    Bridging the Funnel Gap

OPINION: You’ve seen it before: a business coach or funnel guru draws a beautiful diagram on a whiteboard. Boxes, arrows, traffic sources, email sequences — a flawless funnel map. But when it’s time to build? Crickets. The Funnel FallacyAt a recent mastermind call, someone finally said what many were thinking:“I pay $30K a year for someone else to touch ClickFunnels.”Another chimed in:“Same. Haven’t logged in for two years.”These are people teaching “funnel mastery.” Yet, they avoid the builder like the plague. Why? Because they’ve learned the hard way what most entrepreneurs eventually discover:The gap between strategy and implementation is where dreams go to die.You can understand funnels perfectly. You can sketch a brilliant strategy. But implementation? That’s an entirely different skill set — one that’s tedious, highly detailed, and incredibly easy to mess up.Why Implementation Often FailsBuilding a working funnel isn’t a single action. It’s a 50+ step process involving integrations, tags, automations, page logic, and more. A single misstep — a forgotten tag, a broken link, a mistimed email — can destroy your results:* Miss one automation: leads disappear.* Configure one tag wrong: sequences break.* Fail to test properly: payments go unprocessed. This leads to stress, confusion, and lost money. And worst of all — angry prospects asking:“Did you get my payment?”“Why didn’t I receive the thing I bought?”The Common Solution (and Its Cost)Many entrepreneurs do the logical thing: delegate. They hire tech teams, funnel builders, or VAs to handle the setup. But here’s the catch:* $30,000/year to avoid tech headaches.* $2,500/month for peace of mind.* $600/week just to not think about it.For high-revenue businesses, that’s fine. But for most entrepreneurs, that cost eats their entire margin. They’re forced to touch the tech — not because they want to, but because they must.Three Paths to Funnel ImplementationHere are the main options for getting your funnel built:* Do It Yourself (DIY)* ✅ Full control* ❌ Time-consuming, technical, error-prone* Hire Experts* ✅ Fast, polished results* ❌ Expensive, ongoing dependency* Use a Pre-Built System* ✅ Fast, affordable, scalable* ✅ Allows customization without reinventing the wheelA well-architected template or system can reduce your workload by 80–90%, letting you plug in your content instead of building everything from scratch. How to Choose the Right Path for YouAsk yourself:* Do I have more time or money right now?* Am I comfortable troubleshooting tech?* Is this funnel central to my business growth?* Can I afford $2,000+ a month for technical help?If the answer to most of these is “no,” a pre-built funnel system may be your best next step. Conclusion: Close the Gap, Reclaim Your TimeThere’s a growing frustration among entrepreneurs: the space between vision and execution. The gap between “what I want to build” and “what actually works.”Funnel success isn’t just about ideas — it’s about execution. Understanding your options, planning for implementation, and choosing the right support model are critical to converting strategy into income.Let your funnel be a launchpad — not a roadblock.MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. Don't Trade Blind

OPINION: That helps one avoid the usual mistakes: entering late, trading without confirmation, or ignoring what the crowd is already doing.Even solid setups can go sideways if you miss what the crowd is doing. These mistakes are easier to avoid when you check sentiment first.* Mistaking silence for safetyNobody's talking about the pair—no analysis, no news. Some see that as a safe entry, but it often signals uncertainty.Check sentiment to get a clearer picture. A 50/50 split can suggest indecision. If one side starts building, it might indicate an upcoming shift.* Reading breakouts without contextThe price breaks resistance—you buy. But if sentiment shows most traders are already long, it could be a fakeout or the end of the move. Check if the crowd got in before you—or if you’re following the first wave.* Overrelying on indicatorsRSI says oversold, MACD crosses up—it looks like a buy. But if sentiment shows traders are still heavily short, it might not be time yet. Use sentiment to see if the crowd agrees or is still going the other way.Sentiment adds context charts miss—see what other traders are doing before you act.* Why you need sentimentMarket sentiment is the percentage of traders who are buying or selling an asset. It helps you understand what the majority expects: will the price go up or down?By watching market sentiment, you can see how the crowd is trading. Knowing if most traders are buying or selling can help you decide whether to go with the trend or take the other side. You can also catch trends before they form - when sentiment shifts quickly, it often signals a breakout or reversal. Use that moment to open or close your position.MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. MYEG Partners with MyDigital ID Solutions to Establish Malaysia's Digital Identity Ecosystem

