AJ On Magic & floklore- Breath work and Energetic body
The Energetic BodyThe energetic bodyis just that your energy based body form. In Physics they tell usthat all matter is made of energy. The building blocks of matter isproven to be energy. Frequencies can effect us positively andnegatively. So we have an energetic body. You can add to it by doingvarious exercises and rituals. The most basicexercise is breathing. Sit comfortably some where where you can beundisturbed for about 5 minutes or more. Calmly breath in slowlyuntil your lungs are full. Hold your breath in for a count of 4 thenslowly release. Do this for 5 minutes and see how you feel. This isbox breathing. There are many forms of breath work. Explore them andfind ones that help for different things.Qigong and Yoga areanother way do build the energetic body. The movements and mudrasform a symbolic ritual which builds the energetic body over time. The8 brocades are a way to build and balance the energetic body. Themovements balance the energies of the body and strengthen mind, body, soul connection. This will help build the energies of the body overtime. Certain movements help with visualizing your own energy aswell. I have put some links in the notes to help you find Qigongvideos and breathing techniques to try.The history ofbreath work is a varied one. Pranayama in Yoga dates bake to at least3000 BCE. It’s various techniques help to energize and balance thebody. In Sanskrit it is the combination of two words. Prana whichequates to vital life force and ayama which control or extension. InQigong is part and parcel of the practice combining breath withmovement to achieve balance and heal the body. The indigenous ofTurtle island do sweat lodge and singing with drums. This requiresbreath control for both activities. In Sweat lodge the breath deeplywith the combination of the heat it can produce visions and heal thebody. Drumming and singing requires timing and precise breathing in arhythmic fashion which calls energy and spirit to them allowing forancestors and other spirits to communicate with them. It alsoconnects them to the land and it’s energy in a special way. TheTibetan Buddhist breather works helps with meditation and with allaspects of life. Vajra breath helps to cleat obstacles throughcontrolled breath. Phowa Practice is only done at the time near deathto help transfer the consciousness and helps the transition throughreincarnation.Putting this to usein your practice. Breathing techniques like box breathing have veryreal benefits of relieving stress, anxiety, and calming you. Boxbreathing combined with meditation help to calm and bring awarenessto the here and now. Being present and fully aware helps you feelyour energetic body. This is a foundation for magical practice. Starthere and work towards other practices which help build on your mind, body, soul connection. Qigong, and Yoga as a daily practice is greatfor this. Then start working with mudras to help bring symbols andritual to your practice. This is the beginning of hand magic. This is just abrief introduction to breath work and magical practice.References:Breath workhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWLDsF0zdC8Thai chihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LABI20peTHgShifu Yan Xin 8brocadeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtJ3j9cCAyYArya 8 Brocadeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdNBBk47W0U&t=53sMudrahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MudraModernZen. “Zen Meditation. Mushroom Ketchup
Mushroom KetchupMushrooms are asuper food. They add a meaty flavour to dishes and provide a tun ofmacro and micro nutrients. They provide carbs, protein, minerals, fats and fibre. They give you a have a good amount of vitamin D andvitamin C. They are rich in potassium as well. In this case for myrecipe i use Portabella mushrooms which are high in Vitamin B,phosphorus, selenium, copper and potassium. They also havemagical properties which can vary. Most have healing properties whichscience is just not catching up on. Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) isused for divination, and transformation work. Chaga for healing andgrounding. Reishi for spiritual awareness, healing and relaxation.Shiitaki prosperity, nourishment and growth. Lions mane for psychicability, mental clarity and creativity. Turkey tail healing, protection and balance. There is a tun of varieties and each havetheir own properties. The mind alteringeffects of Psilocybin mushrooms are now being shown to heal the braindamage caused by PTSD and can help treat certain cancers. Micro andmacro dosing is being done in laboratory settings allowing for thesafety of patients. In these settings they are finding that they helpthe body to heal better than just conventional techniques bythemselves. With these explorations of medicines which ancient andindigenous peoples have used for thousands of years. We may see achange in many medical fields dealing with brain damage, mentalillness, pain and cancer treatments. Mushrooms are also a huge partof nature with networks which span vast areas of the globe if not thewhole planet. Mycelium networks are fascinating structures which worklike neuron and synapses to forests the world over. They deliverinformation, nutrients and act verymuch like a nervous system. Somevarieties of mushroom can be luminescent showing their light in cavesand deep forest groves. Some networks create zombies of insects andanimals. Fungi is are fascinating beings in our world. The folklore ofmushrooms is as rich and varied as they are. Faerie rings are specialplaces that faeries dance and are considered to be portals to theirrealm. In Slavic areas Fly Agaric are a blessing from Veles the Godof the underworld, earth, waters, and forests. The first mushroomsare gifted to the god as a thank you for the knowledge he gave tothem. In Japan Shiitaki mushrooms are revered for their longevity andhealing properties. Mushrooms are a connecting entity to the othergiving us sight beyond ourselves making them a potent magicalingrdient.Today I ampreparing mushroom Ketchup. It is a rich earthy meat sauce you canuse just like modern day ketchup. This recipe is my own. Theinspiration for this recipe was from Townsend’s mushroom ketchupfrom the 1700s. I will put a link the notes for you to follow him. Heis a great font of information on colonial America. The recipeMushroom Ketchup1 pound ofPortabella mushrooms chopped roughly1/4 onion minced2 cloves garlicminced1/2 tsp nutmeg1 1/2 tsp koshersalt1/4 cup balsamicvinegar.1 1/2 cups waterInstructionsMix all ingredientsin a bowl except the water. Cover with cling wrap and place in yourrefrigerator for 24 hours. The next day place the mixture into youslow cooker for 8 hours with the 1 1/2 cups water. Or boil at a slowroll in a pot for 40 minutes. Let coop strain and boil the liquiddown till it is the thickness you like. It don’t turn thick likemodern ketchup so if you wish it to be that you must add a cornstarchslurry to the water in the last 6 minutes of boiling. Adjust the heatas needed. The strained bits of mushroom and veg can be dried in theoven on 250 for a few ours and then let full dry over night and thenground into a spice topping. This spice can beused in Place of black salt just add incense ash to the spice forspell use when attempting to heal someone or summon a faeries friend. It tastes great and makes a good broth additive for soups and saucesyou want to add a deep earthy and meaty flavour to. This is a tripleuse recipe. When you do researchinto this wonder food look up Dark Matter filaments and myceliumnetworks and compare them. The look at the structure of the neuronsof the brain. You see how so above and so below is truly a thing. Weare interconnected by the structures of nature around us. Pleaseenjoy this recipe, the spice and spell ingredient. AJ on magic and folklore- Geography & spirit of place
Geography and Spirit of place I am starting with Appalachia as I come from and have ancestry of that range. But Appalachia is not just the mid and southern states. The range spans the Atlantic and includes the UK and Greenland, Finland, Morocco and Western Sahara. This gives a lot to explore. Place is as important as the civilizations that inhabit them. To me being animistic all things have spirit whether we create that spirit or if it existed before us. Appalachia is a mountain range which began 1.3 billion years ago as an ocean floor. Rising up through centuries of tectonic action and having many creatures and peoples living in them. The land has spirit and memory. This is archetypal in its essence. Primordial in it nature and alien to human minds. The horned gods are a depiction of our understanding of this spirit. Wodin, Cernunnos, Ammon, Pan, are some names which become masks of this entity. Ancient and powerful. It’s life spans eons. It is as unpredictable and wild as the forests and deserts that span its edges. So knowing the Appalachian mountains is a complex and rich telling.
