Names and Identity, does it really matter?

When reading articles, I found that people consider having English names to be related to their social identity, and help them blend in when entering a new US environment. However, when I interviewed my Chinese international friends, I found they had different ideas. Getting an English name or using your legal Chinese name? Do whatever you want, because at the end of the day, you always know who you are and where you're from.
