Ep 14 - Supporting Children w/ Disabilities: The Heart & Reality of This Work (ft. Elsie Hargis)
In this episode, we sit down with trauma-informed licensed massage therapist Elsie Hargis (she/they), the therapist behind Body Resonance. Elsie has been practicing massage therapy since 2018, graduating from Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy in 2017, and specializes in trauma-informed deep tissue, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, and chronic pain management. Since 2022, they’ve focused on supporting children with disabilities in Colorado Springs, working with a wide range of diagnoses — from autism and ADHD to cerebral palsy — and have found a passion for serving this community. We dive into what it truly takes to support children through massage therapy, exploring how to stay adaptable, grounded, and informed to provide safe, skillful care for medically complex kids. We also talk about boundaries, mandatory reporting, and the emotional impact of losing clients we’ve been deeply connected to as part of their trusted care team.In addition, we highlight the systemic challenges the disability community faces: years-long waitlists, limited access to services, and families who deserve far more support than the system currently provides.Elsie and Courtney worked side by side at a couple of massage jobs and now share an amazing space on the west side of Colorado Springs. We share some lightly-spilled tea about those work environments and reflect on how rewarding it is to provide massage therapy within the disability community.Show Notes -⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains mention of neglect, abuse, death, and certain medical conditions.A VERY special thank you to our wonderful guest, Elsie! Ep 13 - Massage Table Confessions: Things We Wish More Clients Knew
In this episode, we’re getting real (and a little playful) about the things we wish more clients knew. Like when you try to “help” by lifting your arm — we love the effort, but you can totally relax and let us do the work. We talk about why consistency is key, how one session can’t undo years of tension or trauma, and what collaboration in your healing really looks like. We also get into what we’re actually noticing during your session (hint: it’s not judgment), why crying or falling asleep is completely welcome, and why alcohol and massage don’t mix as well as you might think. Our hope is that this episode puts your mind at ease about the things you might overthink — and if you’re a fellow massage therapist, comment one thing that you wish more of your clients knew!Show Notes -Content note: We briefly mention alcoholism in this episode.✨ Huge thanks to our producer, Dane at Iwata Productions. Ep 9 - The Sacred Side of Bodywork: Holding Space & Knowing Limits (ft. Mallory Everhart)
What happens when spiritual care meets the massage table? In this episode, we sit down with Rev. Mallory Everhart — a politicized spiritual healer, herbalist, and conflict specialist — to explore the sacred and often unseen layers of bodywork. We talk about what “spiritual direction” really means (think: a god therapist who helps you stay connected to peace and purpose), how conservative Christianity differs from embodied spirituality, and what Mallory believes happens to souls after death. For practitioners, Mallory offers wise and practical guidance on how to support clients through difficult experiences without losing yourself in the process. We unpack boundaries, emotional labor, what to do when clients feel like friends, and how to stay present when the work gets heavy.A powerful listen for anyone doing healing work — or anyone curious about the spiritual threads that run through it.Show Notes⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains mention of trauma, death, abuse, client abuseThank you to our guest, Mallory Everhart (she/her) is a politicized spiritual healer, conflict specialist, and community herbalist trained in the Celtic Wisdom Woman tradition. Ep 8 - Shaved Legs Optional: Body Image in the Bodywork Biz
This week, we’re talking about the real stuff that shows up when real bodies meet the massage table: cellulite, back acne, hair thinning, shaved legs (or not), and why we want you to know we’re not secretly judging any of it.We share why it’s our responsibility as bodyworkers to hold a safe, inclusive space — because being in your body isn’t always easy, and receiving touch can feel vulnerable when your body doesn’t feel like a safe place to begin with.We get into body positivity vs. body neutrality, how diet culture shaped the way many of us grew up thinking about our bodies, and why both men and women experience insecurities (even if women are more likely to talk about it). You’ll hear eye-opening stats like 80% of women reporting dissatisfaction with their bodies, and the staggering 10 million young women — compared to 1 million young men — who experience eating disorders. We also share personal stories about wrestling with societal pressures to stay thin, experimenting with diet pills and over-exercising, and what we’ve learned about reconnecting to our bodies in healthier ways through bodywork. And yes, Courtney had a headache while recording this one — see if you can tell by her voice and energy.Show Notes⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains mention of weight loss, diet, trauma, and eating disorders.✨ Huge thanks as well to our producer, Dane at Iwata Productions. Ep 7 - The Other 16%: Being A Male In The Massage Industry (ft. Alex Bosma)
