PART 2 | Why No One Will Ever Dominate Like Jay Sigel

PART 2John Riley and Jay Sigel teamed up to write the Jay's incredible golf memoir, bringing readers along on Jay's climb back—through the pressure, the pain, the heartbreaks, and the triumphs. His remarkable amateur career was built in the margins of a full life. For nearly half of every year, he put his clubs away to focus on the insurance business he built and the family he cherished. His victories were not the product of unlimited practice, but of extraordinary discipline, competitive fire, and an uncommon ability to rise to the moment.Sigel’s journey also mirrors the transformation of amateur golf in the latter half of the 20th century, as the era of lifelong amateurs gave way to college stars preparing for the PGA Tour. Others would win national or regional titles after him, but no one dominated with his consistency or longevity. As Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley observed, “We will never see his like again.”Join us for a captivating discussion on golf history, featuring experiences from golfer John Riley and insights from the Jay Sigel autobiography. This episode of "Partee Time, My Golf Story with Kevin Walsh" also touches on golf news and the connection to Beanie Sigel. Is Tiger Woods Living the Oedipus Rex Tragedy in Real Time?

Step back into the arena with Kevin as he reunites with author Gavin Newsham for a gripping follow-up conversation—this time diving into the latest chapter of Tiger Woods’ turbulent journey. In this candid discussion, Kevin and Newsham unpack the circumstances surrounding Tiger’s recent traffic accident and what it reveals about the relentless cycle of rise, fall, and attempted redemption that has defined his career. Is this another turning point… or another echo of history repeating itself? The conversation takes a deeper philosophical turn as they compare Tiger’s story to the ancient Greek tragedy of Oedipus Rex—a tale of greatness shadowed by fate, pride, and the inescapable consequences of one’s actions. Like Oedipus, Tiger’s brilliance seems intertwined with a personal destiny that both elevates and undermines him, raising the question: can anyone outrun their own nature?🔹 What really happened in the latest incident🔹 The psychology of greatness and self-destruction🔹 Why Tiger’s story still captivates the world🔹 The haunting parallels between modern sports icons and ancient mythThis is more than a sports conversation—it’s a study of legacy, human frailty, and the thin line between legend and cautionary tale.👉 Watch now and decide for yourself: is Tiger Woods still writing his comeback story… or living out a modern tragedy?👉 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and drop your thoughts in the comments—what do you think greatness really costs?Find out where to purchase PAR TEE Drinks and check out our socials...... https://www.drinkpartee.comhttps://www.instagram/drinkparteehttps://www.facebook.com/DrinkParTeehttps://www.tiktok.com/@drinkparteeTo explore properties in the Sarasota and surrounding areas, go to  Suncoast Dreams https://www.suncoastdreams.com.....or call (941) 220-4000To learn more about Gavin Newsham, please check out the following....https://www.amazon.com/stores/Gavin-Newsham/author/B0034OZAPO?ref=ap_rdr&shoppingPortalEnabled=truehttps://nypost.com/author/gavin-newsham/https://www.simonandschuster.com/authors/Gavin-Newsham/243152312https://groveatlantic.com/author/gavin-newsham/https://www.aevitascreative.com/client/gavin-newshamhttps://www.instagram.com/newshamgavin/Support the show

The Making of Tiger Woods… and the Cost of Greatness

In this episode, Kevin sits down with acclaimed journalist and author Gavin Newsham to explore his powerful new book, Project Tiger: The Birth of Genius and the Price of Greatness. This isn’t just another golf story—it’s a deep dive into the making of a legend. Meet the Greatest Hero of the OG LPGA