PETALING JAYA - 2 months ago on January 25 2025, Malaysia's leading digital services company MY E.G. Services Berhad ("MYEG") announced a strategic collaboration with MyDigital ID Solutions Sdn Bhd ("MYIDSSB") to establish a blockchain powered national digital identity ecosystem, the MyDigital ID Superapp. The Web 3 Platform will be built on Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure, and is expected to mark a major advancement in the battle against online fraud. The Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure — a national initiative under the National research & development agency, MIMOS — is believed to be able to safeguard online security and combat fraud. This is especially important to a country like Malaysia, where scams continue to wreak financial and emotional havoc across the country. In fact, the recent State of Scam Report 2024 revealed staggering losses of RM54.02 billion (US$12.8 billion) over the past year. This figure, equivalent to 3% of the nation's GDP, underscores the pressing need for stronger countermeasures against fraud. It has also become a regional problem. Further afield, cyber scammers in Southeast Asia stole up to $37 billion in 2023, with a significant rise in AI-driven crimes. This has led to increasing calls by thought leaders and policymakers at various China-ASEAN ministerial events for the establishment of interoperable digital standards and blockchain-based identity verification systems to safeguard online security and combat fraud as well.MYEG believes that it is well-placed to handle this. Through its Layer 1 public blockchain network Zetrix, it believes it offers the most comprehensive global ID solution, providing support for not only MyDigital ID, but also digital IDs of Chinese nationals and business entities as well as the World network's World ID.Its confidence has led the MyDigital ID Superapp to be a platform that offers a comprehensive suite of tools, including an ewallet, news broadcasting, and an open innovation software development environment for businesses and service providers to leverage MyDigital ID.By leveraging the national MyDigital ID, companies can seamlessly integrate digital identity verification for direct logins into their existing mobile applications or offer their services as miniapps within the Superapp. This integration eliminates the need for multiple authentication systems, streamlines onboarding processes, and enhances customer experiences, ultimately reducing costs and increasing operational efficiency.Critics are still doubtful whether it can deliver on the promise - data leaks has been a constant in Malaysia, with the occasional news that another local telco has found its consumer details shared on the Dark Web in some forum or the other. They question the timing of the exercise, noting that a lot more needs to be done to tie up the existing loose ends in data security in Malaysia in the first place.Adding to the mix the fear of many Malaysians that online transactions are rarely safe, and local banks famous for scam-like practices themselves, there is a concern that adoption by Malaysians will not be as positive as it is being hoped for. Zetrix co-founder Dato' Fadzli Shah is undeterred. He believes in blockchain technology being able to manage security issues due to its inherent technologically complex safeguards. In the press release issued then, he stated: "MYEG's collaboration with MyDigital ID Solutions marks an important step forward in enhancing Malaysia's digital landscape and meeting the need for interoperable national digital IDs. This platform will simplify access to digital services while maintaining the highest standards of data security and user privacy. At the same time, it will enable businesses to unlock new opportunities and streamline their operations in the digital age."MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. Want to know what real leadership looks like?

