Angela Stone - All Things Community at Maine Needs ❤️
Angela Stone is the Founder and Executive Director of Maine Needs, a community fueled donation center based out of Portland, Maine and serving all 16 counties. Her background and previous career in Chicago was interior design. During the summer of 2018 and a move back to Maine, those who were being separated at the border for seeking legal asylum sparked something in Angela and led her to completely pivot from the design world, into a journey of supporting other mothers and their children, and helping the greater Maine community. In this episode you’ll hear the full story, but Maine Needs started out of Angela’s garage after she began a Facebook group in 2019 looking for donations to help local asylum seekers. Now, Maine needs partners with over 125 organizations and welcomes over 3,000 volunteers a year to meet the basic material needs of over 36,000 people. This still includes immigrant families but also local Maine families, unhoused neighbors, people leaving incarceration and those seeking refuge from domestic violence. Angela shares a few stories from the early days of Maine needs, how she built up the organization, and where her motivation comes from. They recently moved into a new and larger space to better serve the community, and how much of a collaborative it truly is. I hope this episode inspires you to get out and help your own community and know that any contribution to those in need, big or small, is always beneficial.Follow and Support Below! https://www.maineneeds.org/https://www.instagram.com/maineneeds/https://www.facebook.com/MaineNeeds/...Huge thank you to our season sponsor Wing and a Prayer Farm! Please follow and support them here and use code TELLTALKS2 for 10% off your first purchase at their online shop! https://www.wingandaprayerfarm.com/https://www.instagram.com/wingandaprayerfarm/https://www.patreon.com/join/wingandaprayerfarm..Find out more about Tell Northeast at https://tellnortheast.com/ and follow us at https://instagram.com/tellnortheast Graphic and site design by Ashley Herrin https://www.ashleyherrin.com/ Music by ArtMusic https://open.spotify.com/track/7AVgxV0wtk2wnOQH3FTt2j

If you live on the seacoast of New Hampshire, you may have heard of Vernon Family Farm. They are a farm I have worked with and shopped at for several years. Together we talk about their journey into farming, touch upon the challenges of farming in New Hampshire, how to support your local farms, and what it has taken to get to the point they are at now. Welcome to a special podcast interview! As you may have heard on previous episodes, Wing and a Prayer Farm is our season sponsor, and I was excited to interview my friend Tammy White who is the owner and farmer. Tammy and I first met when I photographed and wrote about her farm for our Tell New England Issue themed: Mornings, Where I spent a morning documenting farm life and chores, and was even lucky enough to witness a few lambs being born. It was magical and since then I have worked with Tammy on a few other projects and always enjoy a visit to the farm and following along online. Wing & A Prayer Farm is a Fiber Farm in Shafsbury, Vermont that specializes in Breed Specific Fiber from Beloved Flocks. This small farm has been making a big difference over the past 25 years, promoting sustainable fiber and regenerative agriculture while producing natural and naturally dyed wool, farm made tallow soaps and salves, and hosting farm + fiber-centric events and festivals to educate and entertain visitors from all over the world.Together we talk about how Tammy ended up with a cast of characters on her little farm, some adventures in sheep breeding, and what she is up to now. On this episode we chat with Kelsy Stromski, founder and creative director of Favor The Brave Co. out of Newbury, MA. In 2014, she traded the 9-to-5 for a life of fearless creativity — founding her own design studio and never looking back. Since then, she’s lived on an island, received a tattoo from a monk, jumped off a cliff in Moab, sailed through the Philippines, skied by glaciers in the French Alps, galloped across Morocco on horseback, had a beautiful baby boy and pressed pause on business every winter to immerse herself in a new corner of the world. Together we talk about how she grew up, where her business got it's start, what challenges she has faced running a design company and two creative studios, and how she decided that working 24/7 into burnout was not the path she wanted and what that restructure looks like. This interview was recorded while she was spending time in Morocco with her family as she enjoyed a break to refresh and get inspired by a place away from home and work.