History, the axiom dictates, is written by the winners. But sometimes even those that triumph on the greatest stages don’t get enough ink in the dusty pages of time. One of those is Hollis Stacy, a six-time USGA champion and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Quite simply, over the last 50 years, Stacy has been one of the most accomplished players in the game, a legacy she continues to enhance at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open.On Friday, Stacy shot 78 on the South Course at NCR Country Club to make the cut with 11-over-par 157, the fourth consecutive time in four tries she’s survived to the weekend at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open. When Stacy finishes her round one of the first questions she asks is how her sister, Martha Leach, did. Leach, the 2009 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion, has twice been low amateur in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open – and Stacy is as proud of that as she is of her own accomplishments, maybe more so.That’s the sort of selfless humility that has helped Stacy fly under the radar when the conversation turns to the greatest golfers of her generation. Yet, she is the only player to win the U.S. Girls’ Junior in three consecutive years, a feat she began in 1969. And with victories in the U.S. Women’s Open in 1977, ’78 and ’84, she trails only the four by Mickey Wright and Betsy Rawls for the most ever. After attending Rollins College and representing the United States on the 1972 Curtis Cup team, Stacy turned professional, leading to a career in which she won 18 times on the LPGA Tour – top-30 on the all-time victories list. She turned pro in 1974, won her first LPGA event in 1977 and last in 1991. Still, it is those six USGA titles that define Stacy’s greatness. On the all-time USGA victory list, she trails only Bob Jones and Tiger Woods with nine, JoAnne Carner and Jack Nicklaus with eight, Anne Quast Sander, Carol Semple Thompson and Ellen Port with seven.“I just love the fact that I go to my locker and see seven symbols there,” Stacy says about the acknowledgments of her six USGA titles and Curtis Cup team membership. “The USGA gets it right. They have real championships. They have hard golf and we just love it. We wouldn’t play golf if it was easy.”Stacy has always played her best under the most demanding of conditions, winning those three U.S. Girls’ Juniors at match play; winning the U.S. Women’s Open in back-to-back years on her way to winning three in all. And now she’s made the cut in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open all four times she’s played it. That’s the stuff of history. In this episode, Kevin and Hollis Stacy discuss her journey to becoming a Hall of Fame LPGA player. They commune on their common golf experiences and elaborate how much fun it is getting older. This episode has so many great morsels of "golfogy". Living Inside the Ropes on the PGA Tour

You are cordially invited to join Michael Bamberger on a year-long golfing adventure—playing alongside the pros of the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, LIV Golf, and more—as he seeks to unlock golf’s most stubborn secrets in various and surprising ways, all in the name of…improvement!Nearly fifty years after taking up the game, Michael Bamberger made a pair of startling discoveries: golf had never meant more to him, and he knew almost nothing about it. He decided to cover himself in green in a whole new way. He spent a year inside the ropes of professional golf—playing, caddying, competing, volunteering, and interviewing—looking for a door into the sport’s sanctum sanctorum. In The Playing Lesson: A Duffer’s Year Among the Pros, Bamberger goes on the ultimate golfing bender. You’ll mooch off the lessons Bamberger takes from instructors, famous and obscure, who teach golf in novel ways. You’ll learn how to buy a better golf game.Maybe you’ve had club fittings, but not like the one Bamberger experiences in various tour trailers. In a pro-am, Bamberger gets driving tips from one of the tour’s longest hitters, Jake Knapp. He receives a putting lesson from Brad Faxon. He learns how to hit hook wedges from Gary Player. He lives through the intense pain of Rory McIlroy’s misses and rejoices at Lydia Ko’s triumphs. He plays Pebble Beach and Royal Oak, a down-home nine-hole public course in Detroit with perfect greens. He receives an unexpected hug from Greg Norman at a LIV Golf event in Miami, along with the words, “Come on in here, you asshole.” He spends a lot of time at driving ranges, some of it productive. What Bamberger has done here, when you get right down to it, is create his own tour. Caleb VanArragon Returns to Describe His First Season on the Korn Ferry Tour