OPINION - We’ve got some serious leadership heavyweights in Malaysia. Here are 3 Malaysian leaders who mastered key leadership laws—and what you can learn from them:* Tony Fernandes (AirAsia) – The Law of Buy-In* Lesson: People follow the leader before they follow the vision.* Before AirAsia became Asia’s biggest budget airline, it was drowning in debt.* When Tony Fernandes took over, he had something even more important than capital—buy-in. His team believed in him before they believed in the turnaround.* Built trust first, then sell the vision.* Lead by example, work alongside employees.* Create a culture where employees feel valued.* Takeaway: If your team isn’t excited about your vision, the problem isn’t the vision—it’s your leadership. Win trust first, THEN lead.* Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong (Genting) – The Law of Navigation* Lesson: Leaders see the road ahead before others do.* In the 1960s, he dreamed of building a casino resort on a mountain. People laughed, called it impossible, and said no one would go.* But great leaders see the future before anyone else does.* Planned years ahead, not just months.* Took risks based on vision, not short-term thinking.* Built what others couldn’t imagine.* Takeaway: Stop focusing only on today’s revenue or next quarter’s KPIs. Plan for the next 5 years, not just the next 6 months.* Datuk Nicol David – The Law of Process* Lesson: Leadership is built daily, not in a day.* Datuk Nicol David didn’t become the longest-reigning squash world champion by luck. * She followed the Law of Process—mastery comes from small, daily improvements.* Trained like a machine, consistently.* Relied on discipline, not talent.* Kept improving, even when she was at the top.* Takeaway: Leadership is a muscle. If you don’t train it daily, you’ll lose it. Small, consistent actions create long-term success. What Can You Learn from These Leaders?* Big visions require big trust. Earn it first.* Plan long-term. Leadership is about navigating the road ahead.* Consistency beats talent. Growth happens daily, not in one-time efforts. These leaders weren’t lucky—they followed proven leadership principles. And the best part? So can you.MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. "Demon child" Nezha: How he captured the hearts of global viewers

BEIJING, Feb. 21, 2025 - As the little boy with his two dark eye circles goes viral, the Chinese animated film "Ne Zha 2: Demon Child Conquers the Sea" has become the biggest blockbuster five years after its prequel was screened. First becoming the highest-grossing movie in China and even Asia, then climbing up the ladder at the global box office, the animation has made its name before all the Hollywood-made highest-grossing movies.Last week, "Ne Zha 2" made its way into offshore cinemas, setting new records with each passing day. Those who have watched it proved it to be worth the experience. 138 Chinese home-grown animation teams pooled efforts and weaved over 1,900 special effects shots, and more than 10,000 special effect elements, presenting the audience with meticulous yet grand spectacles. Strengthening the prowess is craftsmanship: Creative teams took about six months to finish the storyboard for one minute of motions; a saber was iterated about 200 times, taking a year and a half to perfect…The quality animation work is also rooted in unique Chinese culture. For example, the story set that Nezha and Aobing, the two leading characters were seemingly born to oppose each other, yet their fates were intertwined, implying the Taoist philosophy where yin and yang generate and counteract with each other, forming a dialectical unity. On character design, the boundary guardian beasts were inspired by the golden and bronze masks excavated from the Sanxingdui and Jinsha Ruins. Even for its background music, unique folk music was adopted: The Grand Song of the Dong ethnic group was used to help express an ethereal feeling, and throat singing (Khoomei), a traditional art form of the Mongolian ethnic group was used to help strengthen the gloomy atmosphere. These are yet to be the most appealing part.In "Ne Zha 1," the "demon child" Nezha was faced with prejudices and misunderstandings, while he shouted out the iconic line "I'm the master of my own destiny." In its sequel, the boy fought against oppression and unfairness with his life for what he wanted to guard — "If there's no path ahead, I will forge one out!" Such spirits of fighting against oppression and sticking to what's important were also embodied in Aobing and numerous other characters in the film. When the characters from different clans with various identities joined forces to stand against what's imposed on them, the most genuine and intuitive power spilled over to real life — combating one's destiny and pursuing self-value is instinctive to human will, immune to differences in cultures, nationalities or identities, which strikes strong resonance in filmgoers. Many among the audience also shed tears for the most sincere and selfless love from Mother; many felt great sympathy for Shen Gongbao, who worked diligently but never got what he deserved; and many have different understandings but are equally touched by the "youthful passion" of Nezha and Aobing who attempt to change the world. One can say, the quality animated production and the profound culture it crystallizes are what glittered the movie, but what really brings the work to the global audience's hearts, is the common pursuit of humanity, which was penetrated throughout the story. If you get a chance, go learn the story of Nezha. I bet you will love this naughty kid. This post is sourced from : http://www.china.org.cn/video/2025-02/21/content_117726744.htmMISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. HONG KONG - Completed two months earlier than originally planned, the completion marks another significant milestone following the Ready for Service of the ADC wet segment last November.Over the past eight years, no new submarine cables had been brought into operation within Asia-Pacific. As such, industry has eagerly awaited the launch of ADC capacity.China Telecom Global Limited, leveraging its leadership role as Co-chair of the ADC Consortium, took a proactive approach by coordinating closely with all consortium members and suppliers to overcome unexpected challenges and difficulties. This in turn has significantly alleviated the strain on existing submarine cable resources. India's First dedicated LGBTQIA+ Philanthropy Fund, The Pride Fund, launched

MUMBAI - Godrej Industries Group (GIG), Radhika Piramal (Executive Director, VIP Industries & Trustee, Dasra UK) and the Keshav Suri Foundation, in collaboration with Dasra, earlier this week, announced the launch of India's first dedicated LGBTQIA+ philanthropy fund, The Pride Fund. Dasra and Godrej DEI Lab, an experimental space committed to creating an inclusive ecosystem within and beyond the GIG, will serve as the anchor partners for this initiative to cater to the community which is estimated to number more than 140 million people. The funding landscape for queer philanthropy in India is stark: only one of India's top 50 donors explicitly supports LGBTQIA+ organizations, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions remain negligible. While global funding for LGBTQIA+ communities is growing, India barely participates or benefits from these philanthropic efforts.Despite these structural barriers, and in the face of considerable prejudice, queer organisers and grassroots activists have made landmark efforts for their communities. Non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations, born out of these movements, do their best to confront vital challenges for LGBTQIA+ communities, including access to healthcare, livelihoods, justice, and dignity. The Pride Fund aims to offer greater support to these organizations through grants enabling their work, with a view to improving the future of LGBTQIA+ Indians throughout the country.Commenting on the launch of the fund, Parmesh Shahani, Head of Godrej DEI Lab, said, "The Pride Fund is a historic milestone— a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, created by queer community members, for the community. This fund embodies our shared vision of equity and inclusion by directly addressing the systemic barriers that have long marginalized LGBTQIA+ individuals. With only 27% of NGOs serving the community having a national presence, through targeted support and resources, we aim to empower communities to access safety, health, justice, and opportunities that have been denied to them for far too long. We hope to build a stronger, more inclusive society that truly embodies the spirit of a Viksit Bharat, one where every individual, irrespective of their identity, can thrive with dignity and pride."Radhika Piramal, Executive Director, VIP Industries & Trustee, Dasra UK, added, "The Pride fund is being launched to raise awareness and resources for LGBTQIA+ communities in India. With international aid drying up almost overnight, our Indian corporates and foundations must urgently step up to fill the funding gap and fund NGOs who help vulnerable queer people access safety, justice, health and dignity. Let's all come together to support some of our most creative and innovative communities and help India thrive.""The Pride Fund is more than just a financial commitment—it's a revolution in how we invest in India's LGBTQIA+ future. At the Keshav Suri Foundation, we've always believed that true change happens when passion meets purpose, and this fund is a testament to the power of collaboration. India has always believed in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and now, we are ready to lead the way for the world. With like-minded partners, we are bridging the funding gap, ensuring that queer-led organizations get the resources they deserve. Inclusion isn't charity; it's a necessity. Together, we're not just making a difference; we're setting the stage for a future where every LGBTQIA+ individual in India thrives with dignity, opportunity, and, of course, a little fabulousness!" said Keshav Suri, Executive Director, The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group & Founder, Keshav Suri Foundation. At the launch of The Pride Fund, Dasra released a report titled – 'Against All Odds – Advancing Equity for India's LGBTQIA+ Communities,' which studies the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+-focused organizations in India, and recommends solutions to overcome barriers, and prioritize responsive approaches co-created with the community.Commenting on the report, Neera Nundy, Co-founder & Partner Dasra, said, "India, home to 18% of the world's population, receives under 1% of global LGBTQIA+ funding, leaving this cause critically underfunded. The pioneering Pride Fund takes a collaborative approach to tackle this imbalance by supporting queer-led organizations driving change at the grassroots level. By empowering these leaders, we're not just meeting immediate needs but securing long-term impact for a future where every LGBTQIA+ individual can thrive."The Pride Fund aims to create transformational change for India's LGBTQIA+ community through patient and intentional philanthropy. With a focus on impact-driven solutions and increased attention to the needs of marginalized communities, it strives to chart a new path toward equality and inclusion in India.About the Godrej DEI LabThe Godrej DEI Lab, housed within the Godrej Industries Group, works on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion both within the Group and across corporate India. It was founded in 2023 and is headed by author and senior corporate leader, Parmesh Shahani.About the Godrej Industries GroupThe Godrej Industries Group (GIG) serves 1.1 billion consumers, globally, across businesses in diverse industries, including consumer products, real estate, agriculture, financial services and chemicals. Uzbekistan's Saneg turns flared gas into fuel

