Corail LP (Minimix)(Out Now)
Loya - Corail LP 👉 Vinyl on Bandcamp : https://bit.ly/2KphepV 👉 LP on Spotify, Deezer, Itunes & co : https://kuronekomedia.lnk.to/LPCorail Loya is a new project by French producer Sébastien Lejeune which allows him to research his own cultural heritage, as a native of La Réunion, as well other tribes, bands and singers originating from the Indian Ocean. For the past five years, Loya has been exploring the musical environment of the sister islands of the Mascarenes (Indian Ocean), breaking down the boundaries between electronic music and traditional music in a globalized world. Growing up in the great melting pot of La Reunion, Loya was exposed to a number of cultures and rhythms that fueled his curiosity. Walking in the footsteps of Ti Fock and other pioneers of electric maloya, he was quick to tap into the rough materials of his native island, from tamarind wood to corrugated iron, to bring out a myriad of sounds. Settling in metropolitan France in the mid-90s, Loya’s first encounter with electronic music happened upon discovering acts such as Autechre, Plaid and Boards of Canada. Soon, Loya was drawing from Intelligent Dance Music and bleep techno to build complex rhythm arrangements and ethereal melodies. Throughout this research, Loya gradually managed to tame the erratic nature of his machines to summon states of trance that reminded him of the music he grew up listening to as native of the Mascarene. From this route through the meanders of contemporary electronic music, Loya developed a trademark sound based on triple time beats, pointillist sound design and a taste for experimentation. Such distinctive features can already be heard on his first self-produced album "Eruption", released in 2014 and the EP "Indian Ocean", released in 2016 on Mawimbi Records, although “Corail” is his most accomplished work and a testament of his clear talent. Exploring the blue depths of the Indian Ocean with the fluency of a native, the ten compositions of "Coral" unfold like an archipelago. Showcasing the talents of traditional musicians such as Mauritius ravanne icon Menwar and Madagascan accordion master Régis Gizavo (R.I.P), “Corail” finds a fine balance between the soft, velvety ripples of modular synthesizers and the rawness of frantic percussion motifs and local field recordings.

Radio Mawimbi #52 - Lusophone Music Special w/ Mike Stellar & Bertrand MWB 🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳
"After receiving the kind invitation of Mawimbi to make this podcast it became clear that it was a good opportunity to showcase some portuguese music, from old to new. Our folk heritage is quite rich and has not yet been properly explored. I took a non linear approach, with tracks from different decades and styles that somehow have this "portuguese" feeling present. Exception for the last track, that opens our connection to Brasil, but was recorded for a portuguese label." @mike-stellar (Lisboa) 🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳🇵🇹🇧🇷🇦🇴🇨🇻🇬🇳 Mike Stellar : É o mar que nos chama - Fausto (1982) Bird - João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Mario Franco, Samuel Rohrer (2017) Reflexos_Movimento Circular - Bernardo Sassetti Trio (2010) Lembra-me um sonho lindo - Fausto (1982) Azul É O Mar - Carlos Bica (1996) 03 Vira - Lavoisier (2017) Ohxalá - Rasus Montes (2018) Ir_e_vir - GAC_grupo_de_acção_cultural_(1976) Movimento Perpétuo - Gaiteiros De Lisboa (2003) O Sono - Shelter Av. Radio Mawimbi #50 : Mawimbi "Best of 2017" Mix
Here's our live mix, recorded at DJOON! We played our favourite club tracks from 2017 as well as a number of forthcoming tracks on Mawimbi Records in 2018! A nice chance to hear what we're cooking up for you :) Feel free to ask for track IDs! Sorry for the low quality rip, this is a 160 kpbs file extracted from our video live stream at Djoon, but we really wanted to keep it this way as it translates well the vibe of our mix.
