MHW 002 | New Name, AEW Grand Slam, & Shinsuke Nakamura

Promo: I had to change the name of the podcast. I was Heelface, but it turns out someone else is already using that name for a wrestling podcast, so I needed to come up with a different name. I thought about it and had a bunch of ideas, but I’ve settled on Me ❤️ Wrestling. * The story about the sticker behind the name.* Am I being ironic? * The use of Hart as a homage to Bret Hart. The 1, 2, 3: Where I talk about three things going on in the world of professional wrestling that have caught my attention. * During AEW Grand Slam, when Mox used a stomp, the crowd was singing Seth Rollin’s song! I really like moments like this because they show that wrestling belongs to us, to the fans. * From Ringside News NXT viewers are above 800,000 two weeks in a row. I think this shows how smart it is to use people like Becky Lynch & Dom Dom to get people interested in what is going on at NXT, and to get their eyes on talent that has yet to make it up to the main roster. * After Eddie Kingston’s win over Claudio Castagnoli at Grand Slam, I’ve got an icy-cold-take for you: Eddie Kingston is the Dusty Rhodes of this day and age. Why do I say this? Because, in my opinion, Eddie and Dusty are both ultra-charismatic wrestlers that people can relate to in a way they can’t relate to. * (An honorable mention) The MJF homage to Bret Hart at Grand Slam was great! The Heel Cause of Desire: Highlighting something a heel is doing that I think is great: Shinsuke Nakamura.* What makes a good heel? They have to make us, the fans, want to watch more wrestling. * How do they do this? By making us want to see something but then preventing us from seeing it. * In addition to this, Shin is creating… is building… what I think of as some of the best in-ring psychology I’ve seen in a long time. * It is also a story that makes sense; it is consistent, and I buy it as a logical thing that a smart person would do (unlike, say, Jimmy Uso super-kicking Jey Uso). * Shin is not the most physically dominant person on the roster, but in this story, he is not trying to be! If he is smart about how he wears down Seth, he does not want to be stronger, faster, or better than Seth. This podcast is not brought to you by: I don’t have sponsors, but I know of some cool stuff I want to tell you about. * This Episode of Not Sam Wrestling, where Sam Roberts talks about the next chapter in WWE, as it becomes a subsidiary of TKO is really good. MHW Episode 001 | 19 Sept. 2023

Hi there. This is the Me ❤️ Wrestling podcast, and I’m your hose Neil Gorman. Today, I’m here for two reasons: To talk about wrestling and chew bubble gum… and… wouldn’t you know it… I’m all out of bubble gum. The 1, 2, 3: A segment where I talk about three things1. The WWE & Australia show — This shows WWE is moving in a direction — Becoming the main wrestling promotion in the world. I think this is what we will see more of now that WWE is TKO. 2. Jade Cargill — NXT or main roster? I think I’d put her on NXT and use that to get her tangled up with Rhea Ripely. 3. MJF and Steiner Math — Did you know that the origin of the Steiner math promo (which should be on the Mt. Rushmore of promos) was when Scot Steiner was going to face Samoa Joe at Impact? The Undercard: 1. CM Punk’s latest — Love him or hate him… This guy is someone who understands the attention economy better than anyone working in wrestling today. The Mid-Card: Where I talk about someone or something to pay attention to. 1. Zelina Vega — I’ve noticed subtle things changing with her. I think the LWO is posed to launch into a new chapter of their story. 2. Samoa Joe — I love this Samoa Joe! The Main Event1. AEW Grand Slam tomorrow — I think it is so fucking cool that AEW does events like this, and they are on TV! This is something that WCW did when it launched Nitro, and it made a difference in Nitro becoming the show that beat RAW in the Monday night ratings wars for 83 weeks. This is a public episode.
