Alexander Proelß and Wolfgang Wurmnest analyze the landmark Advisory Opinion of 21 May 2024 on climate change and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) handed down by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS). The Tribunal has ruled that States Parties have the obligation to protect and preserve the marine environment from climate change impacts and ocean acidification (due diligence standard).