For Caleb VanArragon ’23, ’24 M.S., the statistical way of thinking has always resonated in the most logical sense. “I love the way it can be used to solve all sorts of real-world problems,” he explains. It’s a personal truth that stuck with him throughout his Valparaiso University experience. As an undergraduate student, he combined his interests with a double-major in biology and statistics, then narrowed down his professional interests in pursuit of a master of science in analytics and modeling.“Valpo has an amazing statistics program. I would absolutely recommend that students study math and statistics here,” Caleb shares. “The professors are amazing; I’ve learned so much from them, and I’ve learned a lot of skills that I’ve been able to apply to all sorts of things outside just my classes.”Statistics has even played a role in Caleb’s position on the Valpo men’s golf team. “Every season, our coach has us record all of our data from our tournaments. I’ve been able to use that data and some of the skills that I’ve learned here from the statistics department to improve my golf game,” Caleb says. “Last year, I looked at my correlations and I figured out that the number of fairways I hit per round did not influence my score at all. Everything you do – every shot that you hit – can be turned into statistics, and you can use it to figure out which shots are important and how you’re playing in every aspect of your game.” Just looking at the statistics helped Caleb figure out what he needed to practice and what he didn’t – a testament that statistics is a tool that can be applied to anything and everything.Since graduation, Caleb has experienced astounding succeess with his professional golf career.  VanArragon, a two-time NCAA Regional Qualifier and two-time Academic All-American while at Valpo, turned in a 66 (-4) in the fourth and final round on Sunday, finishing the final stage of Q-School with a 72-hole score of 282 (+2), tied for 36th in an extremely competitive field. He turned in a round-by-round line of 77-70-69-66, improving his score with each passing round. Since Caleb's last visit he's played a full season on the Korn Ferry Tour with some success. He and Kevin discuss life on the tour as well as his hopes and aspirations. Dave Frantz - The Coach of Florida's Hottest Golf Team

In Dave Frantz's own words...My name is Dave Frantz, and I am a full-time Teaching Professional at Heritage Harbour Golf Club in Bradenton. I am a current High School Golf Coach and a member of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and was voted "Coach of the Year" three times. I have four decades of golf teaching and coaching experience and I guarantee I can help you reach your goals!I have been teaching golf classes, giving clinics and running camps for over 30 years. What sets me apart is that I am a teacher in every sense of the word! Most pros have spent more time in the pro shop than they have with their students. As a (retired) professional educator, (retired) golf coach, AND a teaching professional, I can help you see, feel, and think your way to better golf - and have fun while doing it! I am hands-on, fun, and energetic. I use the Hudl Technique video analysis, Mevo Flightscope, a wide variety of training and instruction aids, and an experienced eye to identify problems and prescribe solutions.I really enjoy talking to my students about their games, devising a plan that is convenient, affordable, and achievable- and having fun while "working" that plan. If it isn't fun, then I'm not doing my job! Helping a player see, feel, and execute shots they have not been able to consistently produce fuels my enthusiasm. That's something I've loved since my high school (playing) days!In this episode, Kevin Walsh and Dave Frantz discuss the upcoming season for the Lakewood Ranch Boys Golf Team.  It looks to be a powerhouse year for the boys. Can Looking and Feeling Good Help You Play Better Golf?

Tyler Hosey's origin story started in 2007; he competed in multiple sports at a high level (baseball, golf, and paintball). He played travel baseball, competed as a scratch golfer, and played tournament-level paintball. But he was undersized and outmatched (100lbs soaking wet at a staggering 5ft 2inches).His father introduced him to the gym to help him build muscle and strength. He quickly fell in love with being in the gym and training hard! He spent most of high school trying different programs he found online! Unsurprisingly, he was gaining muscle and getting stronger; unfortunately, this came at the expense of chronic injuries. He was ego-lifting and didn’t know any better. But his body started aching, and he felt tired all the time. He then injured his back and shoulder (herniated disc and labrum tear). He didn’t know it then, but he was overtraining, not focusing on form, and learning the “hard way.”He spent the next nine years learning how to “fix” his body. He went on and pursued his education as a Fitness Professional, earning (2) degrees in Exercise Science from the University of South Florida (M.S., B.S.), (2) Division one strength and conditioning experiences, and passing TPI’s Level 1 and 2 Golf Fitness Specialist certifications. He founded TSE FIT in 2019 to help golfers lose weight, gain mobility/strength, and play pain-free!In this episode, Kevin and Tyler's road to becoming a fitness professional.  Tyler shows us how to play better golf but in a very specific way. Rob "Hardy" Poole - He's one of the Great Guys in the World of Golf