TASHKENT - Uzbekistan faces the dual challenge of making its energy supply more secure and more sustainable. A prominent natural gas producer in the Soviet era, the country now grapples with declining production, forcing it to rely increasingly on imports to fuel its growing economy. At the same time, it is under rising international pressure to address emissions from its oil and gas sector.Driving progress on both of these fronts is an initiative led by Uzbekistan's largest independent oil and gas producer, Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (formerly Jizzakh Petroleum until November 2021), known as Saneg for short. In March last year, the company launched a €14mn project in partnership with Switzerland's Vema, Norway's ICA-Finance and Uzbekistan's Geo Research & Development Co. (GRDC), to reduce flaring of associated gas produced at its key oilfields, by processing and feeding this gas into the national transmission grid. Saneg has since completed and commissioned 70 km of gas pipelines and 21 modular compressor units across the Northern Urtabulak, Sardob, Shurtepa, Eastern Tashly, Northern Shurtan, Yangi Karatepa and Turtsari fields, with the capacity to handle 70mn cubic metres of methane each year, CEO Tulkin Yusupov said in a recent interview.By capturing and using this gas instead of flaring it, Saneg has already extinguished six flares, cutting its annual carbon footprint by nearly 140,000 tonnes of CO2. The recovered gas is now used to generate energy, as well as extra revenue for the company."We strive to introduce the best available technologies that ensure the efficient and careful use of resources and reduce the anthropogenic load, for the transition to a green economy," Yusupov said.Vema's director, Mikhail Partikevich, hailed the project as testament to Saneg's commitment to environmental responsibility. "This successful implementation strengthens the position of Uzbekistan internationally as a state that implements advanced solutions in the energy sector," he said. The newly installed compressors provide gas compression at pressures between 5 and 40 atmospheres, while ultrasonic gas flow meters and specialised equipment ensure precise measurement. The project was initiated and financed by Vema and ICA-Finance, which also conducted pre-project studies and oversaw implementation. GRDC developed technical documentation, while Saneg handled construction. Building on this success, Saneg is now planning a similar project at the Shirkent field, working with Vema to assess flared gas volumes and develop a technical solution.Saneg also partnered with Vema and ICA-Finance on a leak detection and repair (LDAR) campaign at its assets last year, using modern analytical systems and drones to prevent over 83,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent methane emissions annually – a reduction comparable to removing 20,000 cars from the road. Methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 but has a shorter atmospheric lifetime, meaning that action taken today on emissions can help combat global warming faster. Thanks to that work, Saneg became the first company in Central Asia to register a programme to cut methane emissions at its production assets, with Germany's Emissions Trading Authority. The initiative was developed according to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology, created by the European Fuel Quality Directive (FQD).Saneg established itself as a key oil and gas player in Uzbekistan after securing rights to 103 previously state-owned oilfields in 2019. Issued the rights for geological exploration and extraction, its operations account for about 80% of oil production in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The company employs over 5,000 people and has production facilities in Karshi, Mubarek, Fergana and Andijan. It has since boosted oil flow from the fields' mostly mature reservoirs, and acquired an oil refinery. Though primarily focused on oil, Saneg has also managed to more than double the fields' natural gas output by 2023, to almost 1.3bn cubic metres, even as national production declined. It aims to raise this to 3bn m3 in the future, partly by exploiting tight reservoirs underneath conventional formations. This post is sourced from : https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/uzbekistans-saneg-turns-flared-gas-into-fuel-302360957.htmlMISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. Boosting Yeast Protein Production to Meet the Growing Global Demand for Alternative Proteins

