ENGLISH DOWN BELOW ⬇️ Hello community, today I want to talk about a dance style that I studied for 1 year and I really liked it, it's called "Locking", and many people have no idea that it exists. Locking is a style of funk and street dance created in California in the 60's by Don Campbell. It was originally danced to funk music, such as that of James Brown, Sly, The Family Stone and similar groups. The name is based on the concept of "Lock" as lock 🔒 which Don Campbell created with his college friends. In the clubs, Don was untouchable, winning dance contests one after another with his unique style. Don's style became even more popular in the early 1970's, when he got more exposure during his appearances as a featured dancer on the popular "Soul Train" TV show and on "Soul Train" sponsored tours in the United States. Do you remember Toni Basil's "HEY MICKEY" cheerleading video clip? Many people loved this famous song and artist. Toni not only sang but danced and was a choreographer. Don Campbell and Toni Basil founded "The Lockers" in 1973 and changed the dance world forever. We are talking about one of the most important groups in history, which at the beginning of their career was called "The Campbell Lockers". These people laid the foundations of what would become the Locking, from the movements to the clothing. It should be noted that without Toni Basil's contribution as manager of The Lockers plus his show business experience and connections, Locking as a dance form might never have reached the commercial level it did. The video I left above is from a Locking assignment I did when I studied this style. I must admit that I don't have the clothes indicated in the video, but I was just starting with this dance. The "lockers" usually wear a hat, striped stockings, suspenders, black and white colors etc. I want to show you a video about professional dancers of this style: <iframe width="640" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OWzEagdAaT0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" webkitallowfullscreen="webkitallowfullscreen" mozallowfullscreen="mozallowfullscreen" frameborder="0" > I hope you liked this cool and fun dance. Thanks for reading!
