On The Table Ep2: Modern slavery legislation...coming soon to NZ

In Episode 2 of On The Table we talk law and explore the journey of legislation around the world and in Aotearoa New Zealand. We are joined by Rebekah Armstrong, Head of Advocacy and Justice at World Vision NZ who takes us through the evolution of legislation and what we can learn. We also ponder what this means for our organisations, and for us as professionals, including several moments of connecting with the human side of this challenge. AND: Since we recorded this podcast, we have exciting news!! Government is proceeding with NZ legislation….more details below. RESOURCES MENTIONED: NZ GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION - Through until 2022, the NZ Government consulted on proposed legislation, which we refer to in this podcast. It received emphatic support. More details are here: https://www.mbie.govt.nz/have-your-say/modern-slavery/ NZ LEGISLATION - The latest on Modern Slavery and Work Exploitation work by the NZ Government can be found here  https://www.mbie.govt.nz/business-and-employment/employment-and-skills/plan-of-action-against-forced-labour-people-trafficking-and-slavery/modern-slavery/#:~:text=The%20Minister%20for%20Workplace%20Relations,through%20a%20new%20public%20register  THE PRESS RELEASE OUTLINING WORK ON LEGISLATION - https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/govt-prescribes-daylight-disinfectant-modern-slavery NOTE: There have been a lot of different perspectives shared on the proposed legislation, supportive of action finally occurring and critical of the absence of aspects that were consulted on. That is probably a fair summary of sentiment!