YICHANG - Angel Yeast (SH600298), a global leader in yeast manufacturing, has officially completed the topping out of the main plant for the industrial yeast protein production project at Baiyang Yichang, which will boost an annual output of 11,000 tons, a milestone of Angel Yeast's sustainable protein development strategy.Traditional protein production, from cereal and legume cultivation to dairy farming, is time-consuming and may struggle to meet future demands for quantity, quality, and sustainable supply. Therefore, there is an urgent need to innovate large-scale, low-cost, and high-quality protein production methods. Angel Yeast has achieved the breakthrough to extract proteins from yeast, only taking hours, boosting production efficiency significantly. To meet the growing market demands, it is expanding production capacity and the 11,000-ton production line is expected to be put into operation in 2025.Yeast protein boasts significant environmental advantages by effectively lowering dependence on land and water resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon dioxide emissions associated with producing yeast protein are approximately 1/20 of those from animal protein. AngeoPro by Angel Yeast has broadened the application of yeast protein significantly. The products range from protein bars, high-protein cereals and chips to yeast protein powder, cookies and alternative meats."AngeoPro has redefined 'future protein', boasting 80 percent higher protein content and a 96 percent protein utilization rate that surpasses nearly all plant-based proteins. It also provides the nine essential amino acids needed by the human body which account for 47 percent of total amino acids, while in comparison whey protein is 46% essential amino acids, while plant proteins are usually only 35 to 40 percent, making AngeoPro yeast protein a nutritionally advantaged and highly efficient source of high-quality protein," said Zhang Yan, assistant general manager of Angel Yeast and dean of the Angel Yeast Research Institute.Bruce Friedrich, founder and CEO of Good Food Institute, recently spoke at the The Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit in Singapore, where he noted that the Asia-Pacific region's demand for meat is expected to account for 50 percent of the global total by 2050. He compared alt protein development to that of solar and electric vehicles a decade ago, which was not seen as a viable choice of energy transformation at that time but is now mainstream. With the costs of yeast protein coming down dramatically, the global and Asian markets are quickly responding to the trends and promoting the potential technologies.Angel Yeast is taking a lead in global layout. It exhibited the AngeoPro products at Food ingredients Global Europe 2024 held in Frankfurt, Germany, and has introduced the ingredient to a famous vegan protein bar brand in India that further expands application."Looking forward, Angel Yeast will continue to increase our investment in the R&D of yeast proteins, improve production technologies and expand fields of expansion, and contribute to building a sustainable future for all," said Zhang Yan.This post is sourced from: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/boosting-yeast-protein-production-to-meet-the-growing-global-demand-for-alternative-proteins-302354325.htmlMISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. New Initiatives to Harness Demand Flexibility Potential in Singapore

Singapore: These initiatives focus on enhancing the Demand Response (DR) programme and enable Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to participate in the programme. The DR programme plays an important role in the power system by helping to manage and reduce overall system cost. Between 2023 and mid-2024, the DR programme has resulted in over $700 million in savings for electricity buyers in the Singapore Wholesale Electricity Market, such as electricity retailers, through reduced wholesale prices. More details on the DR programme are appended in Annex A.According to a study commissioned by EMA, there is over 400MW of demand flexibility potential that is untapped in Singapore. Commercial sectors, such as those reliant on heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning, show potential for load shifting, while certain industrial processes, like those involving gas production, offer opportunities for rescheduling operations to off-peak times.Through the new initiatives, EMA encourages business consumers to participate in the DR programme and voluntarily reduce their electricity usage in response to wholesale electricity prices during peak demand periods. In return, they receive a share of the savings from the reduction in wholesale electricity prices.Mr. Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA said, "Our new initiatives are a key step in harnessing more demand flexibility. By enabling business consumers more opportunities to play an active role in demand response, we can strengthen the resiliency of power system.Enhancing the Demand Response (DR) programmeEMA launched a two-year DR sandbox in 2023 to encourage participation in the DR programme. The sandbox more than doubled the registered DR capacity from 46MW to 103MW. Businesses supported the enhancements that were introduced under the sandbox. When the sandbox ends in December 2024, EMA will keep these enhancements under the regular DR programme. These include (i) a lowered compliance threshold to recognise the nature of business operations, and (ii) two penalty waivers for non-compliance within the first six months of DR registration to allow participants to gain familiarity. Details are in EMA’s Final Determination Paper.Enabling Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to participate in the DR programmeBusinesses with BESS with nameplate rating below 10MW can apply to EMA by 28 February 2025 to participate in the DR programme. With BESS, businesses can potentially shift their electricity consumption more flexibly from peak to non-peak periods and participate more frequently in DR. EMA has published the Final