American broadcaster and host Rob “Hardy” Poole has been entertaining radio audiences in Boston for 25 years. Since 2009, he’s been the host of 98.5 The Sports Hub, the flagship station for several of New England’s major sports teams. Since 2016, he’s also been the host of Sirius XM’s 90’s alternative rock and grunge show, Lithium. He’s also worked as an on-field announcer for local lacrosse team the Boston Cannons and as a pre and post-game host for NFL side the Boston Patriots and MLS side the New England Revolution.Despite his long career in such a variety of very public roles, Poole likes to stay something of an enigma, preferring to let the music and the sports do the talking. He has however revealed, somewhat cryptically that his “Hardy” nickname was derived from John Fogerty’s 1990s hit “Hot Rod Heart”. He studied Journalism at Michigan State University, graduating in 1993 and moving into the world of radio, at one point working as a DJ on a Los Angeles rock station. In 1998, he moved to Boston and began working as a DJ for WBCN, a role he kept for over a decade until its owner CBS rebranded the station as a talk sports station called 98.5 The Hub. Poole was one of the DJs who made the transition — despite having previously only having to talk between songs for maybe a few minutes every hour — and has thrived ever since, becoming the go-to voice for sports fans across Boston and the greater New England area.Join Kevin and Rob "Hardy" Poole as they share some great golf stories and their common commitment to bringing golf to to the world. Marc Dull's Golf Story is One of the Best Ever!!!

In the short 10-year history of the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship – and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball – no solo side had managed to advance into match play. And certainly no solo side had ever won a match.Marc Dull changed that narrative Tuesday at Plainfield Country Club. Amazingly, the 39-year-old from Lakeland, Fla., wound up making history in the Round of 16 with a remarkable victory and then nearly pulling off another in the quarterfinals.Because his longtime partner, Chip Brooke, had to fly back to Florida Monday night to attend his youngest daughter’s high school graduation, the 2015 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up was thrust into the difficult task of playing alone. But Dull was up to the challenge, playing 2-under-par golf in defeating John Ramsey and Chadd Slutzky, 2 and 1, before battling Maryland residents Hunter Powell and Carson Looney all the way to 18 in the afternoon quarters before dropping a heartbreaking 1-down decision.Dull, a Streamsong Resort caddie, delivered one remarkable shot after another in the afternoon quarterfinals, including an eagle 2 on the par-4 10th hole when he holed out from 132 yards with a wedge from a divot in the fairway. On the 16th hole, he drained a 25-foot, left-to-right, downhill birdie putt to tie the match. But on the 313-yard closing hole – the tees were moved up to make No. 18 driveable – Dull found a greenside bunker and took two shots to reach the green. He then missed his 15-footer for par, with Powell sitting 3 feet for birdie.Four-ball Rules don’t prevent someone from playing as a solo side, however, it’s virtually impossible to succeed when a two-person side gets two chances on every hole.In last year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, in San Antonio, Texas, Haeri Lee, played solo in the Round of 32 when her partner, Lisa Copeland, had to step away from the competition to take an Advanced-Placement exam. Lee conceded the match after being 6 down after 10 holes.“[Chip was] like, you're going to have to play the second-round match by yourself, do you still want to do it?” said Dull between matches on Tuesday. “I'm like, ‘Yeah, let's do it, why not.’ If we get there, we'll just cross that bridge. My game was getting better as the week went on so I felt confident that I could shoot under par out here on my own ball. I knew it was going to be a strong task, but just trying to make no mistakes. Had Dull won his quarterfinal match, Brooke, a former caddie master at Streamsong who now operates a roofing company, was planning to fly back from Orlando for Wednesday’s semifinals. The two met at Streamsong when Dull started caddieing there in 2013, and five years later, they reached the championship match of this championship at Jupiter Hills Club, in Tequesta, Fla. A year earlier, they reached the semifinals in Pinehurst.“I mean, for him to win his first match, which has never been done by just one golfer in a four-ball match and then for him to come out, repeat it, and not only repeat it, but to play better is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen,” said Powell. ”And we told him when we shook hands on 18 that he was the best golfer that we've ever seen in person.”In this episode, Kevin Walsh and Marc Dull Marc's amazing golf story and their shared experiences caddying at Streamson Resort in Florida. Met Rudy Duran, Tiger Woods' First Golf Instructor

