The Creation of the Gods | Ancient Greek Myths for Kids | Chaos, Gaia, Erebus, Nyx — A Bedtime Story

Episode 1 — The Creation of the Gods: Chaos, Gaia, Erebus, Nyx. Before the World Had a NameAncient Greek Myths for Kids | A Bedtime Sleep StoryIn this very first episode, we travel all the way back to the beginning of everything. Before the mountains. Before the sea. Before the sun rose for the very first time. This is the story of how the world began, told gently and slowly, just the way bedtime stories should be.What happens in this episode? We begin in Chaos — the great emptiness before anything existed. Not darkness, not silence. Simply nothing at all. And then, very slowly, the first things begin to arrive.Gaia, the earth, appears out of the nothing, solid and steady and patient. Tartarus settles deep beneath her, the anchor at the very bottom of everything. Eros arrives as a gentle invisible pull, the quiet force that connects all things. Then come Erebus, the deep darkness, and Nyx, the night — one of the oldest and most respected figures in all of Greek mythology. Even the most powerful gods, the ancient Greeks said, were careful around Nyx. She spreads her dark cloak across the sky each evening and hangs her stars in place, just as she has done since the very beginning of the world. From Erebus and Nyx, the first light is born. Aether rises into the high clear air above the clouds. And Hemera, the day, steps forward each morning to fill the world with warmth and brightness before stepping gently back each evening to let her mother return. Then Gaia, finally ready, begins to shape herself. Mountains rise slowly from the flat earth. The sea pours into the low places between them, breathing gently, reflecting Nyx's stars in its still surface for the very first time. The world has its shape. And it is ready for what comes next.Characters in this episode:Chaos — the emptiness before anything existedGaia — the earth, the first solid thingTartarus — the deep place beneath everythingEros — the force that connects all thingsErebus — the deep darknessNyx — the night, ancient and deeply respectedAether — the bright clear air of the high heavensHemera — the day, daughter of NyxPontus — the first seaAbout this show: Bedtime Myths, History and Legends for Kids retells the world's greatest ancient stories in a slow, calm, sleep-friendly voice.