Determination Paper on the regulatory framework.Regulatory sandbox for EV charging stations to participate in DRBy aggregating charging stations across different locations and/or tapping on resources such as BESS, EV Charging Operators can respond to DR events by adjusting charging speeds. EMA is collaborating with ComfortDelGro via a regulatory sandbox to pilot the participation of the latter’s EV charging stations in the DR programme. This will explore how ComfortDelGro’s network of nearly 1,000 charging stations can adjust charging volumes during DR events, helping to balance demand and supply in the electricity grid. EMA welcomes more collaborations with interested stakeholders on how EVs can serve as flexible assets to enhance our energy resilience.Original post: https://www.siew.gov.sg/resources/press-releases/detail/2024/10/21/new-initiatives-to-harness-demand-flexibility-potential-in-singapore MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. Inaugural NUHS Scientific & Innovation Summit To Showcase Predictive Technology in Medicine

SINGAPORE - Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most lethal cancers, but Mr Ang Chin Chay, 70, was in the dark about his dire condition, until he experienced a bout of fever following a vacation to Vietnam. He quickly sought medical attention for what turned out to be a Hepatitis A infection, transmitted through contaminated food he had consumed overseas. It was a fortuitous encounter, as routine tests revealed abnormal liver function results. Mr Ang subsequently underwent scans, which uncovered HCC, a largely asymptomatic cancer in its early stages. This was unexpected as Mr Ang was known to have fatty liver, but not cirrhosis, the most advanced form of liver scarring."Patients with fatty liver – but without cirrhosis – are not routinely recommended to undergo liver cancer screening," Dr Huang explained. "But in reality, we have discovered that nearly 40 percent of HCC cases related to fatty liver occur in the absence of cirrhosis."Mr Ang's prognosis would have been poor if his condition had not been detected early, as patients who are diagnosed at a late stage have an overall five-year survival rate of less than 20 percent.Improving the screening process for patients like Mr Ang through non-invasive tests and advanced imaging is the crux of Dr Huang's work that he will be presenting at the NUHS Scientific & Innovation Summit, on 3 August 2024."We aim to risk stratify people with fatty liver into those who have a high risk of liver cancer and those who do not, and to pre-emptively develop better ways to identify these people early so that they can receive some form of curative treatment," Dr. Huang explained.Personalising care with the digital twinAnother project pushing the frontiers of medicine with digital innovations, is the Digital Twin programme led by Dr Gao Yujia, Assistant Group Chief Technology Officer, National University Health System. The digital twin, which is based on imaging and other data from a patient's own tests, is a virtual 3D anatomical replica of a patient's organs, like the liver. The digital twin will allow clinicians to transform what is usually a static scan image (such as an MRI scan), into a dynamic model that precisely recreates the shape and structural behaviour of the organ it replicates, enabling enhanced pre-surgery planning and more accurate intra-operative navigation.Together with Holomedicine, which is a mixed reality (MR) based technology, this represents a significant leap forward in the surgeons' ability to predict how organs will behave during a surgery, and predict how internal structures will move and change as the surgery is being performed."Holomedicine leverages mixed reality to interact with virtual objects superimposed onto the real world, allowing for unparalleled accuracy in pre-surgical planning," explained Dr Gao, who will be presenting his work in mixed reality technology at the NUHS Scientific & Innovation Summit. With this near-pinpoint precision, surgeons can minimise the risk of injuring other structures, thereby reducing potential complications and operating time, ultimately improving the patient's overall recovery outcomes.Tackling diseases with precisionDr Anand Jeyasekharan, a senior consultant at the Department of Haematology-Oncology in the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS), likens the human body's reaction to cancer cells, to an intense battle between two warring armies. It was a battle that became personal in 2023 for Mr Soegianto Nagaria, Dr Jeyasekharan's patient. He had a large tumour in his liver excised by surgeons in Taiwan. Initially thought to be liver cancer, the reports indicated it to be a Stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma instead. The situation worsened when the doctors discovered the presence of a second lymphoma in his bone marrow.Diagnosing and treating two concurrent cancers presented significant challenges, requiring precise and coordinated medical intervention. It was important to know if the two cancers were related, as the treatment would be very different if they were.Upon recommendations by his cousins, who are doctors, Mr Nagaria decided to continue the rest of his treatment at NCIS, under Dr Jeyasekharan's care.Mr Nagaria flew to Singapore in September 2023, and underwent a molecular profiling under an NUHS programme for precision oncology (IMAC - integrated molecular analysis of cancer) to get his tumour sequenced. Following the sequencing, the NCIS team discovered that the two lymphomas were not related and drew up the vital treatment plans, providing life-saving ammunition in the cancer battle.Mr Nagaria completed