Only about 16% of massage therapists are men — and, as our guest Alex Bosma puts it, many are fighting an uphill battle because of the “bad apples” who’ve damaged the profession’s reputation. In this episode, Alex shares what it’s like navigating those challenges: from earning trust with clients who arrive on edge to opening transparent conversations that help set them at ease.Courtney also shares her own past negative experiences with male therapists, opening a candid but balanced discussion about safety, trust, and the importance of healthy professional boundaries. We also touch on the hesitation some men feel receiving touch from another man and wrap up with an honest conversation about men’s mental health and the value of emotional releases.Show Notes⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains mention of suicide, sexual abuse, sexual trauma, and mental health.✨️ Thank you to our special guest, Alex Bosma, owner of Precision Bodyworks LLC. Gym rat turned massage therapist. "I got into massage therapy after seeing how it benefitted my training, and wanted to help others in the same way. Ep 6 - Hands Off My Partner! When a Partner Opposes Getting Professional Massages
Is getting a professional massage an act of self-care… or a betrayal? In this episode, we dive headfirst into the drama of when partners raise eyebrows (or flat-out say “nope”) at the idea of their significant other being touched by a massage therapist. We’re asking the real questions:– Is this actually about intimacy?– Why do so many men say, “my wife wouldn’t like that” at chair massage events?– Is it a gender thing, or something deeper?– And what does it mean when your partner has a problem with you being a massage therapist? We share stories from our own lives, laugh at how many times we say the word “issue,” and spill a couple wild tales about clients who thought massage = dating application. So what do you think—red flag or no big deal? We want to hear from you! Ep 5 - Your Body Is the Compass: A Somatic Convo (ft. Dr. Tiffany Graham, DC)
Ever wondered why your body sometimes feels like it’s holding secrets? In this episode, we hang out with Dr. Tiffany Graham, chiropractor and somatic explorer, to talk about how “soma” literally means of the body — and why somatics might just be the roadmap back home to yourself. Tiffany shares why nothing in you is broken (just unfinished), how your body is a built-in compass for what deserves your energy, and what happens when we get curious about resistance instead of fighting it.We swap stories about rage rituals, solo practices, and the magic that can unfold in group workshops. Annie opens up about a powerful dream after being the demo body in Tiffany’s workshop, and Courtney reflects on her own (and her son's) somatic-experiencing journeys. Ep 2 - Let’s Check In: Self-Care Without the Sugarcoat
In Let’s Check In: Self-Care Without the Sugarcoat, Courtney and Annie dive into what self-care really means beyond the hashtags and hype. We’re exploring where the concept of self-care originated, how it has been reshaped into modern “wellness,” and what that shift gets right and wrong. We’ll share what we’re currently working on in our own self-care routines, how being massage therapists influences the way we approach it, and the delicate balance of suggesting practices to clients. You’ll also hear why community care is just as essential as self-care and how letting others support you can be the most radical form of wellness.Because spoiler: self-care isn’t always pretty, but it’s always worth talking about.Show Notes:✨ Huge thanks to our producer Dane at Iwata Productions. Ep 1 - This Might Get Weird (and it's only the intro)
Welcome to our very first episode! Consider this your official invite to hang out with us! In true “This Might Get Weird (and it's only the intro)” fashion, we cover a little bit of everything: how we became LMTs (licensed massage therapists), snippets of life away from the massage table, and a few random side adventures along the way. We’re keeping it light, funny, and just a touch unhinged (because why start any other way?). Stick around until the end for a round of Two Truths and a Lie, your chance to see how well you can read us right off the bat.If you’ve ever thought, “Who invited us?” … the answer is: we did. And we’re glad you came.
