Mister Mistake

Mister Mistake is the stage name and musical project of experimental musician Walter Miles. When he was 15 and looking for inspiration for a song, he noticed that there were a lot of songs starting with Mr. or Mrs. (songs by Stereophonics, ELO, Simon & Garfunkel, AaRON, Sade...) The first thing that came to his mind was Mr. Mistake and the song was quickly written. Upon realising the person he was speaking to in the song looked a lot like him, he then decided to use that as a stage name.Since then, he has written many songs, some of which he felt were complete enough to release on SoundCloud. Using his guitar and voice, sometimes his ukulele, saxophone and even a kazoo, and with the help of the GarageBand software instruments on his computer or tablet for everything else, he has tried his hand at many genres, explored all kinds of sounds and made many beautiful and creative mistakes for the enjoyment of your ears. So enjoy!

    Uranos is Behind Us Now

This is the third track in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. In his suite titled “The Planets”, Holst depicts the astrological temperaments of the astral bodies with his music. Similarly I wanted to add a mythologic element to my own “suite” with the figure of Uranos, said to represent the whole universe, which I found fitting since the whole world is against Pluto.

    Ambivalent

This is the eighth track in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. The order of release is the order of completion, but some songs take longer than others to complete. This is one of my most recent works based on one of my oldest ideas. I made the introduction years ago and had left it as is for so long until I came upon it again a few months back and decided to include it in the Pluto project. From there on it only took three sittings for the main structure to appear and two more to add the finishing touch. This created complete rhythmic changes due to my growing musical culture through the years. I think it is a good representation of the ambivalence of Pluto and its unique situation as a planet on the fence, as well as my own ambivalence on the debate concerning its status of planet, as I have come to understand the arguments against it despite still being strongly emotionally attached to the idea. *All my works are in Creative Commons. Orion Gate

This is the fifth and longest track in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. In addition to being the longest track on this project, it may be one of the longest pieces of music I have ever created; and yet it is one of the least evolving, with very few melodic elements aside from the Robert Miles tribute at the relative beginning of the track. While I don’t mind it being soporific, I hope it doesn’t bore you too much but rather takes you along for the really slow ride. *All my works are in Creative Commons. No Transmission

This is the ninth and final track in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. This is the end of the musical journey around Pluto. If you found it short please remember that Pluto is only 7446km in radius (that's 4628 miles for imperialists) and if you're surprised to see the ending track released before the ones that come before it, I hope my quoting Tim Burton will grant your forgiveness: “Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Not necessarily in that order.” Please be safe and share the love. *All my works are in Creative Commons. Before use in any way other than personal, please contact me at [email protected]*

    Lunar System

This is the second track in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. The reason why Pluto was downgraded to dwarf planet is because the centre of gravity between it and its moon is between them. This means that instead of Charon gravitating around Pluto like the moon does for the Earth, they are actually both gravitating around a point in between them, and it is that point, and not the astral bodies themselves, which gravitates around the Sun. *All my works are in Creative Commons. Towards the End of the Universe

This is the fourth track and only song in my (mostly) instrumental project Planet Pluto. It was recorded, produced and arranged using only GarageBand for iPad, and titled to spell out ”Plutonian“ in acrostic. At first this album was meant to be entirely instrumental with only synths and electronic drums, but then this track came along and it had this Moby-like vibe and the lyrics came on their own. This is one of those songs where I'm not entirely sure what the lyrics mean myself but I just roll with it because what came to me is beautiful and I can say that humbly because it doesn't belong to me. *All my works are in Creative Commons. Summerhill

I wrote this piece at school while I was working as an English teacher for primary school children, I brought the ukulele to teach them a song at first and then when I learned about other systems of education I tried letting the children do whatever they wanted and slip in some English here and there instead of imposing something rigid onto them. The class dynamic changed completely and I came up with the theme in this new, happier atmosphere which is why I chose this title in reference to the first democratic school ever (as far as I know). Also, the music sounds very summery so I thought it was fitting. *All my works are in Creative Commons. Before use in any way other than personal, please contact me at [email protected] I didn't put these tracks available for download because I plan on creating a Bandcamp account shortly and sell the album there (at a minimum price of 0.00 of any currency, don't worry :P)* **Artwork by my sweetheart Amélie Attache, I find what she did with the concept of the album wonderful and so fitting! I also owe her the Mister Mistake logo/symbol/thingy with the stick figure person in the black reverse cloud, that's trademark now**

    Honeybees and Butterflies

That was a fun little experiment! I originally wrote this piece for a shadow play, get this: in colour! A friend of mine recycled plastic bottles and lightbulbs and painted them with glass paint to create a story with DIY animals, and she asked me what I could do for the music. I decided to use the kazoo for the bees and it worked so well! During the show everybody loved it and laughed when the sound got weird, in fact even I found it hard not to burst out laughing as I recorded the whistles onto that! *All my works are in Creative Commons. Sax Dream

O the beautiful mistakes! The first chord should have been a G but I put my fingers one fret too high and it still sounded good with the open G string so I kept it open with all the chords half a tone too high to give this dreamy sound. Only later did I realise it lacked something so I pulled out my sax to fill in the whole...thing. I'm so glad of what I was able to spurt out of my instrument when it's been so long since I last played with it! *All my works are in Creative Commons. The Bogeyman's Lullaby

A friend of mine needed a song to fall asleep to. I started writing her one and didn't know until the chorus came whose story I was telling.