multiple rounds of chemotherapy over six months, and is now on close monitoring while in remission.Besides sequencing, which Mr Nagaria underwent, Dr Jeyasekharan is developing a new tool in his arsenal of weapons against deadly cancers – spatial phenotyping, where advanced imaging equipment is used to analyse cancer with high molecular detail.Spatial phenotyping represents the next frontier of cancer research, and is especially useful for solid tumours. "We are trying to draw [battle] maps of cancer at a high resolution and in great detail, in order to understand how to fight it," Dr Jeyasekharan explained. "Spatial phentoyping's ability to dive deep into molecular detail allows us to be more precise in diagnostics, treatment and care."With cancer being a leading cause of death globally, spatial phenotyping can mean a world of difference for patients afflicted with cancer. "We are never happy with just delivering standard treatment, because standard treatment simply isn't good enough," Dr Jeyasekharan said. "Some people get cured, some people don't – we are trying to understand what we can do to improve the chances of curing more people."For A/Prof Su Xinyi, who is a senior consultant with the Department of Ophthalmology at NUH, precision medicine may be the key to restoring the vision of patients suffering from currently untreatable and blinding retinal diseases. "Every patient with retinal disease has a unique gene mutation, so the treatment that we provide is tailored specifically to the mutations that they have," A/Prof Su explained.Besides gene therapy, A/Prof Su also explores innovations in cell therapy, which are last options for patients with end-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – the third leading cause of blindness globally. In AMD, retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells in the retina degenerate with age. By growing these cells in a petri dish, and then injecting them into the eye, they can replace lost cells and help patients regain vision. While this method of treatment is not new, what makes it unique is the source of cells A/Prof Su uses in its development – cells derived from the umbilical cord. By doing so, this greatly reduces the chance of rejection or the need to use immunosuppressants.Predicting risk factors, a step aheadPredictive care affords patients and clinicians the precious gift of time, in preventing the onset, or minimising the severity, of diseases. For Dr Jocelyn Chew, who is an assistant professor at the NUS Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (NUS Medicine), adopting a predictive approach to tackling a person's dietary triggers can curb overeating and obesity.Dr Chew has been working on an app called the Eating Trigger-Response Inhibition Program (eTRIP), which is designed to help patients identify moments where they are prone to overeating. These include emotional eating, or even ingrained habits such as over-ordering during family gatherings.eTRIP will be used in tandem with Adipoview, an AI-based dashboard that Dr Chew has created with the team from the NUHS Group Chief Technology Office. Adipoview will gather patient data throughout NUHS to generate insights, such as the diagnosis rate of obesity and treatment rate, to proactively predict who may need further support. At the summit of innovationMore than 60 clinician-scientists will be presenting their work at the NUHS Scientific & Innovation Summit, which will be graced by guest-of-honour Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, Permanent Secretary for National Research and Development as well as for Public Sector Science and Technology Policy and Plans Office, Prime Minister's Office.Themed "Tomorrow's Health Today – Predictive, Precise and Personalised", the summit will bring together over 500 international and local healthcare experts, opinion leaders and scientists to shape the future of healthcare.Over the past decade, the NUHS academic health system has secured more than $1 billion in competitive grants (cumulative from FY2011 to FY2021). These funds have fuelled scientific innovations in predictive, precise and personalised care, ensuring improved health outcomes for patients now and in the future. This post a press release obtained through PR Newswire : https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/inaugural-nuhs-scientific--innovation-summit-champions-predictive-precise-and-personalised-care-302213837.html MISME Assist Asia is a reader-supported publication. The event brings together everything SDG-related, showcasing award-winning innovations; participants and visitors can benefit from the curated 5-day programme of knowledge-sharing sessions, technical presentations, dialogue, and forum. The sessions cover a collection of technological trends and innovations targeting specific industries or applications for organisations.Innovation MarketplaceMTE's platform for bringing new solutions to market. Hundreds of well-managed incumbent companies have lost market leadership to new innovations. Many businesses have used the Innovation Marketplace to begin their search for and meeting unmet needs. Therefore, it is important for business owners, company innovators and marketers to get a sense of how the tectonic plates of the innovation landscape are shifting in order to anticipate the new opportunities for their organisation.Unity, Solidarity and Collective ActionThe MTE 2022: Sustainable Development Goals International Innovation Awards (SDG IIA) encourages unity, solidarity and collective action with the development of local solutions to local challenges. The event garnered 3,803 qualified trade visitors over the 5-day period.
