Mergen Ilishkin, About Gal Tyalgn
Mergen says that gal tyalgn is a ritual during which people make offerings to their ancestors. In Tibet there is a similar ritual called ‘a fiery offering to the spirit on the hill.’ In Kalmykia all rituals have been mixed up with one another. During this ritual, people make offerings with three ‘white’, three ‘milk’, and three ‘sweet’ foods. The ritual is completed by reading a prayer in Kalmyk. During the ritual it is also mentioned that the recipients are our ancestors, the spirit of Chingis Khan, the spiritual protectors of clans and people.