There’s absolutely no way he could have known but Rudy Duran held the future of an entire sport in his hands throughout the early eighties. Now based at Chalk Mountain Golf Course in Atascadero – roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco – Duran was working at Heartwell Golf Course in Long Beach in 1980 when the door to his pro shop opened and in walked Tida Woods with her four-year-old son Tiger.Eighteen months earlier, little Tiger had earned national exposure with an appearance on The Mike Douglas Show. He had wowed fellow guests Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart with his seemingly supernatural talent for golf. Are you kidding me? He’s only two? Etcetera.Soon after, Tida and her husband Earl decided they wanted their little boy to start taking lessons. Earl had shown Tiger the basics using a makeshift net he’d set up in their garage. However, Tiger needed better guidance, professional guidance. The couple settled on Duran after learning of the hugely successful junior golf program he was running out of Heartwell. He had more than 100 kids signed up, each of whom enjoyed free, unlimited access to the par-3 course. It may or may not have helped that, like Earl, he also had a military background. It was during his time in the Air Force, in fact, that Duran learned to play golf.Even so, at four-years-old and barely able to see over the counter, Tiger was a lot younger and smaller than most of the kids he taught. Eight, nine, ten? Sure. But four was almost unheard of.Still, Duran’s interest was piqued. What the hell? he figured. Let’s see what the kid’s made of.What happened next changed the game forever.Discover where to grab PAR TEE Drinks at https://drinkpartee.com/apps/store-locator ...and connect with us on social media at... https://www.instagram.com/drinkpartee/ https://www.instagram.com/parteetimemygolf/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555374627181 https://www.tiktok.com/@drinkparteeFor stunning properties in Sarasota and nearby areas, visit https://www.suncoastdreams.com .....or call (941) 220-4000. Learn more about Rudy, check these out... https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/contributor/rudy-duran/https://x.com/nrg4golfhttps://www.amazon.com/stores/Rudy-Duran/author/B001KHIFNQ?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=truehttps://www.facebook.com/rudy.duran.967Support the show

Caleb VanArragon's Incredible Rise to Making it on the Pro Golf Tour

VanArragon's performance in qualifying school earned him a minimum of eight starts on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2025. He is currently working on his game in Lakewood Ranch, FL and preparing to compete on the tour.Discover where to grab PAR TEE Drinks at https://drinkpartee.com/apps/store-locator ...and connect with us on social media at... https://www.instagram.com/drinkpartee/ https://www.instagram.com/parteetimemygolf/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555374627181 For stunning properties in Sarasota and nearby areas, visit https://www.suncoastdreams.com .....or call (941) 220-4000. Learn more about Caleb, check these out... https://www.pgatour.com/korn-ferry-tour/player/65443/caleb-vanarragonhttps://valpoathletics.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/caleb-vanarragon/6777https://www.instagram.com/calebvanarragon/https://x.com/cvanarragolf?lang=enhttps://rypgolf.com/Support the show
