Now That's What I Call Nostalgia

Join Esther, Aoife and Neil as they mock, ridicule and (occasionally) praise the classic nostalgic TV shows of their long-long-ago youth. Seriously, why does everything hurt now?

  1. 14

    Episode 14: Round The Twist

After a ridiculously long medically-induced hiatus, the NTWICN team are back, restored to health and tackling Round The Twist, one of the weirdest things to ever come out of Australia. Pervy ghosts, golden showers and creepy Santa Clauses await. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Running Through The Forest' by Doug Maxwell/Media Right Productions. Say hi to us at [email protected] or at @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram!

  2. 13

    Episode 13: ReBoot

We're back! We dodged angry seagulls, suffocating heat, and flying purple GameCubes to bring you our discussion of ReBoot, a show that dared to ask, 'What if we made a CGI TV show even though the tech is absolutely not ready because it's 1994?' Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Street Thumpin' by John Bartmann. Say hi to us at [email protected] or at @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram!

  3. 12

Episode 12: The Legend of Prince Valiant

We promised it, and here it is! We're finally discussing The Legend of Prince Valiant. Modesty fish, chastity dinosaurs, security hawks, a strictly rationed quota of magic, and men with bare, muscular legs: this show had it all. Except maybe good animation. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Claim of Thrones' by RKVC. Say hi to us at [email protected] or at @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram!

  4. 11

    Episode 11: Johnson And Friends

Listen, we know we promised you Prince Valiant, but due to a scheduling issue we ended up watching Australian import Johnson And Friends instead, which is extremly apt because it was always one of those shows you watched when the thing you actually wanted to watch was unavailable. We try desperately to find something positive to say about it, while Aoife has a minor breakdown caused by the Wiggles, or maybe it's not the Wiggles, she's not sure. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. No incidental music this episode because Esther couldn't face looking for stock music that had the same vibe as the Johnson theme tune.

  5. 10

    Episode 10: Once Upon a Time… Life

Today we revisit beloved French edutainment classic Once Upon a Time… Life, a show which taught us all we know about the human body before taking an unexpected pivot into... space eugenics? We're kidding about it teaching us all we know about the human body (some of us went on to read The Usborne Book of the Body, we'll have you know), but we are ABSOLUTELY not kidding about the space eugenics. It is WILD. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley.

  6. 9

Episode 9: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Today we take on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a cultural behemoth that dared to ask the question, "What if instead of going to the bother of making a TV show, we just stitched together a bunch of clips from a random Japanese series and five minutes of some greasy teens doing gymnastics in a park?" We also do a lot of yelling about palaeontology and glutes. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Claim of Thrones' by RKVC. 7. 8

    Episode 8: The Trap Door

Today we revisit The Trap Door, a British classic that took on the world with little more than a delightful theme song, an incredibly small production team, and an industrial quantity of plasticine. We also talked about cereal a lot. Like... a LOT. Like the show? Tell your friends! Rate and review! Say hi to us at [email protected] or @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram! Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley on the Free Music Archive. Incidental music this episode was 'Halloween Theremin Fun' by Greg Kirkelie on the Free Music Archive.

  8. 7

    Episode 7: Degrassi Junior High

Today we're heading to Canada courtesy of Degrassi Junior High, where we learn about lesbians, teen pregnancy, and brutal divine retribution for sassing your parents. We're also made wildly uncomfortable by the endless bathroom scenes. SO MANY BATHROOM SCENES.   Like the show? Tell your friends! Rate and review! Say hi to us at [email protected] or @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram! Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Shimmer' by Mr. Smith on the Free Music Archive.

  9. 6

    Episode 6: St Patrickalooza

Today we are celebrating our country's rich cultural heritage the best way we know how: by watching an assortment of '90s cartoons that had Ireland-centric episodes, and then ranking them by how angry they made us! And yes, OBVIOUSLY we included Captain Planet saving Belfast. Like the show? Tell your friends! Rate and review! Say hi to us at [email protected] or @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram! Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley.

  10. 5

Episode 5: Thomas the Tank Engine

In this episode, things get real political: we talk police corruption, labour relations, workplace bullying, safety legislation, nationalisation of public services, and elaborate psychological torture. That's right, it's Thomas The Tank Engine! Like the show? Tell your friends! Rate and review! Say hi to us at [email protected] or @ntwicn_podcast on Instagram! Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Espana Rhapsody' by Guy Maiere and Lee Pattison on the Free Music Archive.

  11. 4

    Episode 4: Gargoyles

After centuries of silence, Now That's What I Call Nostalgia breaks free of its stony carapace to review Gargoyles, one of the all-time great Nineties cartoons.  Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Claim of Thrones' by RKVC.

  12. 3

    Episode 3: The Bots Master

As vengeance for last week's Speed Racer debacle, Esther made us all watch The Bots Master, a horrible show about horrible people being horrible to robots. The robots are also horrible, but it's not their fault. Also, Esther wants you all to know that she is deeply, deeply sorry. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit)' by Matt Oakley. Incidental music this episode was 'Outta The Blocks' by John Bartmann.

  13. 2

    Episode 2: Speed Racer

In our last episode, Neil chose violence. Specifically the cartoon violence of Speed Racer, one of the great milestones of anime's conquest of the West despite being...ya know. Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit) by Matt Oakley. Incidental music is 'Jazzy Detective' by John Bartmann.

  14. 1

    Episode 1: Ulysses 31

The gang begin their epic odyssey with Ulysses 31, a French/Japanese animated adaptation of the Odyssey. In SPAAAAAAAACE!" Our theme song is 'Around The Corner (and down a bit) by Matt Oakley. Incidental music is 'Claim of Thrones' by RKVC.
